Russia continues to mass assets within range of Ukraine - though the official explanations are that they are for various exercises. United States intelligence has noted that Russian operatives in Ukraine could launch 'false flag' operations as a predicate to invasion. The West has pressed for negotiations and on Friday in Geneva, the US Sec. State Blinken will meet with the Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov.

Certainly the Russian movements evidence some plan - but what is it? Some analysts believe that Putin's grand scheme involves securing Western commitments that NATO would never expand beyond its current composition. Whether that means action in Ukraine or merely the movement of pieces on the chess board remains to be seen.

VIENNA — No one expected much progress from this past week’s diplomatic marathon to defuse the security crisis Russia has ignited in Eastern Europe by surrounding Ukraine on three sides with 100,000 troops and then, by the White House’s accounting, sending in saboteurs to create a pretext for invasion.

But as the Biden administration and NATO conduct tabletop simulations about how the next few months could unfold, they are increasingly wary of another set of options for President Vladimir V. Putin, steps that are more far-reaching than simply rolling his troops and armor over Ukraine’s border.

Mr. Putin wants to extend Russia’s sphere of influence to Eastern Europe and secure written commitments that NATO will never again enlarge. If he is frustrated in reaching that goal, some of his aides suggested on the sidelines of the negotiations last week, then he would pursue Russia’s security interests with results that would be felt acutely in Europe and the United States.

There were hints, never quite spelled out, that nuclear weapons could be shifted to places — perhaps not far from the United States coastline — that would reduce warning times after a launch to as little as five minutes, potentially igniting a confrontation with echoes of the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.

Don't you mean that it's insane that Putin thinks Ukraine is worth a possible nuclear war? Is he not the one threatening it?
You mean "Is he not the one that invaded a sovereign nation without cause or seeking ANY UN resolution to preclude the need for an invasion?"!

Your favorite corporate media that has been cheerleaders the war until recently.
Post it then. I haven’t seen any media say that the war is over and Russia already won. You’ve been dodging this for weeks now. Time to put up your source.

I strongly suspect this statement from you is a lie. You posted this weeks ago, several times. You’ve been ducking multiple polite requests for your sources.

    It's a cult...that is all.
The thought that Putin is trying to save his country from Zelinski is so bizarre. How can anyone reason with people like that. So many people are so uninformed. Even if Ukraine was corrupt at one point, Russia is every bit and more corrupt today. Our defense and intelligence community that studies them for a living know the truth, and know Russia is our true enemy. The problem is that Trump’s supporters don’t trust the professionals that know the true danger that Putin presents. They don’t trust educated people.

I've cited reporters that listed Putin among multiple other people that said the US stopped peace talks.
Every reporter you cited was reporting on what Putin and Russia claimed.

The "multiple other people" were also reporting or repeating what Russia and Putin told them.

Russia and Putin are the original sources of everything reported in the sources you cited.

I cited US and NATO officials that said that's why Putin invaded Ukraine
You cited US and NATO officials who said that Russia and Putin blamed US and NATO actions for their invasion of Ukraine.

That again is reporting and repeating of the things that Putin and Russia said, it is not the US and NATO saying "yeah, the things that we did are why the US and NATO invaded Ukraine." What they are saying is "yeah, Russia and Putin keep saying that they invaded Ukraine because of things we did."

I've never said that I trust Putin.
Actions speak louder and more truthfully than words.

You keep posting and believing reports that are relying on what Russia and Putin say. You either trust what Putin and Russia say or you aren't aware that Russia and Putin are the original sources of all the reports that you trust and believe.

It's insane that people think Ukraine is worth a possible nuclear war.
I honestly don't understand your reasoning.

You say you care about people and detest the slaughtering of people.

You rail against war and war mongering, yet you are not at all critical of Russia and Putins actions in Ukraine.

Now you seem to be saying that the Ukrainian people are not worth saving from being slaughtered at the hands of the war mongering of Putin and Russia.

It doesn't reconcile. Your value system, as you have presented it, is full of contradictions and inconsistencies. The one thing that is consistent, is you are critical of everyone except for Putin and Russia.

That's why I have the impression that you are pro-Putin and pro-Russia, because that is the only consistent thing through out all of your posts.

If I missed it, please quote posts in which you were critical of Putin and Russia.
