Today it begins, Kamala has reached the point that she's the Democratic Party nominee:

There's video from today. this link has video from her first public appearance since Biden endorsed her:

She spent yesterday on the telephone for most of the day. I read that yesterday that she called the party leaders in all 50 states. That would take me three days.

She's renamed her YouTube channel, that's the where to go for video: https://www.youtube.com/@kamalaharris

This is her video on her channel from two hours ago:

To play it, start it, and then move it up to 5:47. This was one of those live videos which don't start at zero.

I've named this thread General Election 2024 Harris vs Trump

Trump needs an introduction post as well, a MAGA suporter ought to write it: @Farb, @SaintForLife , @Others, calling for someone to please introduce your GOP candidate for this 2024 general election thread.

I don't mean at the ceremony. I'm taking about across the country.
I see no sign of it happening here, and I was out and about in town both today, and yesterday.

What did happen today was three scammer calls, two of them being some variation of the process server scam. A friend also got one of those calls. I would imagine old folks are sitting at home stressing, and they'd be easy pickings for a conman in that state of mind.

Infoman in a previous post said what I agree is the main reason she lost: she was "tied to an unpopular POTUS in a country looking for change to the tune of 70%..."

Did being a woman hurt her with some voters? Sure. (And the chances the D's will nominate a woman for President are dead for a very long time.) But if the D candidate had been a man yet Biden's VP, I think we end up in the same place.
I think this may be true, but it is invalid in the sense that there is no valid reason for Biden to be so unpopular. History will probably show that he has been a very good to great president. The lack of popularity was driven by invalid criticisms. Trump was poor. He did nothing but sustain the economy he got, mismanage the pandemic, bend and break laws. His poor popularity was earned.

The talking heads on ABC, NBC, CBC seem to feel it was all about the economy early in the Biden Administration vs the economy early in the Trump Administration. Are you better off today than you used to be? That kind of thing.
I think that is true, but invalid, since today’s economy is almost as good as it gets. Biden inherited a horrible economy. It may have been the worst economy since the great depression and he guided us out to a great economy. These feelings all derive from inflation and interest rates which are all getting better.

He has already said he wants to be the Acting AG from day 1 - he knows he wouldn't be confirmed so he thinks that Trump could make him acting AG with all of the same power. Of course that's not how it works and he wouldn't have AG power as the acting AG because he doesn't meet the qualifications under the Vacancies Reform Act.

You might expect someone gunning for AG to know some pretty basic federal administration law but then again these are Trump people - they don't know shirt.
Okay - but who enforces the Vacancies Reform Act? What enforcement mechanism is in place?

We all know Trump and his lackeys don’t care about the law. So who will stop him if he violates the Act?

I have started to think the advantage was Trump being able to constantly campaign for the last 4 years. He never went away. He had rallies just a month after Biden was sworn in. And continued having rallies the ENTIRETY of Biden presidency.

Biden and Harris have been working and don't have time to campaign for 4 years. Trump literally has nothing better to do....no job, no other real responsibilities.

I think that is pretty unfair and should not be allowed in the future.

2 things can be true at the same time... not a terribly hard concept... For example - Saying 2 +2 = 4 is a true statement.... But also 2 x 2 = 4 is also a true statement.... Different... but both true. You're welcome.

No one was arguing or even remotely suggesting that Trump is / was not a severely flawed candidate - That's not in dispute at all... The comment was about people portraying Harris as the Mother Teressa of candidates... which if you have any sort of ability to not lie to yourself... Is also laughable.
If Harris and Trump were measured based on flaws, she’s orders of magnitude closer to Mother Teresa. He’s closer to Putin. Trump is a a wannabe authoritarian. I honestly think there was huge suppression in this election from legal and illegal tactics and fear and intimidation. I think it will only get worse next time with Trump heading the executive branch. I don’t think we have even thought of the ways they will fix the next election.

Do you think that the President has any authority to change those things?
The only place he could affect this is in government organizations like the military, where it has never happened. Private organizations are still free to do this, but Trumpsters will try to outlaw lots of things that are currently free.

I'm not pulling this out of my butt... It's has long been polled and represented...

Most registered voters have unfavorable opinions of Biden or Trump. Again, only Michelle Obama receives majority favorability among registered voters. Other potential candidates, aside from Vice President Kamala Harris, have lower favorability ratings but also lower name recognition.

Forty-two percent of registered voters say they have a favorable opinion of Trump, and 38% say the same about Biden. About three in five say they have unfavorable opinions of Trump (56%) or Biden (60%).

