Didn't really see a place for this so I thought I would start a thread about all things LGBTQ since this is a pretty hot topic in our culture right now

• The Supreme Court on Thursday delivered a unanimous defeat to LGBT couples in a high-profile case over whether Philadelphia could refuse to contract with a Roman Catholic adoption agency that says its religious beliefs prevent it from working with same-sex foster parents.
• Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in an opinion for a majority of the court that Philadelphia violated the First Amendment by refusing to contract with Catholic Social Services once it learned that the organization would not certify same-sex couples for adoption.

I will admit, I was hopeful for this decision by the SCOTUS but I was surprised by the unanimous decision.

While I don't think there is anything wrong, per se, with same sex couples adopting and raising children (I actually think it is a good thing as it not an abortion) but I also did not want to see the state force a religious institution to bend to a societal norm.

I believe the LGBTQIA crowd made that an issue once they realize there was no more to be gained with same sex marriage. And right on Q the Evangelicals went nuts.

It should really be common knowledge about how this became an issue. It's not exactly ancient history.

If you've been paying attention for the past decade or so, you really should know how this became an issue.

This came up a few years ago. I remember this because my dad boycotted target over their inclusion of gender neutral bathrooms or something. his stance was there should be 2 separate bathrooms for boys and girls! too risky! It was on NPR at the time, and the number of trans people doing something (exposing) themselves to others was very low. Like less than 1% of all incidents. Fast forward a few months later and he needed to use the restroom. Well the men's room was out of order so he casually walked into the women's one like no big deal. I tried to point out what he was doing, considering his previous stance. It didn't sink in

Pretty sure that Target was responding to Republican proposed bills in North Carolina.

If you refuse to date a transgender because she is not your type that is perfectly OK. However, if your reason not to date is because you are uncomfortable with transgender then you could be labeled a transphobe. If your excuse is that the transgender woman has a penis then that would be transphobia.

I realize you are a self-proclaimed first generation immigrant, but even by your own words you have lived here most of your life.

This happened in 2016. If you are old enough to have adult children, you should be aware of how we got here.

This is how democracy fails. People retain so little of information that politicians are able to create new issues with predictable poll numbers and convince the electorate that they are important. Then once the predictable lines are drawn, the low information people will mindlessly do their bidding as they become empowered by the support of people who see them as protecting them from something they didn't even realize was a threat.

Both sides, Both sides. There wasn't even a side until someone drew the line and convinced you to fight to hold it.

I admit I did not pay much attention to this bathroom thing because I thought it was silly BS. My concerns are generally about the economy, prosperity, jobs, employment, education , etc. I realize there is inequality, but that will sort itself out with technology.

It is silly BS. It was an issue created out of thing air, and now you are recognizing "both sides" of it as if they are equally valid.

In reality the pro-trans position on this micro-issue is to just go back to how it was handled 5 years ago.

I have a daughter. I would be extremely pissed if someone flashed her in a public restroom, regardless of which particular genitalia was actually flashed.

That said, I have absolutely no expectation that would happen.

THERE AREN’T URINALS IN THE WOMEN’S RESTROOMS.

My daughter will be in a stall. Presumably, a trans woman would also be in a stall. There’s just no opportunity for my daughter to see anyone’s genitalia that would not be illegal indecent exposure.

The same thing applies in the men’s room if you don’t want your son to see a vagina. People who don’t have penises don’t use urinals, therefore they would always use the stall. Therefore, zero chance of your son seeing a vagina.

So unless it is your accusation that trans people are going around flashing people in the sink area of the restroom (they’re not), the whole forking argument is ridiculous.

I got news for you, gjones, people who are flashers don’t care about the rules for bathrooms. The one time my little girl was threatened, it was because a couple of men followed her into a woman‘s bathroom at a ballpark. Luckily I noticed she didn’t immediately come out and went looking for her only to discover these two cowardly degenerates blocking her exit. They turned tail and slinked off when I appeared.

Gender specific restrooms only punish law abiding people who are transgender. They don’t do anything to decrease flashing crimes. Good lord, this is just common sense. Stalls are available in both types of restrooms.

However, I have one more question. Should transgender women be in the gym locker room where there are dozens of naked biological women? Is there the possibility the biological women may feel uncomfortable? I think that if the transwoman is fully transitioned it is unlikely there will be a problem,

Do you think children that have gender dysphoria should have surgery and hormone blockers? Why not wait until the get older. Many time these children are gay or lesbian and were simply confused.

Should there be a requisite to call people that have gender ambivalence "they" instead of "he" or "she"?
