Today it begins, Kamala has reached the point that she's the Democratic Party nominee:

There's video from today. this link has video from her first public appearance since Biden endorsed her:

She spent yesterday on the telephone for most of the day. I read that yesterday that she called the party leaders in all 50 states. That would take me three days.

She's renamed her YouTube channel, that's the where to go for video: https://www.youtube.com/@kamalaharris

This is her video on her channel from two hours ago:

To play it, start it, and then move it up to 5:47. This was one of those live videos which don't start at zero.

I've named this thread General Election 2024 Harris vs Trump

Trump needs an introduction post as well, a MAGA suporter ought to write it: @Farb, @SaintForLife , @Others, calling for someone to please introduce your GOP candidate for this 2024 general election thread.

I think it's more that, generally, people tend to unite behind a leader in a time of crisis... assuming that leader actually tries to unite people and shows, you know, leadership in addressing the crisis. Had he done that, he could perhaps have won in spite of everything that went before it.

Of course, Trump went with the approach of ignoring it, imagining it'd just disappear "like a miracle", literally saying he doesn't "take responsibility at all", declaring PPE like masks voluntary and saying he wouldn't be doing it in April, speculating at a White House briefing about injecting disinfectant inside, holding crowded rallies just months into the pandemic long before any vaccination was available at all and at which people inevitably took no protective measures like masking, with some of them consequently dying from Covid (Herman Cain being probably the prime example of that), and - to be fair - finally encouraging people to wear masks in July... before continuing to ridicule wearing them including in a presidental debate in September.

But had he not done any of that and instead done just the very basic stuff of 'being a leader in a pandemic' that virtually anyone else could have managed, yeah, it probably would have helped him.
Piggy backing on this, I remember trump voters forgave him on the economy despite high unemployment and a recession with one particular Hispanic man who was interviewed on npr. The idea was the economy was doing great before the pandemic and they view it to be out of trump's control. Incumbency advantage.

Not inconceivable is different than coasting to victory

And here is the flip side of that argument

Trump got millions more votes than he did in 2016

How many of those people were driven by anti-mask, anti-vax, anti-distancing, anti-school closures, etc.?

If Covid is handled much better what happens to those votes?

Not saying they’d vote for Biden, but maybe they aren’t angry enough to vote
Without Cheato, they wouldn't have been anti-mask, anti-vax, anti-everything. He's the one who told them to be that way. If he'd handled Covid like a sane human being or even a smart crazed wingnut, he'd have realized the one thing that pulls Americans together more than anything else is a foreign enemy. He could've pinned everything on the "virus from Chi-na", exhorted us to all pull together to defeat the "virus from Chi-na" and not only saved hundreds of thousands of lives, but won reelection handily.

Trump: Virtually 100% of the net job creation in the last year has gone to migrants In fact I've heard substantially more and actually beyond that number 100%. It’s a much higher number than that but the government has not caught up with that yet.

    Wait… what??? 🤣🤣🤣

More than 100% of net job creation has gone to migrants? Who is still listening to this guy?

How in this green earth can anyone listen to this moron speak and think he ought to have nuclear launch codes?

FWIW, my opinion is that there isn’t a “feud” between Biden and Pelosi. There may have been some hard feelings, but as evidenced by Biden’s joke above, he cannot deny it was the correct thing for him to step aside. I think I even saw a quote from him saying just that.

Media will always sensationalize things to a certain extent because that is what sells.

    So this happened:

I'm not a huge Michael Eric Dyson fan (not because of his views but I find him a bit pretentious) but I'm on his side on this

Intentional or not, saying 'Call her whatever you want" will absolutely mean that some will take that as permission to continue with the racist, sexist comments

And there is a definite racist undertone (many would say there's nothing 'under' about it) to refusing to pronounce her name correctly

I didn't see this live so I don't know if they ever circled back to the black woman selling confederate/MAGA merch story (which I was a bit interested in seeing)

And more of the "I didn't hear Trump say the thing that dominated the news for a week"

So let's just start calling her Noncey Mace. She'd be cool with that, right?

I don't think it's the media. Pelosi has hinted at it herself that they're not on good terms.

    From Mark Cuban

Which Pro Business candidate said this in a Speech this week ?

“I will focus on cutting needless bureaucracy and unnecessary regulatory red tape.

    Encouraging innovative technologies,
    while protecting consumers.

And creating a stable business environment with consistent and transparent rules of the road.

As President, I will bring together
labor, small businesses, and major companies, to invest in America.

    Create good jobs.

    Achieve broad-based growth.

And ensure that America continues to
define the future and lead the world.”

Apparently, Trump is bringing in Tulsi to help prep for the debate with Harris. I guess he is hoping she can help re-live 2019 when Harris was handled pretty handily in that debate.

mostly what i see them saying is y'all misunderstood what he was saying.. you know that whole line..
The thing here is....the point he was trying to make was not a horrible point to make. But, Trump can't speak with any kind of nuance, and he can't speak in terms that don't make everything he does the best, most amazing things to ever have been done. This is just another example of Trump's inability to speak well, coupled with a complete blindness to the concept of service.

Here’s a seasoned oil and gas executive to explain why Trump is completely full of shirt when he talks about cutting energy prices like he has started to do. He will say anything to be elected right now, even colossally stupid stuff.
