Today it begins, Kamala has reached the point that she's the Democratic Party nominee:

There's video from today. this link has video from her first public appearance since Biden endorsed her:

She spent yesterday on the telephone for most of the day. I read that yesterday that she called the party leaders in all 50 states. That would take me three days.

She's renamed her YouTube channel, that's the where to go for video: https://www.youtube.com/@kamalaharris

This is her video on her channel from two hours ago:

To play it, start it, and then move it up to 5:47. This was one of those live videos which don't start at zero.

I've named this thread General Election 2024 Harris vs Trump

Trump needs an introduction post as well, a MAGA suporter ought to write it: @Farb, @SaintForLife , @Others, calling for someone to please introduce your GOP candidate for this 2024 general election thread.

    A couple of opinions…

I hoped Harris would win. I was never confident that she would. As for why she was the nominee, political parties are not bound by primaries. They can set their own rules. I had zero problem with her being the nominee.

Now, regarding inflation I have pontificated about it and perception. Well, the damn reality is that inflation AS GAGED BY THE GOVERNMENT has been slightly above two percent. The reality is not gasoline prices because of the extreme real and potential volatility. The same cannot be said for housing, food and healthcare. Of course, all of this begs a much bigger question…what the absolute flock can the government do about it. Sure, they can raise interest rates again which would hammer the home building segment. But in food and healthcare? Anything other than arbitrary price caps with no exceptions would mean the government crawling up business’s azz with an electron microscope. That ain’t gonna happen. Some things that might happen are reports will drop as the dollar strengthens. That will result, potentially, in layoffs. Small businesses will get hurt as consumers start to get squeezed should layoffs happen.

Regarding tariffs, in point of opinion, once you engage in a free trade scenario which is the ultimate race to the bottom getting out of it is not easy. The Orange Buffoon threw around a bunch of numbers regarding tariffs on China et al. Since Mao-Mart and other large retailers have supply chains that are 10,000 miles long their prices will go up. Exports will decline which would impact employment.

Etc. Etc. Etc. Have to come back later.

While I believe that Kamala being a woman and black led to the poor turnout when compared to Biden's, I am willing to concede that she could have cut into trump's numbers by focusing on the economy instead of depending on getting overwhelming support from women.
The misinformation and the stupidity surrounding the economy will be the main reason if we fail to elect Harris.

The D's continually allow the radical right to define hot button issues using lies and manipulation without facing any pushback. The R's has convinced a large majority in this country that the Global Inflation that was sparked after the Global Pandemic was solely a US problem driven by the Harris administration. The same public has been manipulated to ignore the fact that the US economy is THE STRONGEST ECONOMY IN THE WORLD and had the BEST recovery from the GLOBAL inflation crisis. The stock market are routinely breaking records, unemployment is lower than any time of the trump years, and wages are up.

D's have failed to convey those facts to the American people, they may not understand it, but they NEED TO HEAR IT! Instead, they are being told everyday that their groceries cost a 2nd mortgage and it is Harris/Biden's fault. If you tell a big lie enough and keep repeating it, eventually you'll convince the ill-informed to believe that lie.

Edit: While abortion is a big issue, so is the economy and the D's chose to be hyper focused on the abortion issue and ignored the Republican attack on the economy! They lost the opportunity to show the American people the fruits of their labor by comparing how the US is doing compared to the rest of the world.
I would like to hear from the +15M that opted out of this election, in particular, the ones that chose Biden and turned away from Harris.

Sorry, unless I'm misunderstanding you, that's just not true. Biden beat Trump 4 years ago. A Gavin Newsom type would likely win this election if he gets a full campaign in.

Biden and Newsom have something in common that Hilary, Kamala, Jesus, and Mary don't have. And even if that was actually a thing that happened, the point remains that the GOP and it's base are so thoroughly out of touch with reality that they would vote against their own lord and savior if He ran as a Democrat.

I mean, I'm not disputing that. They adore and worship Trump, even more than their religion. Trumpism is a cult and they're acting the part.

But those who were in the margins like SBTB was talking about can be won over as they're more open minded. Also, a lot of people stayed home. Somewhere between 10 and 20 million people stayed home this cycle. Trump's numbers didn't change from 2020. The Democratic votes shrunk significantly. Republicans won the turnout war.

