Today it begins, Kamala has reached the point that she's the Democratic Party nominee:

There's video from today. this link has video from her first public appearance since Biden endorsed her:

She spent yesterday on the telephone for most of the day. I read that yesterday that she called the party leaders in all 50 states. That would take me three days.

She's renamed her YouTube channel, that's the where to go for video: https://www.youtube.com/@kamalaharris

This is her video on her channel from two hours ago:

To play it, start it, and then move it up to 5:47. This was one of those live videos which don't start at zero.

I've named this thread General Election 2024 Harris vs Trump

Trump needs an introduction post as well, a MAGA suporter ought to write it: @Farb, @SaintForLife , @Others, calling for someone to please introduce your GOP candidate for this 2024 general election thread.

No matter what the polls will tell you, that "Trans issue" was the most motivating issue for the right in this country. That's all Cruz ran commercials about here in Texas and it worked. Many people in this country hate and are repulsed by transgendered people and scapegoat that community for every grievance they have.

This describes my entire family. They hate trans and think it's an abomination (then enjoy their shrimp and crawfish, which is also a Biblical abomination).

Their single issue used to be abortion, but now that they won that one the new single-issue is being anti-trans. All being pushed by their rich, mega church preachers.

No, he doesn't.

He's just going on and on with his usual spiel, while completely ignoring the gains that the D's have provided to the "working class" much like the working class has. I'm not going to repeat all that the D's had done because it has been repeated ad nauseum in this thread.

That's just the tip of the iceberg. If anything, he is complicit to the failure for not championing Democrat's efforts to help the "working class".

We want change, we want change, but we don't want to participate in working for the change we want, we want what we want and we want it now. I'm sure you're gonna ignore the above efforts and many other efforts D's have taken to work towards the "changes" you want, just like Bernie has repeatedly done in an effort to further his own agenda.
It doesn’t matter that those things were done. Not because they weren’t real. It doesn’t matter because the messaging was done poorly. It doesn’t matter because racism and sexism and misogyny were on display. It doesn’t matter because too much of the electorate is G-d stupid.

The concept of “traditional Democratic constituencies” is now coming apart. The Democratic Party had better learn extremely quickly what to do going forward.

Seems like Bernie Sanders already tried that and failed.

Bernie always ran into the southern conserative black vote. All those conseratives appears to have actually moved over to Republicans now yes? That's what the exit polling showed at least.

Edit to add: My view of this election and loss hasn't changed. We needed a candidate who wasn't associated with the unpopular administration. This candidate need to have a clear vision for help the middle class. That means housing, price gouging, and wage increases. This all could have happened if Joe Biden followed through with being a bridge candidate.

That would have been better, certainly. Kamala clearly didn't move the needle for most people.

Biden and Newsom have something in common that Hilary, Kamala, Jesus, and Mary don't have. And even if that was actually a thing that happened, the point remains that the GOP and it's base are so thoroughly out of touch with reality that they would vote against their own lord and savior if He ran as a Democrat.
I've always thought that Jesus possessed a pair of them.

Do you remember this old saw? "Ball's cried the queen, if I had two, I'd be king."

I had an old uncle who would wail that out every time he'd removed a worn out ball bearing from a machine he was working on, and was dropping it in the worn out bearing bucket he kept in his shop. He would also cry it out especially loud when he emptied his worn out balls-bucket on the iron pile when it became too full.

I now know that more people in this country are more concerned about electing leaders that will cater to their individual wants, character and integrity be damned. If a candidate doesn't promise to give into the what some are demanding from them, they stay home and ignore all the warnings of the thousands of "Subject Matter Experts" speaking out against the opposing candidate.

Nvmd the fact that this particular candidate is a serial rapist and convicted felon, the other guy isn't gonna give me what I want. Character and Integrity means NOTHING to the overwhelming majority of people in this country and that just SUCKS.

I know. I'm totally over it at this point. Let them run it into the ground over stupid nonsense.

I don't think tariffs are necessarily bad if they are strategic and targeted, based on a sound policy objective, but using them widely and indiscriminately would be shooting ourselves in the foot economically. I think it's more likely the Trump admin will use tariffs to reward and/or punish private businesses or industries - corrupt, crony capitalism type stuff.
Tariffs can be good but they can only do so much.

The chicken tax that has been on the books since the late 50s makes others assemble trucks here to skirt the 25 percent tariff.

Good old Ronnie saved Harley with a 100 percent tarrif on motorcycles that were sold at 750 ccs and above. That went down to nothing in about a decade.

It did save Harley and all kinds of boomers got to cosplay tough guys on the weekend. It also killed dealers of other brands their sales fell off a cliff.

They should have forced them to compete because Harley has been bailed out numerous times since then. They have put all their eggs in that boomer basket and nobody wants them now.they aged out of the market or they sell them tricycles. The market for motorcycles north of 30k that get 8 more mpg than my f150 is next to nothing really.

Plenty of companies come up with work arounds.

My personal favorite is converse they import chucks as slippers to save on the tariffs. It is brilliant if you ever look at the soles of chucks they are a little fuzzy because they mix felt in with the rubber than then changes them to slippers. Saves them 10 percent.

The sad part is the American worker earns too much for tariffs to truly be effective in brining jobs back unless it is an an ungodly expensive product.

Example you can buy an all American hoodie for 150 bucks or eight imported ones.

So, we can disagree about the role of misogyny in people not voting for Harris. But nobody can deny that the amount of misogyny that is present has been rising for around a decade and is still going up. And it comes from younger men, mostly, in this new surge anyway.

the incels feel powerful. hope women go bobbit on them.

How much Kamala Harris' gender played in her losing is tough to say, but the data right now paints a more complicated picture.

in 2020 38% of white men & 79% of black men voted for biden vs 61% & 19% for trumpin 2024 37% of white men & 77% of black men voted for harris vs 60% & 21% for trump

Harris did much worse with almost every other demographic (including white women and Latina women) than Biden did, but performed pretty equally with white and black men.

Maybe the low turn out was due to her gender, but from a pure data point, I don't think spending a lot of time on her gender is going to lead to much useful information.

I don't know why the Harris lost as badly as she did... but what the Democrats need to do, is the same thing any party needs to do, is have a message they believe and effectively communicate that message. That's ultimately where they failed - either the message didn't resonate, or they failed to communicate it well.