Comparatively, more registered voters, 55%, say they have a favorable opinion of Michelle Obama. Kamala Harris’ favorability generally falls in line with Trump and Biden, as 40% of registered voters say they have a favorable opinion of her.

In any case... I am done talking about Trump and Harris... That debate is over. It's been decided by the voters... I want much better options going forward and I don't care what letter is next to their name on the ballot in the next election... Nor should any of you.

The question is no longer who was worse... It's irrelevant now...

The question is - how do we do better next time and avoid all of this again? And the only way to do that is to look in the mirror - accept what went wrong - and correct it... Not double down on what got us here. The gaslighting is telling me what happened - didn't happen because of 2 bad choices again, and giving me bunk reasons why it doesn't have to be that way.

FWIW - I am posing this to everyone I know that never wanted this man near the Oval office again... no matter their party affiliation... you should all do the same.
Hillary Clinton also had good favorabilities until the Republican machine destroyed it.

…but cheaper eggs will make it worth it.

Predators poising as benefactors are evidently better sheep herders.
“Exit polls reflected many voters turned to Trump because of their frustrations with high inflation and the cost of living.”
Speaking to them: You don’t know (cause you’re STUPID) just how expensive your eggs just became.
Remember when we thought they’d surely come to their senses? No they won’t, not ever, they’ll just careen in a new likely self defeating direction. 😓

The punch line: who caused high inflation and cost of living? The first Trump Administration YOU FREAKING MORONS. What is inexcusable is signing away our Democratic Republic for Fascism, and you’ll personally deserve every bit of pain and suffering you’ve reaped upon yourselves. 😡

So everyone here knows how I feel about these 2 parties.... Know my utter dislike and distaste for DJT.... Know my distrust in all things that originate in DC from the D establishment and R neocons and everything in between...

Given that.... I do not buy the over the top Hyperbolic rhetoric from either side.... and it's part of the reason I want both parties to be reduced to atoms... I never bought that Harris was a Marxist Communist - and I never bought that Trump was a Fascist Dictator.... And now that the election is over.... Almost all of that rhetoric has been shut down... Shocker.

So simple question... given the reality of the situation...

If in 12 months... We do not live in a Police State Dictatorship, where Democracy no longer exists, where there is a nation wide ban on abortion, where political opponents are jailed, where every migrant both legal and illegal is deported, etc... And the US just sort of just keeps being what it has been... Do any of you change your mind at all when presented with that evidence? Or do you just keep doing what you're doing?

You are decrying rhetoric from both sides - which is fine and I agree it was hyperbolic.

What you haven’t addressed is the difference in ACTION from either side. There was an unlawful attempt to overturn the valid election in 2020 by Trump and his enablers. It was not rhetoric, it was actions taken. It culminated in a violent mob breaching the US Capitol during what should have been a routine certification of election results. It was planned to disrupt the proceedings, giving Trump time to strong arm R states into declaring results invalid - with zero proof of fraud. We have a phone recording of him suggesting to the top GA election official that he “find” 11,780 votes so Trump could win that state (which he lost). This isn’t rhetoric and it’s entirely one-sided.

So here’s what I don’t get - how does that not sway you one bit? That was unprecedented. And while the Ds are certainly using heated rhetoric - they didn’t deny facts - they didn’t try to overturn the 2016 election in the way the GOP did.

Because both siders will never stop both siding, no matter how batshirt crazy one side gets.....it's inexplicable to me....

No she didn't. Whitewater was a real concern for voters. Dems messed up big time nominating her.
You're wrong. Whitewater hurt her favorability, but then it went way up, particularly when she served as Sec of State.

If Trump does what he said he would do, we WILL live in a police state. If he actually tries mass deportation, instead of normal deportation, it WILL be a police state. If he actually starts using the justice department against his opponents, we WILL be in a police state. If he fires professionals throughout the government and replaces them with his accolytes, we WILL be in a police state. In addition, he will hurt the country in many other ways that isn't related to being a police state. He either lied about his intentions, or we WILL be a police state. He lies so much, that I can only hope he was lying about his intentions. If he does, no Republican will get re-elected in 2028, if we have fair elections, which I'm not sure we will ever have again, unless the MAGA world comes out of its trance.

On the other hand, had Harris done what she said she intended to do, the country would not have been a police state and would've kept getting better, as it has under Biden.

He’s lied so much about so many things, to both his supporters and critics, here’s hoping he continues the streak
