Today it begins, Kamala has reached the point that she's the Democratic Party nominee:

There's video from today. this link has video from her first public appearance since Biden endorsed her:

She spent yesterday on the telephone for most of the day. I read that yesterday that she called the party leaders in all 50 states. That would take me three days.

She's renamed her YouTube channel, that's the where to go for video: https://www.youtube.com/@kamalaharris

This is her video on her channel from two hours ago:

To play it, start it, and then move it up to 5:47. This was one of those live videos which don't start at zero.

I've named this thread General Election 2024 Harris vs Trump

Trump needs an introduction post as well, a MAGA suporter ought to write it: @Farb, @SaintForLife , @Others, calling for someone to please introduce your GOP candidate for this 2024 general election thread.

Because a lot of abortions are a medical necessity as opposed to voluntary. Abortion bans take away the choice of abortion even when it's a medical necessity. Most people only think of voluntary abortions when they hear the word abortion, so I think it's good to avoid using the word. It neutralizes the argument that pro-choice people are only fighting for the right to "voluntarily kill babies in the womb." That's only one part of the rights that people are fighting for women to have.
Nobody wants to kill babies. They’re not babies.

I agree which is why I used quotation marks. I do appreciate your clarification for anyone who didn't get what the quotation marks meant. I also edited the last line of my post to make it clear that no one is fighting for the right to kill babies.

his twitter algo is soooooo lopsided, he couldnt even FIND these if he tried.
I think everything we get from SFL either comes from his Twitter feed - which is obviously a complete shirt show judging from who he quotes on here - or Facebook. That wonderful source of unbiased independent reporting. 🤦‍♀️🤡

He won’t say where else he gets his BS from, so 🤷‍♀️

I meant the change in Robert Byrd, whose death was mourned by the NAACP. Are the things he did later in life, the changes he made, something we should ignore or something we should take into consideration?

He knows about this. He doesn’t care. If someone he likes is a racist - as Trump and Kennedy most assuredly are - he’s fine with that. But if a Dem was a racist and then repented and spent the rest of their life making up for previous racism he will still gladly use prior racism to smear someone who was never in the KKK. Because the racism itself Just. Doesn’t. Matter. To him. Not one little bit.

Oh, this is too precious. The Trump campaign is actually doing an ad buy in FL - but just for the West Palm Beach area. Their candidate is such a soft and fragile baby that they have to mollify him by showing him his own ads. You just cannot make this weirdness up!

At what point do you consider it a baby? For me it’s a heartbeat.
For me it’s when it can survive on its own. Before that it is essentially a potential life - not a baby, not a person. The mother holds all say-so over her body until it actually contains another person.

Fun fact - the “six week” heartbeat isn’t really a heartbeat. There isn’t any circulatory activity. What there is is a clump a several cells who have started contracting in unison. No heart exists at that point, no veins or arteries, no blood.

Also a fun fact - nobody who holds my view (or actually anybody in the world) will ever force anyone else to adhere to it. If you want to consider a group of 8 cells a “baby” and treat it that way - good for you. I wouldn’t ever force you to do otherwise. Nobody will ever force a person to have an abortion.

All we ask is the right to have dominion over our own bodies and our own medical decisions.

Trump chicken-ing out.

Their social media game is night and day compared to Biden's and they aren't pulling any punches. I think that's what has Trump scared the most.

That's brilliant, but I'm very biased because I wrote something very similar in one of my pilot scripts about 6 years ago regarding a Trump inspired character. If anyone reads my script now, they'll think I got the idea from Harris-Walz. I'm so happy to see them do it that I can live with people thinking I'm a copy cat.

Just so you're better informed. Actually, Trump wants the microphones not to be muted so he can talk over Harris. Trump's entire life says he's speaking the truth when he says that. It's Trump's team that doesn't want Trump to have the microphones muted so Trump can't speak over Harris.
When did you start believing Trump? It is unlikely that he wants the microphones on, because he knows it will hurt him, but he would sound like a coward if he admitted that. Obviously that is speculation, but what he says is meaningless, because he doesn't say what he thinks half of the time.

