Didn't really see a place for this so I thought I would start a thread about all things LGBTQ since this is a pretty hot topic in our culture right now

• The Supreme Court on Thursday delivered a unanimous defeat to LGBT couples in a high-profile case over whether Philadelphia could refuse to contract with a Roman Catholic adoption agency that says its religious beliefs prevent it from working with same-sex foster parents.
• Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in an opinion for a majority of the court that Philadelphia violated the First Amendment by refusing to contract with Catholic Social Services once it learned that the organization would not certify same-sex couples for adoption.

I will admit, I was hopeful for this decision by the SCOTUS but I was surprised by the unanimous decision.

While I don't think there is anything wrong, per se, with same sex couples adopting and raising children (I actually think it is a good thing as it not an abortion) but I also did not want to see the state force a religious institution to bend to a societal norm.

Is contempt necessarily hate? If you look at synonyms of contempt, they go from "pooh-pooh" to detest.

Fact is, the burning of a particular symbol is a hate act because you want it to be a hate act. In your view, there is no room for sentiments like disapproval or dislike, and probably you equate disapproval or dislike to hate. And you view everyone who doesn't agree with your ideology as a monolith of hate.

I doubt that you've noticed, but LGBTQ+ people and community receive a lot of hate just for existing.

I have noticed, yes.

It's gotten much worse in the last 8 years. I wonder if you've ever personally felt that type of hate in your life.

Hate as in a particular demographic wanting me dead? Yes.

If you had, you probably wouldn't be trying justify pride flag burning as possibility something other than the obvious hate it represents 99.9% of the time.

Even if I take your 99.9% at face value, it is not 100%, and you know what that means, right?

Fantastic. But just to clarify once again, my statement was that the act of burning a symbol, in this case a pride flag, isn't necessarily hate, not that it is or it isn't. But you can't see past your ideology.

I am not a fan of public schools. Why would you think I support I support them?

So, I wouldn’t take a kid to that kind of parade either. But I’m not willing to take away people’s rights, or threaten them or kill them over it. With all the actual physical sexual abuse of children going on in religious institutions, I don’t think this hyper-concentration on gay people is anything but a deflection tactic from religions. It’s a deliberate attempt at getting their own people to ignore what they are doing and focus blame and hate on an out group that has no real power. Meanwhile, they rake in the cash, and hide the abusers.

That's irrelevant. There was a time when some people were slaves, women couldn't vote or on property, same sex marriages were not allowed and so on.

Thanks for making it clear that what you want is to roll back the calendar to a time, in which the people you don't like and don't want to have equal rights, didn't have equal rights.
