Today it begins, Kamala has reached the point that she's the Democratic Party nominee:

There's video from today. this link has video from her first public appearance since Biden endorsed her:

She spent yesterday on the telephone for most of the day. I read that yesterday that she called the party leaders in all 50 states. That would take me three days.

She's renamed her YouTube channel, that's the where to go for video: https://www.youtube.com/@kamalaharris

This is her video on her channel from two hours ago:

To play it, start it, and then move it up to 5:47. This was one of those live videos which don't start at zero.

I've named this thread General Election 2024 Harris vs Trump

Trump needs an introduction post as well, a MAGA suporter ought to write it: @Farb, @SaintForLife , @Others, calling for someone to please introduce your GOP candidate for this 2024 general election thread.

How much Kamala Harris' gender played in her losing is tough to say, but the data right now paints a more complicated picture.

in 2020 38% of white men & 79% of black men voted for biden vs 61% & 19% for trumpin 2024 37% of white men & 77% of black men voted for harris vs 60% & 21% for trump

Harris did much worse with almost every other demographic (including white women and Latina women) than Biden did, but performed pretty equally with white and black women.

Maybe the low turn out was due to her gender, but from a pure data point, I don't think spending a lot of time on her gender is going to lead to much useful information.

I don't know why the Harris lost as badly as she did... but what the Democrats need to do, is the same thing any party needs to do, is have a message they believe and effectively communicate that message. That's ultimately where they failed - either the message didn't resonate, or they failed to communicate it well.

Well said. This probably makes a good case that the Democrats missed the mark by not addressing the economy more. Inflation is real, and problematic for a lot of people, and it wasn't sufficiently addressed in the campaign.

But ultimately, I think what hurt more than anything was Biden stepping down so late and Harris not going through a full Primary cycle. The groundwork Biden did during the nomination process didn't translate to Harris.

I do thing the black woman candidate was an issue for some people, but 10 million all not voting for that reason? Doesn't add up imo.

Tariffs in retaliation won’t be on simple goods.

Rare earth minerals, anything high tech required for defense, anything for high tech processes.

Low tech materials including foodstuffs that would be imported into PRC would simply come from elsewhere. Africa, Latin American, wherever the PRC can get it. The idiocy of Trump on the world stage will come back to haunt him and us. He is too arrogant to actually be successful in crisis political economics. Marginalization starts the day he is inaugurated.

It appears to be some combination of that. I also think work needs to be done in figuring out how to pierce information bubbles. Because, I knew what her platform was on the economy, but a lot of people didn't. Some work needs to be done on how to counter an oppositions attempt to unfairly paint them.

But a few of here did say that we wish the Democrats would hammer their economic message more... loudly and often. It's the number 1 issue for everyone, all the time, every time. I wish the idea of democracy and human decency were bigger issues, but they aren't, and we all knew that. As I think somone once said "It's the economy stupid". Maybe that guy should run for president or something.

I now know that more people in this country are more concerned about electing leaders that will cater to their individual wants, character and integrity be damned. If a candidate doesn't promise to give into the what some are demanding from them, they stay home and ignore all the warnings of the thousands of "Subject Matter Experts" speaking out against the opposing candidate.

Nvmd the fact that this particular candidate is a serial rapist and convicted felon, the other guy isn't gonna give me what I want. Character and Integrity means NOTHING to the overwhelming majority of people in this country and that just SUCKS.
The main thing Trump gives people is an outlet for their rage. They associate him with fighting against whatever it is they hate. They may say the economy, or immigration, or inflation, or gas prices, or Palestinians, or transgender, but none of those make sense, since either Harris would be better on those or it wasn’t part of her platform. Maybe a few were worried Harris would start reversing abortion restrictions, but other than that conviction, it’s all about anger and resentment that Trump will somehow fix. Half the nation doesn’t even care that he doesn’t have a reasonable or any plan, and most don’t believe his worst inclinations. They don’t want to believe he conned them to stay out of jail and make more money.

Trumpsters may not care anymore, but I hope we investigate what happened. How many votes were suppressed? Was there any legitimate fraud? I'm shocked that North Carolina voted in Josh Stein with 54.8% to Robinson's 40%, yet Trump won by 51 to 47%. Also, Arizona and Nevada overwhelmingly voted to protect abortion access, yet Trump won in both states. Those are very suspicious results. If so, I hope to see court cases if evidence is found.

It is wild that bomb threats in only major liberal hubs has been memory holed already.

Yeah, he’s on a real tear, I just posted this in the Cabinet thread

He’s an extremist, yet Trump hosted him at Mar-a-Lago for dinner within the last couple years. He’s not as fringe as he should be. He’s just saying it out loud. Most won’t say it.

…….However, after Trump declared victory over Democratic nominee Harris, some Americans couldn’t help but say they felt reaffirmed in their belief that most of the United States would rather anyone else as president than a woman.

Perhaps that’s why interest in South Korea’s 4B movement – a movement against patriarchy – has spiked in the US just hours after Trump’s win.

“American women, looks like it’s time to get influenced by Korea’s 4B movement,” one woman wrote on X/Twitter.

“American women, it’s time to learn from the Koreans and adopt the 4B movement,” another user echoed, while a third person said: “The women in South Korea are doing it. It’s time we join them. Men will NOT be rewarded, nor have access to our bodies.”

The 4B movement, which reportedly originated in 2019, stands for four Korean words beginning with “bi” or “no” in English: bihon means no heterosexual marriage; bichulsan, no childbirth; biyeonae, no dating; and bisekseu, no heterosexual sexual relationships.

Supporters of the women-led movement refuse to date, marry, have sex or have children with men – effectively boycotting a system they feel perpetuates gender inequity……..
