Today it begins, Kamala has reached the point that she's the Democratic Party nominee:

There's video from today. this link has video from her first public appearance since Biden endorsed her:

She spent yesterday on the telephone for most of the day. I read that yesterday that she called the party leaders in all 50 states. That would take me three days.

She's renamed her YouTube channel, that's the where to go for video: https://www.youtube.com/@kamalaharris

This is her video on her channel from two hours ago:

To play it, start it, and then move it up to 5:47. This was one of those live videos which don't start at zero.

I've named this thread General Election 2024 Harris vs Trump

Trump needs an introduction post as well, a MAGA suporter ought to write it: @Farb, @SaintForLife , @Others, calling for someone to please introduce your GOP candidate for this 2024 general election thread.

I'm here hoping The People do the right thing.
This delusion needs to go away. This is the last hurdle. No one has the pull Trump has on the GOP lunatics.

One of the down sides of being in MX, everyone wants to talk U.S. politics with me, and they don't have any sort of understanding of what's going on in U.S. politics.

I find it really hard to predict this one. On the one hand, Trump should lose and lose bigly. He's a terrible person, he lost last time, he's - somehow - been getting worse, and it's almost impossible to see how he wouldn't do worse this time around with abortion rights being an increasing factor.
This is where I'm having trouble connecting the dots. Biden did not win in 2020 because he was a "great" candidate......he won because a large amount of voters went to the polls to vote against Trump. Now, after all that's happened since the 2020 election, America will now vote the guy back in??? Make it make sense.

I would have preferred him win in 2020 and be done with him now. January 6th didn't have to happen. All the election seeds of doubt would not have been planted.

I feel the same. It won't stop the movement, but no current Maga leader has Trumps charisma. Who is going to take
over once he's gone? It certainly won't be JD Vance. Last poll I saw Harris led him by almost 20% if the election had
    been between She and him.

The death of MLK didn't stop the civil rights movement, but it crippled it for decades.

Yeah, "bless his heart" JD Vance is a goober - he has no charisma, no style points whatsoever. Sooner or later someone will get the formula right, but I do think a lot of it is unique to Trump. Politicians are typically poor showmen, and so much of Trump's "thing" is showmanship coupled with malignant narcissism.

Battleground state election officials say their offices have prepared for a swift certification process — and warn of consequences for any county officials who try to disrupt it.

Some states have already drafted legal filings and are ready to immediately head to court to force any county to certify its results if it tries not to. Others are threatening criminal prosecution for local officials who delay the process — pointing to a handful of cases already underway.

The effort to preempt county-level certification fights comes amid fears that allies of Donald Trump would try to overturn the election if he loses. The former president has ramped up attacks on the election system — particularly in the swing state of Pennsylvania — and a handful of counties have tried to refuse certifying their results in recent elections.

“If you don’t certify an election at the county level, or certify a canvas, you’re going to get indicted,” said Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes. “We’ve sent, on top of that, some what I would call sternly-worded letters out to folks to let them know.”

Election certification had long been a publicly overlooked part of the process, with local and state officials affirming the results of the election long after the winner was known. The important but largely clerical function was thrust into the spotlight after Trump lost in 2020 and his allies desperately looked for ways to keep him as president.

In 2020, Republican members of Wayne County, Michigan, which includes Detroit, briefly voted not to certify results — under pressure from Trump himselfbefore abruptly changing course. In 2022, a few counties in Arizona, Pennsylvania and New Mexico initially did not certify results or did so with incomplete results.

Officials and watchdog groups fear those incidents were only a dress rehearsal should Trump lose the election Tuesday. In the last four years, more than 30 county officials have voted to either block or delay certification, according to a report from Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a liberal watchdog group — with worries that many more local officials are quietly waiting in the wings to do the same in the upcoming weeks.

Election officers from across the country say they’ve been preparing contingency plans if a county tries to slow down certification. Top election officials in battleground states say they’ve game-planned various options and warned potential defectors of consequences if they try to gum up the certification process...........

I stole this from the internet but I'm nauseously optimistic. All the data analytics I've been following point to a Harris win, with a Harris blowout (ie greater than 300 electoral votes) more likely than even a narrow Trump win.

Trump has done nothing but lose since 2016, and he's just gotten worse. His entire strategy this go around was to get low turnout, low information males to turn out more, but his ground game sucks.

The obvious reason to vote for Harris is for women's rights, but today we also have to vote for the following:

Do we want higher tariffs which is essentially a tax on consumers and will lead to retaliatory tariffs against our products?
Do we want to deport millions of immigrants, which will blow up inflation and cause many civil rights violations of citizens?
Do we want a president with conflicts of interest like his social media and crypto currency which foreign countries can manipulate?
Do we want to stand up for Western societies and support NATO, which is the greatest organization of countries that have maintained stability?
Do we want to become allies with China, Russia and North Korea?
Do we want to widen the wealth gap?
Do we want a government whose agencies achieve their purpose to protect Americans or agencies that are led by people determined to undermine their purpose?
Do we want to continue to make progress on climate change and the new economy of green products?
Do we want to stand up for the rule of law and accountability?
