NEW YORK (AP) — President Joe Biden begins an intense period of private preparations Friday at Camp David for what may be the most consequential presidential debate in decades.

The 81-year-old Democrat’s team is aware that he cannot afford an underwhelming performance when he faces Republican rival Donald Trump for 90 minutes on live television Thursday night. Biden’s team is expecting aggressive attacks on his physical and mental strength, his record on the economy and immigration and even his family.

Trump, 78 and ever confident, will stay on the campaign trail before going to his Florida estate next week for two days of private meetings as part of an informal prep process.

The former president’s allies are pushing him to stay focused on his governing plans, but they’re expecting him to be tested by pointed questions about his unrelenting focus on election fraud, his role in the erosion of abortion rights and his unprecedented legal baggage.

Thursday’s debate on CNN will be full of firsts, with the potential to reshape the presidential race. Never before in the modern era have two presumptive nominees met on the debate stage so early in the general election season. Never before have two White House contenders faced off at such advanced ages, with widespread questions about their readiness.

And never before has a general election debate participant been saddled with a felony conviction. The debate-stage meeting comes just two weeks before Trump is scheduled to be sentenced on 34 felony counts in his New York hush money trial.

“You can argue this will be the most important debate, at least in my lifetime,” said Democratic strategist Jim Messina, 54, who managed former President Barack Obama’s 2012 campaign.

    PRESSURE ON BIDEN

The ground rules for Thursday’s debate, the first of two scheduled meetings, are unusual.

The candidates agreed to meet at a CNN studio in Atlanta with no audience. Each candidate’s microphone will be muted, except when it’s his turn to speak. No props or prewritten notes will be allowed onstage. The candidates will be given only a pen, a pad of paper and a bottle of water.

There will be no opening statements. A coin flip determined that Biden would stand at the podium to the viewer’s right, while Trump would deliver the final closing statement.

The next debate won’t be until September. Any stumbles Thursday will be hard to erase or replace quickly.………..

Biden called in to MSNBC's "Morning Joe,"
"I'm getting so frustrated by the elites ... the elites in the party who — they know so much more," "Any of these guys don't think I should, run against me: Go ahead. Challenge me at the convention."

My thoughts: Do I know if this is the best decision right now? No I do not. I have many doubts. Doubts around if Biden sticking in the race only helps Trump more, and virtually seals the MAGA narrative and motivation. Doubts also about if Biden can lead this country as effectively due to him slowing down significantly. They are definitely concerns that many in this party have, and they are absolutely valid.

That being said, it appears Biden will be staying in the race. So of course, it’s important to vote like hell again this election cycle.

I think it’s time for the campaign to pull out an all out media assault on Trump and the christofascist MAGA agenda. Time for whatever helped Biden get to state of the union ready.

Less than 4 months till election. Gotta pull out all the stops. It’s gonna be a dogfight.

I contacted Adam Schiff at, contact@adamschiff.com

    I wrote this:

Hi, I'm quite upset. I think if Adam still wishes to receive my vote in November that he should back away from trying to overturn the results of the primary election where I voted for both him and Joe Biden.

If Biden / Harris are not on my ballot in November, I guarantee you I will not be able to find Adam Schiff's name on my ballot either.

    Good.

I could almost hear his sword clanking against his armor while he said that.

He sounded like my grandmother as we tried to take the phone from her when talking too long. Early, he was fine, but as Joe and Mika started questioning him, he clearly got agitated and started stumbling.

Are you for Project 2025's agenda or against?

If you're for it, it seems like your argument that it isn't "official" policy is an extension of Trump's ambiguity on actual policies. Not assigning any particular motive to you personally, but for Trump and the GOP, it seems like a way to mask intended policies that some voters they need might not like very much. That's why the latest news on the GOP platform is that they're trying to make it intentionally vague.

And if you're for it, why aren't you making a case for why it would be good instead of sidestepping it the way you're doing?

If you're against it, I'd like to think you would be more demanding of your candidate/party about what their "official" policies are.
I'm not sure if I'm for it or not yet. I've only seen some bullet points and haven't really looked into it yet. I understand why the left is familiar with it.

In general, I'm for reducing the size of government and spending, eliminating any unnecessary agencies, and anything that will rein in the out of control federal government.

Something has to be done with 35 trillion in debt and us supporting multiple wars.

Why do you think the Biden administration forgot to charge Trump with participating in a coup?

Tweeter said this to me this morning when I clicked on a Lakota Man tweet so that i could pickup the address, to bring it here.

"Hmm...this page doesn’t exist. Try searching for something else."

I tried several times, each time it would load what I as asking for, and then it would take that away, and insert that message. I'm not fooled, it loads the page, then says it can't find the page.

It turns out was a case of Lakota Man eracing his first post in light of new incoming news which made mooted his first post.

This is what Lacoda Man said which be then erased, I used copy and paste to get the text from Twitter, text which Twitter says doesn't exist:

"Burning the one Stephen King book I had. I would trash Rob Reiner’s stuff too but there’s nothing there except MEATHEAD."

This what Lakota Man said to replace it:

Lakota Man also says in follow up posts, that Rob Reiner also deleted his post where he called for Biden to step down.

Both Lakoda Man and myself have now totally forgiven Rob for having made that mistake.

Stephen King is still in my dog house.

Yesterday I mentioned that Bernie Sanders is standing behind Biden. Today I found the Face the Nation video of that:

    That was a robust endorsement.

    :)

I assume he meant to type stay in

It's a well known "rumor" that Obama did not back Biden in 2016 so he didn't run.

This attitude of holding grudges over competition for the party nomination needs to the end. That's really the issue that is causing problems.

The point is to find the best candidate, not to protect everyone's feelings.

The point is to accept election results, both primary and general election results, as final, not to try to overturn them when one doesn't like it.

This stinks of a January 6th kind of debacle. What the hell did they not learn?
