Why? Because they don't align with your religious beliefs? That seems very 'un-american'

Again, show me someone, anyone that was prevented from voting by law........
Is that where we are going to draw the line? We are only going to take issue with attempts to disenfranchise voters once they actually prevent someone from voting? If a state does something that makes it markedly more difficult for a marginalized group to vote, but enough people speak up and get it corrected, we are not going to have an issue with that state's attempt because it was unsuccessful?

Here is a legitimate case in point, recent, and easily verifiable. Alabama passed a law requiring voter ID that went into effect in 2015. Shortly after the law went into effect, the state closed a significant number of DMV offices around the state for budget reasons. The overwhelming majority (over 75% if I recall correctly) were in areas that were minority areas. The net effect was that in order to get a valid ID to vote, these minority voters had to travel great distances (in some cases, it was over an hour and a half drive to an office that was open something like three days a month). Thankfully, enough people spoke up, and the state rectified the issue.

So, knowing that, are we not supposed to be outraged that a state took an action that made it much more difficult for minorities to vote in their state because they didn't get away with it?

So everyone was still able to obtain an ID and vote? How did those people without an ID open a checking account, drive, buy beer or receive a free and effective vaccine?

Requiring an ID is not voter suppression. It is racist to say that minorities can't figure out to obtain one.

If an ID is required to vote, shutting down DMV offices is equivalent to shutting down voting locations.

If they have to drive 20 miles to get an ID, it is equivalent to requiring them to drive 20 miles to vote.

So,!it wouldn’t be an attempt at voter suppression if Louisiana said thst everyon in your precinct, and only your precinct had to drive 200 miles on the second Tuesday of the month to an office that is open from 9am to 1130 am to get your required voter ID card, while everyone else could go to their local Circle K to get theirs?

It’s crazy to think that someone can look at a situation where minorities were singled out, had additional steps put in for them to get a required ID card, and say..”well, they still could get an ID so what’s the problem?”

And please….point out where I said that minorities could t figure out how to get one.

Oh please, you have no aversion to racism or the founder's vision of who would have the "right" to vote. There's no reason everyone who is entitled to vote couldn't vote from home and without taking off work. Some folk do not want universal participation. Same as it ever was.

You have not been in rural alabama have you? Waffle house is 20 mins away.

What is the time frame, 4 years? Too much to ask for the minorities? Racism of low expectations.

You are correct. I don't want universal participation. I would like to limit the voters to actual citizens.

Yea, I grew up in rural Louisiana, the gas station was 10 miles away.

Most rural people have access to a car for that very reason, they don’t have to take a 30 minute bus ride to get 5 miles from their home.

Umm…every few years when your license expires, every time you move, when you turn 18, etc.

How about we turn it around. Since you seem to think it’s ok to put additional requirements on minorities to vote, do you have ANY restrictions on that? What if they have to drive 500 miles to get an ID? What if they have to drive 100 miles each time there is an election?

In your opinion, as long as it’s POSSIBLE for a minority voter to get an ID, any requirements that they have that white voters do not are ok?

The real question is why do they not have an ID to begin with? If someone does not have enough sense to obtain a license, do they really need to be voting?

No you don’t. You don’t want all citizens to be able to vote. You’ve actually said it.

    There are no non-citizens voting.
I was referring to his post about universal representation. You are also correct. As I have said, a simple civics test would be a minimum requirement. Maybe a highschool diploma or a GED.
