It would be nice if Republicans worked to remove Trump as hard as they're working to remove Biden. They won't do anything to make their politicians more viable, acceptable and electable by the broader population.
A small but significant group of Republicans are trying to do just that, but the Republican leadership on the other hand. It's the same problem Democrats will have with trying to get Biden to step down. The leaders controlling the parties are the ones calling the shots.

Let me put it another way, Democrat voters have been concerned about Biden's age for a while. Many were hoping Biden wouldn't run again so that there could be an open primary. This has been known for over a year now and Biden's support had been lackluster because of it. After the bad debate performance, that has come to a head and now there are honest conversations (many in public) and concerns about Biden's ability to complete another 4 years as president and whether it better for Biden to continue running or to suspend his candidacy and step aside for another contender. There are many opinions and it's coming from all sides, but the point is there is open and honest discussion about it, not some propaganda filled alternate reality.

Republican and Republican voters on the other hand have known for four years that Trump was a horrible person and president. And yet, they decided to ignore the obvious, glaring deficiencies that make Trump a disastrous, dangerous and wholey unworthy candidate. They ignore (or support) Trump's lack of mental acuity, age, insurrection, criminal convictions, civil convictions, moral depravity, ineptitude, racism, ignorance, incivility, etc. I can literally go on for days with the things about Trump they ignore and just blame on liberal propaganda from corporate media. In otherwards, I wish they would spend as much time on their own candidates failings and unviability for the office of the presidency as they do on Biden or at least as much as Biden supports spend on their own candidate. Maybe if they cared about their candidate as much as Democrats fret over theirs, we wouldn't be in this mess at all.

If Trump had not been allowed to run again or wouldn't have won the primary, maybe Biden decides to hang it up earlier and we all would have two different candidates to choose from. But we can always trust Republicans to be so extreme in their agenda that they push everything to cliffs edge and threaten us all with destruction.

Certainly. I will say Republicans in power are afraid of losing that power if they speak out against Trump. I do think part of the issue is voters haven't ever really turned on Trump in the way that they should. But Republican leadership haven't really given them options either. I think both parties are guilty of this and while they're certainly not the same in terms of consequences, they both bear responsibility for their own candidates.

It's like the corruption scandals. Farb, and SFL only show up in the Democrat ones. Pizzagate shutdown the moment Trump was linked to Epstein.

It is hilarious to see Farb, and SFL attacking Joe Biden's senility while Trump rambles about sharks, and batteries. Every time they comment, I have to refrain from replying in all caps DOC RONNY JOHNSON

Should we change the name of this thread to the 'Biden Replacement Tracker'?

You do know he is leading the polls, right? So apparently he is electable by the broader population.

Is that why you disappeared for three weeks after the conviction? Trump was down in the polls?

I wasn't aware of there is a time clock on this board. Thanks for being the time cop on here, we all sleep better at night knowing you are keeping track of when people have time to log in! Keep up the good work.

You should go back and read the Trump trial thread. Your absence was noted, and mocked.

Ah yes, "THE POLLS"! May they be ever in your favor.

..........One debate may just be a bad debate. And Biden has a lifetime’s worth of friends and supporters who will stand by him no matter what. But America’s future is at stake, and voters are now legitimately questioning his ability to serve. Their fears are real, and can’t just be dismissed. For Democrats, the question isn’t just whether he can do the job. It’s whether he can do it better than anyone else.

In 2020, that was true. It may not be true in 2024. While he deserves every opportunity to prove himself, we can’t just accept his team’s assurances that everything is fine.

But there is something he can do to put all these doubts to rest and demonstrate that he can handle the job: Go the full McCain.

The late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), Biden’s good friend, was a master of the town hall and of speaking directly to the American voter. During his presidential campaign in 2000, McCain held 114 town halls — in New Hampshire alone.

McCain was famous for his candid, honest interactions with voters, so much so that his campaign bus was known as the Straight Talk Express. He didn’t hide the ball or his flaws. What you saw was what you got.

Yes, his unscripted answers sometimes got him into trouble. And people loved him for it.

Biden should follow McCain’s example. He should do three 90-minute town halls a week, every week for three weeks. Take unscripted, spontaneous questions from ordinary people. At the end of the process, America will know — and Biden himself will know — whether he is up to the challenge.

Yes, this would be physically and mentally demanding. But so is the presidency. And if he doesn’t feel he is up to having that conversation with American voters, then he’s not up to the task of being president.

There is no shame in stepping aside to save American democracy from the threat of Donald Trump and his plans for an all-powerful presidency — a presidency that the Supreme Court has now held will be above the law. Biden could become an American Cincinnatus, the man who saved the Republic not once but twice — first by having the courage to step into the arena, and then by having the wisdom to step out again...............
