Today it begins, Kamala has reached the point that she's the Democratic Party nominee:

There's video from today. this link has video from her first public appearance since Biden endorsed her:

She spent yesterday on the telephone for most of the day. I read that yesterday that she called the party leaders in all 50 states. That would take me three days.

She's renamed her YouTube channel, that's the where to go for video: https://www.youtube.com/@kamalaharris

This is her video on her channel from two hours ago:

To play it, start it, and then move it up to 5:47. This was one of those live videos which don't start at zero.

I've named this thread General Election 2024 Harris vs Trump

Trump needs an introduction post as well, a MAGA suporter ought to write it: @Farb, @SaintForLife , @Others, calling for someone to please introduce your GOP candidate for this 2024 general election thread.

I remember these incidents happening all over after 2016

That woman has an infinite reservoir of patience and restraint

And definitely a point about the guy going after a woman and a black guy

Another point of view. I find some merit in this. More than I’d like to admit. It’s from this:

    Interesting.

Jon Stewart touched on this right before the election. He theorized that Fox News and the far right wing media is somewhat responsible for Trump. Mentions how Rush stoked the flames way back in the 90's. Everything about the left was bad. Even center left was bad. Not only bad, but could destroy you. Fox News follows and the narrative does not change. It's non-stop fear, anger, resentment. The boogie man is coming. ***Sidebar - Slow Burn podcast has a series on "The Rise of Fox News". Absolutely worth a listen.***

Trump comes to power and doubles down on the rhetoric. Says things that would ruin anyone else's political career. It's a brain process. During these rants about whatever, constantly stoking fear and anger, chemicals are released in the brain. The viewers keep coming back for more. Recall, nice, feel-good stories don't get ratings.....train wrecks do.
It's the same premise. And you have to keep amping up the outrage, because the chemical release isn't the same unless you ramp up the language. Akin to getting used to alcohol consumption or a drug.....you need more to get the same "high".

While this can't be proven, I totally agree with this thought process. Why else would one promote division? Why is EVERY message is Armageddon? I think fight or flight instincts kick in. It's wired into us all. I still can't believe a majority of Americans chose this path......and I fear the worst is yet to come!

I do wonder if Manchin and Sinema didn’t ck block so much and Biden was able to do more of what he wanted to if that would have made any difference

In 2016, Donald Trump declared: “Nobody has more respect for women than I do. Nobody.”

That was one day after the infamous Access Hollywood tape emerged, revealing him talking about grabbing women.

That followed a string of more than a dozen women accusing him of sexual misconduct.

It didn’t deter voters then. And it didn’t deter them again in 2024.

Trump is now the president-elect after beating Democrat Kamala Harris on Election night. That is despite allegations from what now amounts to more than two dozen accusers and being found liable for sexual abuse in a court. Trump has denied all the accusations against him.

Some of his accusers fear his re-election could lead to fewer survivors coming forward with their own sexual misconduct allegations, seeing as Trump is once again going to become the so-called leader of the free world — and has won the popular vote in the U.S. for the first time in three elections.

“I’m trying to wrap my head around the fact that 30 million women voted for this man who clearly does not respect women at all,” Amy Dorris, one of his accusers, told The Independent.……..

And I think it's fair to question what took so long with the criminal cases against Trump. Whether or not he was convicted is one thing, but he should have had to stand trial before this election. MAJOR mistake there.
It’s more than fair. I’m not in any mood to make excuses for dragging their arses, but I’ll observe that the number of Trump co-conspirators in our legislative branch has reached 50% including a corrupted pro-Trump corruption SCOTUS. Checks and balances? They’re gone, without an unforeseen miracle, I think we’re screwed. 😔

And Trump was a regular call in guest to FOX during Obama’s administration.

But Merrick Garland is a good man, or so I'm told.

In the 2024 election, women turned out for Kamala Harris, while men were instrumentalin securing Donald Trump’s win, according to early polling information. In some cases, those women and men were married to each other or otherwise romantically involved. In other relationships, it was the men who voted for Harris, while their female partners voted for Trump.

Here, Americans who voted differently from their partners shared with the Guardian how such partisan views have affected their relationship, what it was like to “cancel out” a loved one’s vote, and why some kept their votes secret. Some requested to keep their identities anonymous to discuss personal matters.