I know it will be less substantive if the mics are live, so I want them muted. Whether he keeps talking while Harris speaks is irrelevant, as long as I can hear Harris. It may be distracting, but she needs to tune it out. You asked in another post if I have ever tried to concentrate on what I was saying while others spoke over me, and the answer is I have done that many times, and normally I have been able to concentrate on my point. Everyone already knows what Trump is. If it is meant to be a meaningful exchange, then the mics shouldn't be live. I'm not in favor of a sideshow just to embarrass Trump. I think that is cynical, and doesn't serve the country. People should hear what they both plan to do. I believe Harris should be able to win that debate, but if Americans want what Trump is offering, then we're probably doomed, but that is democracy for now.

Trump went to Arlington today and pretended he gives a single damn about fallen military. We know he holds them in contempt. Here’s one former R take on it. Plenty feel the same way:

From a veteran:

Also, if 13 died during the evacuation, how many would've died over the last 3 years if we had not evacuated? We lost 19 in 2018, 26 in 2019, and 11 in 2020 for a total of 56, so arguably Biden probably saved over 40 American lives by withdrawing.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/262894/western-coalition-soldiers-killed-in-afghanistan/

It is true the evacuation wasn't executed well, but it is also true that Trump set it up to fail by closing many bases that allowed the Taliban to regain most of the territory before Biden took office.

Also, war is always unpredictable, and no one predicted the sudden collapse of the Afghan government. If the government had offered slightly more resistance, there wouldn't have been any American deaths, and most of our allies would've gotten out.

Ummm, Harris kept Biden's entire campaign team including the social media team and campaign manager as her own. Harris is just going in a completely different direction than her boss.

The difference is that much of Trump's media presence is driven by paid actors or bots, while the supporters of Harris and Walz are mostly genuine individuals who have grown tired of Trump and his associates. Derogatory one-liners are more likely to be blocked, making them ineffective, and this applies to both sides. However, since these comments predominantly originate from the MAGA side, their impact will be significantly diminished.

I believe Trump's actions throughout his life more than his words, as I do with every person. Trump never shuts up, always talks over other people, and always demands to be heard. Trump doesn't ever want any microphone that he knows about to be muted, never ever never. You can keep trying to read Trump's mind all you want, just be careful you don't get lost in that melting maze. I'm sticking with relying on Trump's entire lifetime of behavior, because actions speak louder than words.

Well, this seems like a great idea
========================

Donald Trump is vowing to end the Biden administration’s wide-reaching efforts to curb abusive policing, promising if he returns to the White House to rein in federal oversight of local law enforcement and empower officers to aggressively “clean up” American cities.

Among the changes Trump has promoted: allowing the use of stop-and-frisk to interrogate suspects, rescinding a Biden administration ban on the transfer of military equipment to local police departments, deputizing local officers to enforce immigration laws, and deploying the National Guard to fight crime.

“The Democrat party has a war on with police,” Trump said at a campaign rally last month in Charlotte. “We will give our police back their power, protection, respect that they deserve.”

On the campaign trail and in meetings with supporters, Trump has signaled his intent to curb federal monitoring of local police and to withhold funds from departments unwilling to employ more confrontational tactics, according to people who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss private conversations………

Trump has garnered support from many police groups, in part by promising to strengthen qualified immunity to shield officers from civil liability for their actions.

“We’re going to indemnify our police so when they do the job they won’t lose their pension, their family, their life,” he said at a May fundraiser in Texas, according to donors who were there.

He has detailed plans on his campaign website to direct the Justice Department’s civil rights division to investigate “radical, Marxist” state prosecutors whom Republicans accuse of failing to bring nonviolent drug cases or other low-level charges that have disproportionately been prosecuted against racial minorities……
