Didn't really see a place for this so I thought I would start a thread about all things LGBTQ since this is a pretty hot topic in our culture right now

    https://www.cnbc.com/2021/06/17/sup...y-that-refuses-to-work-with-lgbt-couples.html

    • The Supreme Court on Thursday delivered a unanimous defeat to LGBT couples in a high-profile case over whether Philadelphia could refuse to contract with a Roman Catholic adoption agency that says its religious beliefs prevent it from working with same-sex foster parents.
    • Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in an opinion for a majority of the court that Philadelphia violated the First Amendment by refusing to contract with Catholic Social Services once it learned that the organization would not certify same-sex couples for adoption.

I will admit, I was hopeful for this decision by the SCOTUS but I was surprised by the unanimous decision.

While I don't think there is anything wrong, per se, with same sex couples adopting and raising children (I actually think it is a good thing as it not an abortion) but I also did not want to see the state force a religious institution to bend to a societal norm.

Under Musk rules are changed silently and to fit his personal whims. So much for transparency, right?

Many people hate taxes and don’t like Turbo Tax in particular, and Conservative Christian moms are not different- but not for the reason you think.

TurboTax released an advertisement featuring a same-sex couple, and conservative Christian moms were NOT happy.

The ad talks about activities people can do besides paying taxes. A few activities flash across the screen; one is a same-sex couple walking down the aisle. One Million Moms, a conservative Christian organization, took issue with this particular advertisement and is now trying to cancel the company.

"TurboTax should be ashamed of attempting to normalize sin by featuring two gay men getting married in their 2023 commercial, ‘Not Taxes.’ Obviously, TurboTax is promoting same-sex marriage to please a small percentage of customers while pushing away conservative customers."

    They continued,

"TurboTax is using public airwaves to subject families to the decay of morals and values while belittling the sanctity of marriage in an attempt to redefine family. Even though homosexuality is unnatural, this advertisement is pushing the LGBTQ agenda. An even greater concern is that the controversial commercial is airing when children are likely watching television. TurboTax crossed a line that never should have been crossed," the rant continues.

"TurboTax is glorifying sin, and no sin should be honored. One day we will answer for our actions or lack of them. We must remain diligent and stand up for Biblical values and truth. Scripture says multiple times that homosexuality is wrong, and God will not tolerate this sinful nature (Romans 1:26-27).".............

They should be shamed to call themselves christians..
We all know who REALLY indulges in the cancel culture the most. It isn't any "woke" people, its the pretend christians, ie, people like this and Desantis..

and when 'woke' people do partake it's against people who say things like "I just said that we should execute homosexuals and bring back slavery. Now I'm losing all my customers, I'm being cancelled!"

Maybe? I put it in quotes b/c some people think of the word test as a mechanical or single iteration measurement. I think either works for the general purpose when describing the thing one must do when deciding whether one should continue with gender care. I've used the word "test" to describe a process that one goes through to determine if a thing meets basic criteria in general engineering terms, but I guess it doesn't matter for the purposes of this discussion. Maybe an assessment would be a better word?
You are right in that the word doesn't matter. I just wanted to get a better picture in my head of the process.

And just to clarify, I was curious as to how the distinction between "I want to be" and "I am" can be made when dealing with a child, based on what the tweet said; it is, after all, a radical life changing event for a prepubescent child and the family of the child.

    What makes them pretend Christians?

Yes, and there is still research being done, and the protocol is being updated, and it isn't nearly at a finished point yet. However, most of the broad strokes have been consistent for a while now.

Supportive care for youths expressing gender dysphoria is highly, highly correlated with decreases in depression and suicidality. Supportive care usually takes the progressive forms of social transition (using preferred pronouns and names) first, and then for prepubescent children who have been seeking gender care for some period of time is given puberty blockers for a couple of years to delay puberty and allow them to make a decision when they are older and to continue overall therapy... for teens it eventually moves to hormone replacement therapy, and at least from what I've seen the endocrinologist won't prescribe that without first a full bloodwork analysis, and also a statement from a licensed therapist that appropriate discussions have been had, and then they start them off with a quarter dosage and then increasing gradually over the course of the year. All the time continuing discussions with the therapist and psychiatrist - to monitor effects on mood and to discuss emotional reactions to the hormones effects. Surgery is not on the table for minors, at least in my experience.

Does that mean that every doctor/therapist follows those protocols or agrees with them? No. You'll have a mix of quacks, and ideologically motivated individuals, and people who just genuinely disagree with the consensus/protocol in any scenario. But there is a generally agreed upon protocol on how to approach this with children, and it's been broadly stable for at least a decade now... the exact assessment questions, and length of time to wait between steps do not have a consensus yet, but the high level approach is nearing consensus.

This is generally born out by low rates of transition regrets (which is not 0 of course), and massive decrease in suicidality (although even after transition, transgender youth are at a higher risk than the general population).

And to bring it back to the political angle on this... obviously the national conversation is not very helpful to people experiencing gender dysphoria, and efforts to ban supportive care are straight up detrimental.

I do believe the state does have an interest in regulating medical care, but there should be a general process followed that relies more on "I don't understand/like this thing, therefore I won't let other people do it". Basically, I think the government should set up a process where medical procedures are approved, and those standards are applied equally across all medical procedures. And I'd imagine it would be something like - medical boards review x condition, and there have been y number of trials for each procedure, and x studies done, and etc, etc -- and then the medical experts approve the procedure. Obviously way simplified, but that's the general gist.

I don't think any medical procedure should be subject to direct approval by the government -- rather the government sets the safety standards, and then let the experts apply them. If the electorate is unhappy with the results, they can review the procedures on how they got there, but that's about it.

Florida’s Board of Education approved of an expansion of Governor Ron DeSantis’s “Don’t Say Gay” law that restricts instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity to all grades, the Associated Press reported.

The original law prevented lessons about sexual orientation and gender identity until the 3rd grade. But the new rules would expand the prohibition up until 12th grade as well, unless required by existing state standards or as part of reproductive health instruction that students can choose not to take……
