As we head toward the summer and the National Party Conventions, it might be handy to have a thread focused on the upcoming matchup of current President Biden vs Former President Trump.
As of April 28,2024 , CNN's poll shows Trump leading. Yet polls are not always accurate and they are constantly changing.
Feel free to use this thread for all things relating to Biden vs Trump.

For people who want to play around with these things here is the 538 election forecast page:

It’s a close race, per their simulator.

“Biden wins 54 times out of 100
in our simulations of the 2024 presidential election.
Trump wins 46 times out of 100.”

This race is over... the sharks are circling... the only question is who will actually run in Joe's place so that the down ballet Dems don't get swept as well. Time to face the music.

And if Trump loses in four months, which very much a good possibility, their will be another conspiracy against Trump.

I think Biden would have to thread a very small needle, but he does have a path to victory. It would rely upon him at the least neutralizing the damage he did in the first debate by making regular appearances and avoiding anything similar, which I honestly don't know that he could do -- even a single appearance in line with his debate performance would be a potential death blow.

But the other options don't look viable at this point. If he was going to step aside the decision needed to have been made at least a year ago to open up the primary process. Without an open primary, it would almost certainly mean that Harris would be the nominee, and to be frank I have trouble seeing a minority woman being elected to the U.S. presidency. So that would probably just be rearranging deck chairs.

So then you have to come up with a scenario that Biden checks his ego and steps aside, and Harris checks her ego and steps aside (and does it in a way so as not to seem she was pushed out, even though she was, potentially alienating a good chunk of the party base), allowing a yet unnamed politician to claim the spot at the top of the ticket, where they would have about three months to establish a national profile and smooth over any intra-party strife following Biden and Harris' exits, doubtlessly in the midst of lawsuits over access to campaign funds, ballots, etc.

Compared to the needle Biden has to thread, that needle is microscopic.

Lots can happen between now and November, but it doesn't look good for Democrats right now. Women and minorities will have to bail out the country if there's any chance at taking down Trump. Democratic ticket has to be finalized yesterday and unity behind a candidate STAT. There's still time to gain ground.

I agree. And to be clear, I think the infighting going on amongst democratic voters is completely valid and understandable considering what’s at stake. Some people are saying there’s no issue, some people are saying there are massive issues, some are in between…but id say the vast majority if democratic voters will vote Biden or whoever the candidate is in November. No question.

The real issue of infighting as it has any real effect on this election, and this is just my opinion, is amongst Democratic politicians who’s questioning or calling out other people or whatever is much more impactful than what a few Joe and Jane schmo’s on a message board say.

It’s never been about a “dump Biden” crowd. I might have the opinion that we need to in order to have a candidate best suited to beat Trump in November, but I’m also not going to not vote for Biden if he’s the guy when the election rolls around. Rest assured for those getting antsy, most others probably won’t act differently.

Once more; i believe that it’s not the PEOPLE that are the problem here, if there’s a problem to be had as it relates to election chances. I would direct that anger to our representatives.
yea, the MAGAs thought process is you either LOVE Trump or you aren't a republican. there is no room for critical thinking. Where as most Democrats, they will critisize where they see fit. because MAGAs cannot do that, they confuse the conversations Demzs are having about Biden as all or nothing, and it simply isn't the case. those ones saying he needs to step down are still gonna vote for him..

I am saying there is no path to a 2024 DEM Presidential Win... To much un-seeable stuff has happened and momentum is a thing.... The sharks that are circling Biden Camp now (Schiff, Schumer, Nancy, Obama surrogates, donors, etc) understand that... and they want to get him off the ticket so they don't lose House and Senate seats down ballet. Dems can't let their whole ship go down with an 81 year old captain that wasn't steering the ship anyway, and isn't the future of that ship anyhow... The music is playing, time to dance or go home.

Agreed. Biden has made it clear he's not leaving, so unite behind him and turn the attention back toward Trump. He's still the same dishonest, corrupt, divisive person he's always been and a second Trump administration would be a return to the daily chaos and insanity that voters had enough of and rejected in 2020.

It still boggles my mind that after he literally tried to lie and steal his way to a second term after the 2020 election that this country could turn around and reelect him four years later.

Our electorate has always been... not smart.

This sounds awfully familiar to the 2022 Red Wave

The "Redwave" wasn't getting the panicked, must-act-now thwarting attention of Mega donors, Obama surrogates, Nancy, Chuck, Schiff, and the like.... This is different... This is a call to save the ship and scuttle the captain... Denial at this point is the enemy of reality.

He’s got a core base that worships him because he’s a “successful businessman.”
A successful businessman that represents rural America.
Which is ironic because Trump Tower is still in NY.
There is no way Trump would build a Trump Tower in rural America.
