    Everything I've seen and heard says that the split second Donald Trump is no longer president there will be flood of charges waiting for him

    And if he resigns and Pence pardons him there are a ton of state charges as an understudy waiting in the wings if the fed charges can't perform

    What do you think the likelihood of there being a jail sentence?

    In every movie and TV show I've ever seen, in every political thriller I've ever read about a criminal and corrupt president there is ALWAYS some version of;

    "We can't do that to the country",

    "A trial would tear the country apart",

    "For the nation to heal we need to move on" etc.

    Would life imitate art?

    Even with the charges, even with the proof the charges are true will the powers that be decide, "we can't do that to the country"?

    If they have evidence of this why wouldn’t you pursue a civil suit?
    ================

    NEW YORK (AP) — The New York attorney general’s office late Tuesday told a court its investigators had uncovered evidence that former President Donald Trump’s company used “fraudulent or misleading” asset valuations to get loans and tax benefits.

    The court filing said state authorities haven’t yet decided whether to bring a civil lawsuit in connection with the allegations, but that investigators need to question Trump and his two eldest children as part of the probe.

    Trump and his lawyers say the investigation is politically motivated.

    In the court documents, Attorney General Letitia James’ office gave its most detailed accounting yet of a long-running investigation of allegations that Trump’s company exaggerated the value of assets to get favorable loan terms, or misstated what land was worth to slash its tax burden.

    The Trump Organization, it said, had overstated the value of land donations made in New York and California on paperwork submitted to the IRS to justify several million dollars in tax deductions.

    The company misreported the size of Trump’s Manhattan penthouse, saying it was nearly three times its actual size — a difference in value of about $200 million, James’ office said, citing deposition testimony from Trump’s longtime financial chief Allen Weisselberg, who was charged last year with tax fraud in a parallel criminal investigation……..

    Civil isn't here problem. That's Trump's problem and it's going to remain so for the rest of his life and his children's. The criminal repercussions from these have got to be his biggest fear.

    We’ll see where this goes
    ====================

    NEW YORK (AP) — For years, Donald Trump punctuated his reality TV spiels and presidential speeches with claims that his business and his many gold-plated properties were “huge,” “amazing,” the biggest and the best.

    Now the New York attorney general’s office says it has uncovered evidence that his comments were not just puffery for the public. The office’s civil investigation into Trump found that he and his company regularly fudged the value of assets on financial statements given to banks, insurers and tax authorities.

    But that doesn’t mean the Trump Organization will be shut down, Trump Tower padlocked and the former president hauled off to prison.

    Lawyers who examined the details of the allegations told The Associated Press that while Attorney General Letitia James could potentially bring a lawsuit alleging fraud, she will face two major hurdles: proving both an intent to deceive and that banks that loaned Trump money were actually fooled.

    “Were you sloppy, lazy or overoptimistic about your prospects? If you were, that may be bad business, but it doesn’t necessarily rise to fraud,” said Will Thomas, an assistant professor of business law at the University of Michigan……

    "Not guilty, Your Honor. I was simply sloppy, lazy and overly optimistic about the square footage of my penthouse to the point that it grew to three times its original size and I both saved millions in taxes and was granted billions in loans because of my laziness, sloppiness, and optimism in this and all of my other affairs."

    Give me a forking break. These aren't small errors we're talking about here.

    Ever take a business law class? They're typically taught by people who couldn't succeed in either business or law. This guy is an idiot.

    Are the walls finally closing in? Between this and the NY AG there quite a bit going on right now

    I'm ready to hear about some actual charges instead of hearing that 'there could be charges'
    =============================================

    The request from Georgia prosecutors for a special grand jury to assist in the election fraud investigation against Donald Trump shows the former president is under "substantial risk" of prosecution, according to a co-author of a report detailing his alleged crimes.

    Norm Eisen, senior fellow of the Brookings Government think tank, was reacting to the news Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis requested a special grand jury in her investigation of 2020 election interference.

    Willis has been looking into a recorded conversation between Trump and Brad Raffensperger, Georgia's secretary of state, in which the former president asked for him to "find 11,780 votes" in order to help him win the election.

    Eisen, who also served as special counsel to the House Judiciary Committee during the first Trump impeachment, said the move seems to confirm a Brookings Governance report released last September claiming Trump committed "multiple crimes" in his effort to overturn the 2020 Georgia elections results.

    "Fani Willis wants a special grand jury for her investigation. What does this mean for Trump? It confirms what we wrote in our report: he's at substantial risk of prosecution in GA," Eisen tweeted.

    The 114-page report concluded that Trump's post-election conduct in Georgia "leaves him at substantial risk of possible state charges predicated on multiple crimes," such as criminal solicitation to commit election fraud; intentional interference with performance of election duties; and conspiracy to commit election fraud..........

    In a civil matter, intent can be inferred and it would seem an easy inference that these sloppy, lazy and inaccurate valuations were intentional as the results ALWAYS inure to the benefit of the Trumps.

    You have to be guilty to go to jail not just accused.

    The wheels of justice are turning. Slowly, but inexorably.

    The investigators/prosecutors also have to have the balls to charge you.
    They only usually charge people for 2 reasons , they think your guilty and think they have enough evidence to win, or out of public demand and media hype. Such as with Rittenhouse

    Sometimes, as we've recently seen in Georgia, both are required.

    Plenty of people in jail waiting for their trial all over the country for all sorts of things.
    indeed and they have been charged but its not a indication they are guilty, most in jail that have been charges cant make bond or not allowed to have bond

    There are TONS of innocent people who are wrongly convicted, go to jail, and even prison.

    They are largely disproportionately minorities.

    Just look at Emmitt Till

    You just said that they have to be guilty to be sent to jail.
    no that not what I was trying to imply. You have to be guilty to do time aka arrested charges and tried.
    If you cant make bail you may or may not be guilty. But you can be held held till you are tried or make bail or released no bail. Thats how it works

    So you DON’T have to be guilty to be in jail.

    Thanks for admitting you were wrong. If only more Trump “intellectuals” would follow your lead and just say “yep! I was wrong and you guys were right. I am sorry for making such ridiculous claims.”

    Good for you and welcome to the board - no matter how long your stay

    Still inaccurate and ridiculous.

    There have been 289 post-conviction DNA exonerations in the United States

    There are absolutely people in prison in America right now that have been framed, mis-identified, had poor legal representation, or through some other circumstance found guilty of crimes they did not commit.
