Election Night (+4) in America - Result: Biden Elected President (21 Viewers)

They made a larger effort to appeal to Republican voters in this cycle than I've ever seen, and Trump still won an even larger share of Republicans than he did in 2016.
Agree with the wider point, but on this, are those Republicans actually the same group? Or has Trump pushed people out of the Republican party altogether, redefining it?

If so, it wouldn't be that surprising that he's gaining a larger share, it'd be a party reshaped in his own image to an ever greater extent, and to gauge the success of efforts to win votes from the 2016 group you'd also have to look at independents.

This isn't a good look - why are they covering the windows? For fear that the workers will be intimidate when they go home tonight? I suppose that's reasonable but not a good look.

Ds votes 2:1 to Rs via MIV. I’m not sure there is enough out there.

its clear the media and observers are inside.

A bunch of yahoos looking to stir trouble can sit outside and wait.

Trump has filed a request with SCOTUS to stop the counting in Pennsylvania...

Yep, he's filed a motion intervene in the Pennsylvania case which was already pending in the Supreme Court.

I genuinely don't know what he's going to ask them for. An order that says that Pennsylvania can only count mail-in ballots for one day before they have to stop? When they were prohibited from state law by even beginning to count them until yesterday? I can't imagine how even this Supreme Court can entertain that with a straight face.

Oh shut up. :hihi: I don't want to hear another word of Trump in politics. Please NBC or whoever, let him do the Apprentice again or something. Just don't let him near the WH.
I hope Trump spends most of the rest of his life in courts, if not prison. I also hope we pass a lot of legislation to strengthen our checks and balances.
He's not going to shrink away quietly, and if other Republicans think that losing will get him to cede the spotlight they haven't been paying attention. I think criminal prosecution is about the only thing that could keep Trump from continuing to dominate the Republican Party, but short of a conviction he'll just claim any charges are fake news. Beyond that I have trouble seeing a former president going to jail (though in his case I'd really love to see it happen).

Im not going to totally disagree with you, but as hard as it is to do, insulting Trump voters is part of the problem. I used to be one and not every Trump voter is a racist or uneducated. That’s why they lie to pollsters. I think the key is finding the reasons why people still vote for him and figure out how to appeal to those reasons while building a wider and inclusive campaign that fixes some of the problems Trump has caused.
Then there has to be a message brings them out of that. I don't think that will happen though. The parties don't seem interested in a meeting of the minds, so I don't expect much to change when neither thinks they need to. Both sides (yeah, I know, I know) need to compromise for the sake of the country, but neither are really motivated to do so because they're content with where they are. I'm not sure the reckoning for either party has happened yet. It's just another march to the next election cycle. At least it feels that way to me. This election wasn't much of a mandate.

I don't know what the answers are though.

I get what y'all are both saying. When Trump was running 4 years ago, I used to insult Trump voters without thinking about it. I don't really do it any more just because it stopped being fun or funny to me.

I know a lot of Trump voters. Some are my friends. I've talked to them. Though some truly are, I don't think most are stupid, uneducated or racist. But there isn't anything I can say to them or any message that I could sell them that would change who they voted for. When I say it's a psychology that is impenetrable, I truly mean that. They really believe, deep in their hearts, that Democrats are evil and there polices would destroy America. Many of the Trump supporters I know are religious, and much of this comes from having it ingrained in them since little that the Democrats support abortion and abortion is an intrinsic evil. So the thinking goes if they can support this intrinsic evil, everything they want to do is evil. While some my not believe it to that extreme, that belief is so common that it keeps them bound. It take a lot to breakaway from that type of thinking when it's been ingrained in you, even if you yourself stop being religious.

The basic method has been talked about a lot. Never argue. Ask questions. Don't use data, talk values. You will never, ever get someone to say in a discussion, "You're right..." Instead you get them to confront what is an apparent contradiction in their own stated values on their own time, and they eventually drop their support.
God that seems to be a super long play for something that should just be logic!

I know I get it is like reasoning with an addict but man this is just logic.

Well, this will be a trip. From what I understand there is no law against counting ballots so long as they have been received by a certain time frame -- the time frame depends on state statute. The Supreme Court is deferring to whatever state statutes say but I have no idea about the specifics of the Pennsylvania law.

As far as disposition, I think Roberts and possibly Gorsuch want to be rid of Trump. Barrett potentially doesn't want to give off the vibe that she is beholden or quid pro quo as a launching to her Supreme Court career. So, whatever the state statute allows will be allowable. In the intervening years I expect you will see states amend/clarify the laws.

Supposedly the whole thing inside is being livestream for anyone who wants to watch.

Re-education camps??? I think we'd be covered from international law because we're not singling out a single ethnic group. I'm just kidding...kinda.

But seriously, no clue how to change the mindset of some of these people, their stance is only going to grow more rigid over time...trumpism and the GOP strategy to other-ize democrats will leave a stain on society for years to come.

They could start by saying "no, we are not socialists", even if they favor socialistic programs, instead of embracing the "democratic socialist" label, and not becoming a platform for the Bernie Sanderses of the world. But they were all falling over one another trying to out-woke the other.

Bringing back the Fairness Doctrine would help.

They are also concurrently going to be making an argument for recounts(extra days of counting) in other states.

Btw, this election should end the careers of Nate Silver, and Ana Narvarro.
