Today it begins, Kamala has reached the point that she's the Democratic Party nominee:

There's video from today. this link has video from her first public appearance since Biden endorsed her:

She spent yesterday on the telephone for most of the day. I read that yesterday that she called the party leaders in all 50 states. That would take me three days.

She's renamed her YouTube channel, that's the where to go for video: https://www.youtube.com/@kamalaharris

This is her video on her channel from two hours ago:

To play it, start it, and then move it up to 5:47. This was one of those live videos which don't start at zero.

I've named this thread General Election 2024 Harris vs Trump

Trump needs an introduction post as well, a MAGA suporter ought to write it: @Farb, @SaintForLife , @Others, calling for someone to please introduce your GOP candidate for this 2024 general election thread.

It matters because she was gaining ground due to Trump not apologizing about the Puerto Rican comment, and this will neutralize that gain, unless she confronts it. It will be worse than the deplorable comment unless she confronts it.
You've made it very clear that that's your opinion on the matter.

I’ve heard interviews of Puerto Ricans today saying they are mad that he didn’t apologize much sooner. They were mad it took 2 days for the campaign to even somewhat distance itself.
Get some perspective and think this through.

Puerto Ricans are mad at Trump because Trump's guy called Puerto Rico garbage.

Biden called those who support that belief garbage.

Now explain why the people mad at Trump's guy for calling Puerto Rico garbage is going to be mad at Harris for Biden saying those who support the "Puerto Rico is garbage joke" are garbage?

It's like you're saying blacks are mad because someone called them the N word and blacks are going to be equally mad at some white guy who said that the guy who called them then N word is white trash. Is that really how you see this playing out?

It’s not about MAGA voters. It’s about the right leaning undecideds coming to the conclusion that she is also garbage for not clearly denouncing that comment. Her campaign has tried to be different than Trump’s hatefilled campaign, but she is associated with Biden and she has to address the mess-up.
I'll give you credit for being tenacious.

Oh come on, you're better than that. You can't worry about what standard the hold themselves to or what double standard they hold themselves to. You hold yourself and the people you support accountable. As long as you do that, how they behave shouldn't affect you.

The media is gonna focus on what's sensational. It sucks, but that's more a symptom of our society and how we consume news.

From a purely strategic standpoint, what Joe said was poor form. He may or may not have meant it, but for a guy with as many years of politics and election strategy, he should recognize what he said wasn't good. He or his team recognized it and acknowledged it was a mistake.

Certainly some are going to milk it for all its worth because that's what they do, but Joe can support Harris and spin a positive message about her campaign and let others say what they want about MAGAidiots and Trump.

Life ain't fair, but we should still do what's right even if others aren't held to the same standard.
Biden misspoke and he did what was right by cleaning it up. Harris doesn't have anything to make right.

The interpretation comes down to whether or not an apostrophe is understood in “supporter’s”. Biden cleaned it up to say that is how it was intended.

The people who want to light their hair on fire about this aren’t going to read it with the apostrophe, and it’s not going to matter what Biden or Harris say.

It’s also not going to matter much by Thursday morning unless we’re about to hit a lull in this election **** show.

I think it’s being underestimated just how many people in this country believe Trump and his cult are, in fact, a garbage factory.
Trump going berserk on social media because of his crowd size envy is probably going to dominate the news and social media on Wednesday and Thursday.

I believe that. And I’m tired of trying to be sensitive to their feelings. If they think I think they’re stupid or ignorant, or condescend to them, so be it.
All people are welcome, but not all behavior is. Trump and Republican behavior is not welcome or acceptable. As soon as they drop that behavior, they are welcome to participate. Until then, they can stand alone in the corner.

Hopefully the twin horrors that Trump is promising - to put RFK Jr in charge of the food and medicine and put Musk in charge of the economy is breaking through. Rfk, jr. is promising to bring all his crazy anti-vax and anti-medicine ideas to everyone and Musk is promising that everyone will have to suffer financially for a while.

OK - I heard about Biden's statement and I was at first annoyed b/c it was counter to a very, very good Harris speech. Then I actually listened to it, and to me it was clear that he wast talking about Trump and his supporters demonization of minorities. He issued a statement shortly thereafter to clarify it, but I think anyone just listening to his full statement in good faith would have gathered that.

I actually don't think anyone should dwell on it -- it would only further muddy the waters.

The only thing in my mind is, it probably means the Harris campaign was right to keep Joe sidelined. I was feeling a bit bad for him, b/c he's been an above average President and he deserves a victory lap -- but he's gaffe prone, and they were right to not highlight him.

Yes.

If the Democrats do not win this election, they will have themselves to blame for it. There's no way Joe was not showing signs of slowing down (bigly) mentally. The debate disaster was actually a blessing, because if he would've had a gaffe late in the game, they never could have pivoted to Harris. The mistake is not telling Joe to sit it out and let America decide who would run against Trump. There's a 5% chance or less that Harris would be the nominee if the country had regular primaries. Just my opinion.

I’m in agreement with this guy.

Yeah I'm at a point where deporable isnt a strong enough word. If you are upset enough to change your vote because biden called them garbage, perhaps, biden isn't the problem. Maybe...just maybe, we should level the standards.

Case in point, don't call them garbage when they are racist? Don't call them garbage when they are misogynist? Don't call them garbage when they are rapists? Bad behaviors won't stop when you cover your ears and eyes. Call them out for that crap. I say this type of behavior, a negative reinforcement... of having a double standards and being AFRAID of what these deplorables think...it gives them more confidence to continue with their bad acts. Grow a damn spine. Don't give in to this faux outrage. The narrative has and always been driven by these aholes after they do some wacky unacceptable acts. Agree with biden, because calling all puerto ricans garbage, is garbage behavior. Let's not fall into this trap again by over reacting. <cough> biden has dementia <cough>

my sentiment exactly. The folks outraged are the core support- they just have the largest mouths to scream.

The folks who, by this lone comment, are now casting vote for Trump, were going to cast that vote for Trump anyway. Its really that simple.

Trump calls the US a "garbage can" and yet his supporters dont realize they are NOT the "eclair hovering like an angel, above the garbage" -

It's crazy isn't it? No matter what trump says, these same critics won't gasp and lower their eye brows the thousands or more times he says despicable things. The fear isn't, how will people who find trump's comments distasteful vote. Nah, it's trump being trump. But when Biden does anything, it's oh trump voters will now not vote for biden? Huh? We can both sides everything!!!! But not when dems call point out garbage behaviors.

What it actually comes down to. If you’re one of the people inclined to both-sidesing, the good news is you don’t have to vote for Biden or Trump.
