A couple of days ago, one of the main US-MX border points of entry was blocked by 1000's of migrants demanding entry into the country, which caused chaos for those who lawfully cross the border on business, for work, or for delivery of goods, both ways.

Lawful border crossings are getting progressively worse across the border, and drug cartels are finding it easier to move product, as the CBP has to transfer personnel and efforts to the processing of migrants.

It's not different on MX's South border. Yesterday, ~5000 migrants stormed into Chiapas all the way to the INM building (INM is immigration) running over fences, barricades, and elements of the National Guard. They are now taking over an ecological park in Tapachula, Chiapas, which it's going to be severely affected, as it's been the case with just about everywhere migrants squat.

Unfortunately, Juan Trump (that's Donald Trump's pet name for the President of México) was bamboozled by his "friend" Donald into making MX a "lobby" for migrants trying to reach the U.S.

Many people would argue that migrants are "good for the economy", but that is not always the case. Billions of dollars leave the U.S. economy every year, because migrants send money from the U.S. to other countries to support families there. The biggest destinations are India and MX, to the tune of 100 billion dollars in 2023 alone, according to the Bank of México (kind of like the MX version of the Fed). These billions of dollars do not circulate in the U.S. economy.

Speaking of inflation, the past year, the U.S. dollar has lost ~20% of its value against the MX peso. One of the main reasons for it, is the amount of money being sent to MX from the U.S. And MX is the U.S. 2nd largest trading partner.

Gregg Abbott is a lot of things, but I don't blame him for his attempts at curbing the hordes of people demanding entry into the U.S., even the busing of migrants to other States, making some put their money where their mouth is, like the Mayor of NYC, who was so welcoming of migrants, until he he got a taste, then went crying to the federal government for more money, while the shelters were at full capacity; shelters which BTW serve the NYC poor as well.

And please, no one mention a wall. There is a wall. A wall can be climbed; a wall can be dug under.; holes can be punched through walls.

His immigration status really should be questioned. There is a high probability that he overstayed his visa. There are questions about when he graduated from u Penn. And his story about Stanford PhD is highly suspicious. So Penn lists his degree for '97, but his story is he dropped out of the Stanford phd program in '95. How did he get accepted and dropped out wo a degree? He's a total bs artist.

There are a few instances of Trump and MAGA voters being charged with possessing and publishing child pornography, what does that suggest or prove about the majority of people who vote for Trump and MAGA?
He's just doing the xenophobic thing and doesn't have the self-awareness that the standard he applies to one group is different than his own. Rules for thee and such. Typical nonsensical posting from him.

Shocker! RWNJ sheriff spread a lie, and Trump repeated it. And in other news, grass is green…

Immigration is vital to keep our economy robust. Everyone agrees it needs to be done in an orderly fashion and under control. The GOP, obeying Trump’s selfish political interest, has abandoned a very good piece of legislation that would have alleviated a lot of the chaos. The GOP owns this issue now - they are the reason for the chaos.

So you just add millions of workers and the jobs just pop up? Who knew?

I'd like to see the actual data that was used to make that slide. Elon Musk is an immigrant too.

It appears to come from this:

Right now, we need workers. And we especially need workers willing to do jobs that Americans will not do. For almost our entire history as a nation, we have relied on poor people coming here to achieve a better life. It has worked out well. We have the strongest economy in the world. Does it need checks and balances? Of course. But this idea (not saying this is your idea, because I don’t know) that we need to halt immigration is not very helpful.

Immigrants like Musk are less helpful, IMO. The poor people who come here love this country. He’s a blight on it, IMO.

If we aren't doing a good enough job preparing kids who grow up here to fill our skilled jobs, then we need to get better at producing good people.

We shouldn't use immigration to compensate for an inadequate education system, to avoid providing better education to the people already here.

Immigration should fill the unskilled labor market, because the people who grow up here should be overqualified for those jobs. We should use immigration to compensate for a lack of people. They should fill the unskilled labor market, and compensate for lower birthrates and to keep the population from getting to old.

The goal should be to reduce the number of H1B visas, not increase them.

This is perfect. It’s worked well for over a hundred years. It worked for my family - my dad came here with his brother and their mom who was a war widow. She had a brother and sister who sponsored them to come. She worked cleaning houses and taking in laundry and my dad was able to go to college.

Unfortunately, that is what the right reffers to as the great replacement theory.

It used to be called the American Dream. Even as recently as Reagan.

    Gaming the asylum system....
And the GOP doesn’t want to fix it. They stopped the best bill to come along in 30 years because their [Admin edit :nono: the usage of "Orange Jesus" is a partisan trigger] told them to because he wants it to stay messed up until after the election. He doesn’t give 1 shirt about the border. All he cares about is his own hide. He cannot be bothered about anything else.

That bill did nothing to fix the immigration system. It was a ploy to get the Ukraine money passed. Has anyone ever seen Congress work as hard getting a bill passed that benefits the American people as they have for the Ukraine bill to enrich the weapons manufacturers?

You are lying about the immigration bill. Did you even look at it or do you just believe the Trump lies that you read from his stooges? That’s rhetorical, we all know the answer to that.

    The immigration bill would have:

Limited border crossings, ended “catch and release”, tightened up the asylum system, and sped up the asylum hearings which are now way too long. It would have added border agents and immigration judges to speed up hearings. It would also disincentivize people crossing the border between border crossing areas to seek asylum. There’s more but I doubt you care. All you care about is your allegiance to Trump, a rapist, and repeating his talking points.