‘The only thing keeping me in this marriage is my teenagers’

I’m voting for Harris, and I fight about it often with my husband. I’m disgusted with him for how he has changed from the man I married to supporting a candidate who is anti-everything in our personal lives.

We have a trans child, a female child, a disabled child, mixed-race grandchildren, all of whom are hated by the Maga party. I’ve always been an independent feminist who bases beliefs on logic, facts and empathy.

Living with a person who can’t admit to being wrong when facts are presented and no longer supports independent women is its own sort of hell. The only thing keeping me in this marriage is my teenagers.

Thankfully, they’re juniors in high school, so I only have one and a half years to be stuck in it.

‘I hate lying to her, but it’s for the best’

I’ve been dating my girlfriend for 10 months. We met through a mutual friend at her church, and got along instantly. I love her to death. We celebrated Halloween and dressed up as ghosts.

I secretly voted for Kamala Harris. I told my girlfriend that I wasn’t voting, and she doesn’t doubt it. She once said that Trump is America’s last hope, and that he is God’s chosen candidate.

It was horrifying. I was internally screaming “WTF”. She has also said that the allegations against him are all lies; part of a “secret plot” to destroy him.

But I wasn’t ready to talk about it. I feel dishonest. I hate lying, but it’s for the best. I’d hate to see her go insane over my vote, but I know she would. Not only that, but her father would disapprove of our relationship if he knew. He would disapprove of her just for dating me. I can’t risk that, ever.

Tom Nichols isn’t letting go of this. I have seen a LOT of posts on Twitter where people (MAGA) are complaining that people in their lives are holding their vote for Trump against them. They are so angry that people are not willing to just pretend their vote for Trump didn’t happen. They are deeply unserious people.

    sadly, she's not wrong

...........With Trump’s return to the national stage after he left in disgrace in 2021 after the Capitol riot, Greene’s influence within the Republican Party has only grown. She has now been mentioned as a possible cabinet member in the second Trump administration.

Appearing on the conservative outlet Real America’s Voice, Greene argued that she’s now part of the “mainstream” and no longer a “fringe” politician.

“Here’s one thing I would like to point out. They’ve attacked me continuously, called me radical, fringe extremists,” Greene said. “You know what they found out today? President Trump will have over five million of the popular vote ahead of Kamala Harris. He will, by the time this is done, likely have 312 electoral college votes.”

“The message that was shot across the bow is, guess what? The American people, the voters that voted for Trump overwhelmingly, they are MTG,” she added, referring to herself in the third person. “MTG is not radical or extreme. She’s mainstream America.

“And I am very much looking forward to working in an administration that is on that level. And we have to get it done. We made a lot of big promises on the campaign trail, and now we have to deliver.”...........

Villa Vie Residences is offering Americans a four-year escape from reality. Following Donald Trump’s victory over Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, the residential cruise line announced a new sailing that will run the length of the convicted felon’s forthcoming term.

Dubbed the “Skip Forward” package, Villa Vie will welcome new residents onboard its Odyssey ship for up to four years. For Americans who promised to leave the country should Trump come out victorious, the cruise line offers that opportunity. Passengers who set sail will visit more than 140 countries across all seven continents.

It won’t be cheap to dodge the real world, though. Single occupancy options start at $255,999, while double occupancy rates begin at $319,998.

A two-year “Midterm Selection” package will allow passengers to sit out of the political landscape until after the 2026 midterms. It’ll be $150,399 for single passengers who opt for that option, and $187,998 for pairs. The line also offers one and three year packages.

The price includes meals, spa facilities, fitness programs, internet access, weekly housekeeping, and more.

The experience, a Villa Vie Residences spokesperson told Business Insider, offers “flexibility to escape traffic jams, politics, and the monotony of city life.”...........

Just days after Election Day, right-wing activists and two Republican state lawmakers in Pennsylvania withdrew the majority of last-minute challenges filed against voters’ mail ballot applications.

Around 77% of more than 4,400 challenges were withdrawn on Wednesday or Thursday, including in Allegheny, Bucks, Clinton, Cumberland, Dauphin, Delaware, Lancaster and Lehigh counties, NPR has confirmed. The removals come after more than 100 challenges were withdrawn on or before Election Day in Centre and Chester counties.

To voting rights groups and many of the affected voters, the withdrawal of more than 3,400 challenges coming right after a successful election for the GOP underscores that these formal objections to voter eligibility were baseless.............
