I will admit, I didn't know anything about these these strings of attacks and the murder of elderly Asian American out west. Really disturbing. In most cases, they have caught sub human scum that have committed these crimes.
In the case of the murder of Ratanapakdee, I sincerely hope the death penalty will be sought, although that is not possible in the state of CA.

    Stick and stones.

Didn't we spend much of the past decade finally realizing that words absolutely can hurt - often tragically so

    Hurt people hurt people

How many school bullies are verbally, emotionally or physically abused at home and they need to take their anger out on someone else?

Then again, some people are just total arses

Yeah, I don't believe words physically hurt anyone. I believe in being polite and respectful to others at all times but to compare the use of a word to physical assault is just dumb.

And how many times have we seen that the school shooters were bullied, outcasts, etc?

    [Mod edit: no personal attacks]

So you are saying mental abuse DOESN'T exist and is not a thing? Anyone claiming it should be ignored? You can't physically hurt someone mentally..

Actually, yeah, you can hurt someone physically by attacking them mentally. Sometimes profoundly. There's a reason there's a clear correlation between good mental health and good physical health and vice versa. Sticks and stones line has always been a pile of trash.

I feel like this board can be a little over the top when it comes to labeling and dog piling conservatives. Not sure how this helps or fits ToS.

My parents taught me “sticks and stones”. It teaches a kid resiliency and to put little weight in the snide comments of others. Should we criminalize speech by 10 year old boys?

I think there's a wide range of responses parents and the school can have between - "mean words are harmless" and "send them to jail"

Sticks and stones. I’m sure you big strong conservatives can handle it.

Sure, but should that kind of talk be allowed here? I say no. Personal attacks aren't allowed here. And I'm seeing some crossing that line here. If it's personal, then better off not saying anything.

Agree. The boys should get some type of school punishment and the school should use this behavior to justify a school-wide discussion on speech.

More labeling and name calling with a dash of sarcasm. Not sure how this fosters a discussion.

The few conservatives here keep this board from being an echo chamber, ie interesting. I just don’t want to see them all driven away.

    I’m not a conservative.

It was actually bait to point out hypocrisy, but the wrong people took the bait.

I don't understand why people just DO NOT understand that freedom of speech DOES NOT mean freedom from consequence. Yes they are 10. treating another 10 year old that way should result in some kind of punishment. who said anything about making it criminal?

Do you feel the same way about veterans with PTSD? They are just a bunch of pussies who are lucky they didn't have a real injury.
