What I will say is I don't think some of the factors I've seen mentioned - candidate, identity politics, etc. - are actually the underlying reason for this.

I think this is very much a product of being in the age of misinformation. It doesn't matter who your candidate is when what too many people learn about them has little connection to who they are in reality. It doesn't matter if your platform isn't about identity politics when too many people will believe that it is whether it is or not.

You need checks and balances: strong levels of critical thinking in the population, objective - not falsely balanced - media that's trusted.

But we haven't got those. So it's psychological warfare and we're all losing.

Because fasicsts like Musk, Trump, a Chinese company and Zuckerberg have a virtual monopoly on too many people's only source of information and they have loaded it with their disinformation. They have the biggest information guns and news outlets are too busy chasing maximum profits to care about consistently correcting lies and calling out the liars.

Was Harris a better quality candidate than Trump? That was the only choice on the ballot. The choice was not "Harris is perfect" or Trump. It was simply who is better, Harris or Trump. Too many voters chose Trump as a better quality candidate over Harris.

For me, it’s hard to ignore the race/woman reason. And since Obama, with a similar message of hope, won two terms I come back to misogyny.

I feel terrible. We will have laws passed on the whims of a demented old bigot, who values nothing except his own grievances. And he will be manipulated by some truly awful people - like Musk and Vance and RFK, Jr. Not an honorable person in sight for this administration. And we haven’t even talked about Stephen Miller, Kash Patel, and even more that I’m forgetting. Last time there were honorable men around Trump in the beginning. This time there will only be charlatans, racists, etc.

It’s horrible to realize that the country you were born in, and love, doesn’t like you very much. Doesn’t care about your health or well-being. And most of the people who voted for Trump may not be overt racists, but he is, and they didn’t care. So the well-being and health of any POC was also disregarded.

I’d love to be wrong but I don’t see any real hope here. Vance is worse than Trump, imo. A deeply disturbed individual who has no moral compass at all, but is infinitely more intelligent than Trump.

That enough people voted for the azzhat that reinforced their hatred?
That enough people are flocking negligent of their civic duty?
That enough people are ignorant of economics?
That enough people don’t care about democracy?

The Democratic Party has, on occasion, run good campaigns. Clinton twice, Obama twice and Biden once.

So, what changed?

Nothing. Polls are bullschlitz whether 535 or Ipsos or NYT or whatever other one. The problem lies elsewhere. It lies in a society so screwed up that it can barely function. It is a society, to borrow from the Cold War days, that is Upper Volta with nukes. It lies in a people who have the attention span of a gnat with ADHD. It lies in a lack of critical thinking.

Actions have consequences and the law of unintended consequences aka karma is not simply a beach, it is a vindictive, angry, murderous beach.

The Democratic Party needs to totally clean house. They need to find people who get it. Until they do they will continue to flounder. What is the “it”? It is the need to understand and grasp with both hands, heart and mind that politics in this schlitzhole is bloodsport. The sooner they realize that they must cut out the heart of the Republican Party and eat it the sooner they will start to win. They also must focus on rebuilding their party from the ground up. That includes media. The mainstream media must be cast to the side as it no longer serves any purpose. They must build a multi-pronged media attack machine aimed at every single Republican politician.

The Democratic Party failed. Worse, the American people failed.

The world is worse off today than it was yesterday. The marginalization of the United States starts today.

So, what is the bottom line?

Stupidity ruled.

The misogyny is definitely a substantial part of it. Try to take comfort in the fact that it's only part of the country that doesn't love and like you and other women as equals just because you're women.

Also try to take comfort in the fact that 2/3's of both the House and the Senate have to vote in favor of a 25th Amendment removal. The Democrats can block the Heritage Foundation, Thiel and Musk if they try to replace Trump with their puppet Vance. It's not much, but it's something for now.

Harris was 100 times better candidate then trump, and she actually has policy plans....some pretty good ones. Trump still hasn't delivered his healthcare plan after 9 YEARS of claiming he has a great one('its called really good healthcare').

This whole mess makes me really sad, but also thankful that I no longer have to live in the cesspool USA. This right wing extremism is taking hold in Europe, too....so it won't be long until it's the same over here, IMO.

Agreed. Talked about this with my wife. Run an old white dude(Biden) and win. Run ANY woman and lose. I hate to say it, but America isnt ready for a POC or woman as president. The repubs are still angry about Obama and a woman clearly can't win against even a deranged lunatic....twice.
