Today it begins, Kamala has reached the point that she's the Democratic Party nominee:

There's video from today. this link has video from her first public appearance since Biden endorsed her:

She spent yesterday on the telephone for most of the day. I read that yesterday that she called the party leaders in all 50 states. That would take me three days.

She's renamed her YouTube channel, that's the where to go for video: https://www.youtube.com/@kamalaharris

This is her video on her channel from two hours ago:

To play it, start it, and then move it up to 5:47. This was one of those live videos which don't start at zero.

I've named this thread General Election 2024 Harris vs Trump

Trump needs an introduction post as well, a MAGA suporter ought to write it: @Farb, @SaintForLife , @Others, calling for someone to please introduce your GOP candidate for this 2024 general election thread.

Villa Vie Residences is offering Americans a four-year escape from reality. Following Donald Trump’s victory over Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, the residential cruise line announced a new sailing that will run the length of the convicted felon’s forthcoming term.

Dubbed the “Skip Forward” package, Villa Vie will welcome new residents onboard its Odyssey ship for up to four years. For Americans who promised to leave the country should Trump come out victorious, the cruise line offers that opportunity. Passengers who set sail will visit more than 140 countries across all seven continents.

It won’t be cheap to dodge the real world, though. Single occupancy options start at $255,999, while double occupancy rates begin at $319,998.

A two-year “Midterm Selection” package will allow passengers to sit out of the political landscape until after the 2026 midterms. It’ll be $150,399 for single passengers who opt for that option, and $187,998 for pairs. The line also offers one and three year packages.

The price includes meals, spa facilities, fitness programs, internet access, weekly housekeeping, and more.

The experience, a Villa Vie Residences spokesperson told Business Insider, offers “flexibility to escape traffic jams, politics, and the monotony of city life.”...........

Not gonna lie, that's tempting. Side note- can anyone lone me $320,000 or so?

What we are seeing is the collapse of two somewhat in opposition political economic philosophies in, particularly the West.

The first is the collapse of neoliberalism and the so-called free market and the free trade of globalization. This collapse is moving somewhat in slow motion depending upon where you look. The second is more rapidly moving and that is the collapse of liberalism.

For decades the assumption is that people want democracy because they want freedom. This is false. People want freedom for themselves and those that are in their group. They, most assuredly, do not want freedom for those outside their group. Globalization and neoliberalism in economics run counter to the “freedom for me but not for thee” tribalism. While globalization and neoliberalism do not mean an opposition to such a stance they do mean that non-tribe people can potentially achieve something which tribalism deems should be reserved for the tribe.

Every problem facing the West and, indeed, much of the world must be looked at through the lenses of psychology and sociology. How do groups organize themselves and why do they organize in those ways. Nothing else is as important as this. Charlatans such as Trump, Orban, Putin et al all use the tools of tribal grievance.

No country is exempt from this. We note that Scandinavian countries are having immigration issues. It very well maybe that a large state/population democracy cannot survive without real maturation if it is not a homogeneous population.

Indeed, the United States has never been “United” except for few occasions.

Hey Sam,

Been a while. It’s Joe from RFL. Sorry things didn’t go your way. I remember you thought a lot about Harris.

Elections come around every two years. The country and Democracy will survive.
Hi Joe:

It nice to see you. I thought about you during that hurricane, hoped you were OK.

My hopes were up, but my presidential election prediction method saw this election as one to go to Republicans, it was their turn again. That's my system, I figure out who's turn it is, it worked for all but two of the elections during my lifetime. So, yeah, this will blow over.

I was a little surprised that the method still worked for a convicted criminal.

Good to see you.

We made it thru the hurricane with minimal damage although many of our favorite hangouts got hammered pretty hard. We count ourselves lucky in that regard.

Hope all is well with you.

I was never a Trump man. The criminal convictions were politically motivated IMO and I think that did more harm than good for those folks who were hoping for the other team.

Here is to hoping that the country figures out a way to move on from this.

In what world is sexual assault a politically motivated thing? Trump has a long, well-known history of being a pervert. I just don't get how anyone can rationalize this into something less than it actually was. Weinstien, P Diddy, Epstien, Cosby and powerful men like them got away with so much for so long. Trump as as well.

Hi Dave,

He wasnt convicted of sexual assault. He was sued related to an incident that happened in the 90‘s. Other Presidents have been similarly accused.

The other convictions were ticky tack convictions on questionable charges. Campaign finance reporting errors and reporting “fraud” with no victims. Not treason. Not collusion. Not sedition. It looked political to me.

Looked? Interesting choice of words. That's certainly what Republicans made it "look" like.

So in your book, Trump has no criminal responsibility for inciting the Jan 6th riot, the attempted overthrow of election results with fake electors, or for the top secret documents he took with him after he left the white house?

I see that Russian State TV decided to congratulate Trump on his electoral victory and then air nudes of Melania. As this poster said - letting Trump know who’s in charge. 🤦‍♀️

When you have NY politicans running for office promising to get someone and then they charge him with 4 misdemeanor reporting violations blown into 34 felony counts. Thats “looks” political to me. When you charge someone with business fraud and cant produce a single victim or explain the damages, that looks political.

In my book, if you think he committed treasonor encouraged sedition, then charge those crimes. Those things happened 4 years ago and should have been tried long before now. Waiting so long looked political.

You dont have to agree. It may have looked different to you.

The AG fraud case didn’t seem to sit well with the New York Appeals Court. They were clearly skeptical.

He was sued for slandering and defaming a woman who, according to the jury, was sexually assaulted by Trump- the only president, btw, to ever brag about sexually assaulting multiple women.

I have done several of those kind of deals over the years. Banks do not rely solely or even primarily of an owners valuation of collateral. They all do their own due dilligence especially for that kind of money. There were no fraud victims in this case. That and the fact the AG ran for office promising to get Trump reeks of politics.

Nobody should be using the government as a political weapon. Not democrats. Not Trump. Not republicans. It undermines public confidence in our system of justice.

He wasnt the only President to be so accused. I‘m not saying there is no there there. The alleged incident happened in the 90’s and was never charged. It was one of a number of cases many of which were politically motivated. So to some folks they all looked political. Did Trump use that? Yes. Most certainly. Did it resonate with some voters? Who knows?

Did it distract from Harris‘s message? I think so. It may have been a reason not to vote for Trump but it also wasnt a reason to vote for Harris.

And someone whose defense denying the allegations was basically “she’s not hot enough to sexually assault”