This was a missed opportunity for Democrats. Turnout has always been an issue for Democrats. They got it done in 2020, but barely. There wasn't much room for error unfortunately.

People want to vote for someone, not against someone. Obama could generate that - turns out Harris couldn’t.

    The man gets it.
    No, he doesn't.

He's just going on and on with his usual spiel, while completely ignoring the gains that the D's have provided to the "working class" much like the working class has. I'm not going to repeat all that the D's had done because it has been repeated ad nauseum in this thread.
    The Infrastructure Act.
    The CHIPS and Science Act.
    First-time Home Buyer tax credit.
    Child Tax Credit.
    Student Loan Forgiveness.
    Support for Unions.
    And on, and on...

All of that (and more) greatly benefits the middle class. This isn't a "both sides" situation.
That's just the tip of the iceberg. If anything, he is complicit to the failure for not championing Democrat's efforts to help the "working class".

We want change, we want change, but we don't want to participate in working for the change we want, we want what we want and we want it now. I'm sure you're gonna ignore the above efforts and many other efforts D's have taken to work towards the "changes" you want, just like Bernie has repeatedly done in an effort to further his own agenda.

He does have a point. You guys weren't paying attention, or something. Kamala was firmly to the right of Joe. A progressive should point out this approach is 0/2. Even, Obama governed completely different from how he campaigned, as a economic populist.

She was getting super cozy with billionaires.

There was public pressure from said bilionaires to sack Lina Khan.

Latino men 55% for Trump. That wasn't on my radar at all.

    Why the fork not. Smh.

I wonder what they think they're getting with their vote, lol. Next 4 years will be fun, but I'm going to check out if it and not give a fork when the crying starts. Standard response, "You voted for that shirt, lol. Pendejo."

It has been a heartbreaking 24 hours. Fascism triumphed over democracy, hate overshadowed love, and cruelty replaced compassion. This was my last fight—for freedom and for the future of my daughter and all our grand children.

With Trump in power, there will be nothing to prevent the impending climate catastrophe; we’re now on a direct path toward disaster. I have no doubt that he and his billionaire allies will find ways to protect themselves, but the rest of the world will face unimaginable challenges, and the damage to our planet may be irreparable. Perhaps Musk will even relocate those who can afford it to Mars. I know this sounds deeply cynical, but it reflects how I feel right now.

I may not be here for the next struggle, or I may not even be able to understand it. I've recently been diagnosed with an aggressive, early-onset genetic form of Alzheimer’s. Medication is helping slow it down for now, but as my doctors say, unless there are major breakthroughs, it won’t stop the disease—only delay it.

I’ve closed my Twitter account (I refuse to call it “X”) and am stepping away from politics, perhaps permanently, to focus on my family and doing everything I can to keep this disease at bay. So, you likely won’t see me around much in the coming months, and one day, I may simply slip away quietly.

I’ll keep hoping and praying for the America I once knew and loved—and for the world. With Trump in power, it feels as if we’re accelerating toward a bleak future where authoritarianism and climate collapse may make today’s challenges seem like mere inconveniences.

We've been talking people need better education for 40 years, yet here we are.

This borders on conspiracy, but it's my opinion the dismantling of the education system was on purpose. An uneducated populace is much more easy to fleece.

Combine the dumbing down of America with the lack of accountability in news reporting and rampant misinformation campaigns on social media and the election results suddenly don't look so surprising.

The populace is uneducated, and has no idea which information they hear is real and which is not. It's all played out according to plan.

Just my little opinion on that. I don't expect the education system to improve any time soon.

"he inherited a great economy, did nothing remarkable with it except blow up the deficit and then left with 15% unemployment. We inherited a nation reeling from the pandemic and tackled getting people working again. We did that, but it did create an inflationary environment which we then tackled and now inflation is back at normal levels with low unemployment, rising wages and strong GDP growth." Over and over and over again.

Unfortunately that entire paragraph is too long and complicated for the average American to read through and understand. They need short four or five words sound bites and that's about all they can handle.
