Today it begins, Kamala has reached the point that she's the Democratic Party nominee:

There's video from today. this link has video from her first public appearance since Biden endorsed her:

She spent yesterday on the telephone for most of the day. I read that yesterday that she called the party leaders in all 50 states. That would take me three days.

She's renamed her YouTube channel, that's the where to go for video: https://www.youtube.com/@kamalaharris

This is her video on her channel from two hours ago:

To play it, start it, and then move it up to 5:47. This was one of those live videos which don't start at zero.

I've named this thread General Election 2024 Harris vs Trump

Trump needs an introduction post as well, a MAGA suporter ought to write it: @Farb, @SaintForLife , @Others, calling for someone to please introduce your GOP candidate for this 2024 general election thread.

Neither party has had any real plan for the suffering middle class.
    The Infrastructure Act.
    The CHIPS and Science Act.
    First-time Home Buyer tax credit.
    Child Tax Credit.
    Student Loan Forgiveness.
    Support for Unions.
    And on, and on...

All of that (and more) greatly benefits the middle class. This isn't a "both sides" situation.

I wish I cared enough to go find my Facebook comment from about two weeks after the 2020 election. I said then Trump would win and win big in 2024 because his 71 million voters worshipped him and Biden's voters were just angry at Trump and taking advantage of it being easy to vote because of Covid. Under normal circumstances, I predicted a decline of 10 - 15% Dem votes while Trump would be right where he was. He never grows and declines significantly in his support.

I've been saying it back here quite a bit too. I said just last week he was going to win and win big.

I don't know exactly what it says about the American people, but there has never been a more adored American political figure by their base. People build their entire identity around their literal worship of Trump. Truck parades. Boat parades. I live near Trump Burger.

We have never seen anything like this in America. Trying to say an open primary would have caused these acolytes to do something different is like saying a better candidate would have caused the Heaven's Gate folks to take off their Nikes. Conventional wisdom doesn't apply here.

Yep, no question conventional wisdom has never applied to Trump.

What are you talking about? Up until yesterday, most people voting for Harris had a good feeling she'd win. Exit polls even showed that the majority of the people voting for Harris where actually voting for her and not just against Trump.

I know you felt that way and no doubt so did right wingers, but to say everybody saw this failure coming is just revisionist history.
I guess I should have started that sentence with “everyone living in reality…”.

Going into the election it was 50/50 at best she would win, but plenty of people outside of right wingers thought that Harris’ nomination would go over like a fart in church, and guess what, it did.

    Sure, these are helpful

    They aren’t groundbreaking.

I’m not saying that Dems and Republicans are the same in their efforts. Clearly this isn’t true.

But I think at a time when so many are living paycheck to paycheck, we need to aim for larger initiatives that really get people to the voting booth. SLF was a good start, but can you imagine if it were implemented for even half of Americans?

Other ideas: investing in universal basic services, public housing investment trust, portable benefits system between jobs, deliver on free public higher ed, serious mortgage reform, etc etc

That's fair. More can always be done. However, there are political realities to getting things done. If we go before this administration there's a lot more. When the position is opposition and the American people slap your hand for trying to help them it can be tough. If you're middle or working-class there's only one party even thinking about you though, no matter what the Internet meme you may have based your political opinion on tells you.

I was skeptical, but Zelensky made a shrewd move by meeting with Trump before the election. I just hope he knows what he's doing because Trump has long been an ally of Poots. If he can get broad support from both parties, Trump might be willing to maintain support of Ukraine. I don't trust Trump at all though.

Yeah, because the right wing is known for "living in reality." :smilielol: :smilielol: :smilielol: :haha-rire-395:

    Your bring the comedy.

There is no way Zelensky or anyone else is coming between Trump and his bae, Putin. I promise you Ukrainian diplomats are reaching out to try and figure something out with Russia now that will embolden Putin because they know they are about to be on an island.

Yeah, that's a futile effort. Ukraine will lose the war to Russia. They'll be lucky if they can keep their country and part of their territory.

They've got about 3 months to figure something out. We'll see.

I did write in “Pee Wee Herman” for President. Gone but not forgotten.

Some people got too high on their own supply, and it showed.

I wouldn't count them out just yet. NATO allies have been giving Ukraine a ton of support, and I don't know how much more or how long they can, but I think Trump may be content with letting them do the heavy lifting. We'll see.

One party can sell a feces sandwich and the other party can’t sell free money and jobs.

it was campaign bluster- the economy was already rebounding- as it continues to get better, he will simply point to his election as reason and not having to use tariffs.

Tariffs would be inflationary so unless he wants to let that genie out the bottle....

but then again, that might be the "temporary hardships" Elon was talking about if Trump were to win and enact his policies as he wished.

4 more years of "Ready, FIRE, Aim"
Don’t forget he is so delusional he says that tariffs will replace the federal income tax. And he promised to get rid of federal income taxes on tips, and for firefighters, police and the military. He’s promised to do so many things, it’s stupid. He’s provably not doing any of that - just like he didn’t do anything he promised last time - no wall, no infrastructure, no healthcare plan, nothing.
