The Democratic Party has a lot of good candidates that they can run in 2028 (and win with). They just really crapped the bed this go around by installing Kamala unopposed (just like everyone said they would). Even Stevie Wonder saw this outcome coming.

Just take comfort in the fact that even if Trump goes, Musk will still be there to Musk things up. They're most likely all going to turn on each other. You're absolutely right. Democrats had no choice. Biden was going to lose much worse, and I thought Harris would be good enough, but there didn't seem to be any options due to the funding situation. Harris ultimately raised historic amounts of money, so perhaps another candidate would've been able to raise the same money to fight Trump. Harris should've been good enough, but she failed to defend Biden's policies and the progress that has been made. I was one of the ones that advocated switching to Harris, since I thought a brokered convention would be too disruptive, but now I don't know. She made other mistakes, but maybe this country didn't care anyway. Putin has won, and democracies throughout the world have lost. How long is Trump's enemies' list? Could this be the end of the American experiment? Could this be the establishment of a new world order? If Trump hasn't been lying about his plans, we're doomed.

I would tell you you're wrong, unless he was lying about tariffs and mass deportations. There would be retaliatory tariffs that would tank our exports, and cost increases which would tank the profits of American companies. Either Trump has been lying about his plans, or America is in for some terrible times in the future. We could easily be dropped as the world's currency, which would result in huge increases interest rates and trying to pay off our debt will cripple us further. We will experience another great depression. My hope is that since he always lies, most of his plans were lies.

More than any other particular issue imo.. I think inflation doomed her. I'm not sure any Democrat - connected to the administration or not - was going to be able to overcome it. Other things played a role too, but I really do believe that people voted with their pocketbooks more than anything else.

You're kidding yourself if you think raising tariffs 200% is some sectors won't lead to retaliatory tariffs, which will then lead to more tariffs until trade the U.S. will no longer be tenable. The Euro is unstable. It has to be until and unless there is a United States of Europe. Eastern Europe, Italy and Greece cannot maintain what they need to do within their borders under the constraints of the EU and thereby the Euro.

By every objective measure, Harris is an infinitely better candidate than Trump. I don't give two shirts about how she came to be the nominee. Hilary, Biden, and Kamala were all infinitely better. Only Joe won. That speaks volumes about the misogyny of this country. The biggest thing the Democrats did wrong was run a female candidate because this backward-arse electorate can't get behind a woman in charge.

Everyone with two brain cells to rub together and a 10th-grade education can see that what the Republicans are doing that works for them is lying their arses off and stirring up fear and hate. If that's what wins them elections, this country is even more forked than we thought.

I want to say this as clearly as possible: The Democrats did not lose this election. The fascists won and America lost.

First, I agreed largely with what you said in your first post. That said, that's only half the story. And the other half needs to be self evaluation. It's sort of like the Saints not having the self-awareness to realize they needed a new coach and had to lose to one of the worst teams before finally admitting the coach needed to be replaced.

The DNC and party needs to figure the way forward. It's going to be a super tough 4 years. Let's not keep chopping wood and let's learn from the mistakes made. Yes, the Republican party and MAGA deserves the bulk of the blame, but we're all part of this and need to find a way forward.

The ramifications of a Trump win go far beyond what Trump will do with his four years. Project 2025 will wreck this country. Europe will be in danger. NATO will have to handle everything without the US. If Trump wins, we will be in a cesspool for many years after he is dead and gone. MAGA will grow another head and then another. If we can't get rid of them, the Republican party is truly dead. I hate making these kind of comparisons, but it will be likened to Stalin taking over and using Lenin's name to gain popularity....over and over again. I see no bright future for anyone except the rich, our very own oligarchs.

I agree with almost everything you said, except that the Republican party is dead. They just won the election. It should be dead, but apparently more than half of America are deplorables that want to wreck this country with recriminations of non-Judeo-Christian non-whites. They deplore historic Western values, and look up to authoritarians. That is a deplorable party, but it isn't a dead party. The Democratic party stands for historic American values, and perhaps Americans will wake up to the horrible approach the Republicans advocate, or perhaps we're doomed to be an authoritarian state.
