Didn't really see a place for this so I thought I would start a thread about all things LGBTQ since this is a pretty hot topic in our culture right now

    https://www.cnbc.com/2021/06/17/sup...y-that-refuses-to-work-with-lgbt-couples.html

    • The Supreme Court on Thursday delivered a unanimous defeat to LGBT couples in a high-profile case over whether Philadelphia could refuse to contract with a Roman Catholic adoption agency that says its religious beliefs prevent it from working with same-sex foster parents.
    • Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in an opinion for a majority of the court that Philadelphia violated the First Amendment by refusing to contract with Catholic Social Services once it learned that the organization would not certify same-sex couples for adoption.

I will admit, I was hopeful for this decision by the SCOTUS but I was surprised by the unanimous decision.

While I don't think there is anything wrong, per se, with same sex couples adopting and raising children (I actually think it is a good thing as it not an abortion) but I also did not want to see the state force a religious institution to bend to a societal norm.

I can see that from your side but my perception is from observing the 'left' in the last 5 years or so and yes, I have a very different political and cultural view than most. I freely admit that.
I think you mean you observe slivers of the left as shown to you by the right.

She is not wrong, by the data but she stole that from Bill Maher.
    That's just stupid.

    Key Findings

    • An estimated 3.5% of adults in the United States identify as lesbian, gay, or bisexual and an estimated 0.3% of adults are transgender.
    • This implies that there are approximately 9 million LGBT Americans, a figure roughly equivalent to the population of New Jersey.
    • Among adults who identify as LGB, bisexuals comprise a slight majority (1.8% compared to 1.7% who identify as lesbian or gay).
    • Women are substantially more likely than men to identify as bisexual. Bisexuals comprise more than half of the lesbian and bisexual population among women in eight of the nine surveys considered in the brief. Conversely, gay men comprise substantially more than half of gay and bisexual men in seven of the nine surveys.
    • Estimates of those who report any lifetime same-sex sexual behavior and any same-sex sexual attraction are substantially higher than estimates of those who identify as LGB. An estimated 19 million Americans (8.2%) report that they have engaged in same-sex sexual behavior and nearly 25.6 million Americans (11%) acknowledge at least some same-sex sexual attraction.

The reality is, same sex behaviors (probably that one time in college, or Republican orgies), are significantly higher than the number of gay, lesbian, or bisexual identified people. of that 3.5%, only about half is gay or lesbian. The rest are bisexual. And only 0.3% identify as transgendered.

No idea if that number is actually growing. I'm sure it would compared to years past, when people were more routinely beaten to death, or otherwise harmed just for being who they are. Now they're more likely to just say so.

But, I don't think 3-4 people out of a hundred are going to completely change our overall 'sexual makeup', especially since they usually aren't breeding. And transgendered are more like 3 out of 1000. And I'm sure the survey has a bias due to sampling.

That is a somewhat outdated study form 2011. Here is one from earlier this year by Gallop, with 2 interesting tables. It does show an increase in percentages of LGBT per generation. But it's also still true that the vast majority of people identifying as LGBT from the younger generation identify as Bi-sexual. It's also a lot more common among woman than men. If I had to offer a guess, I'd say most of those Gen Z that identify as Bi-sexual will end up in heterosexuals relationships/marriages.

The vast majority of Generation Z adults who identify as LGBT -- 72% -- say they are bisexual. Thus, 11.5% of all Gen Z adults in the U.S. say they are bisexual, with about 2% each identifying as gay, lesbian or transgender.

About half of millennials (those aged 24 to 39 in 2020) who identify as LGBT say they are bisexual. In older age groups, expressed bisexual preference is not significantly more common than expressed gay or lesbian preference.

I've noticed the trend of the right wing to try and divide of the LGBTQ community and turn them against each other with stories like this. That was a tactic the British perfected during its colonial era.
Explain the British colonial era tactic of propaganda?

So because there is a problem in a protected class community, any attempts to point it out is met with homophobia and transphobia?

This is not Jon Stewart or the British actor from Community so I am sure it is not acceptable on a political message board.

I think you mean you observe slivers of the left as shown to you by the right.
Maybe, I am pretty sure several of my friends and immediate family are far left, so if you want to classify them as 'right' that on you, but during our conversations they are pretty far left. But you might be on to something, but more than likely it is just your usual projection on what I should 'actually think'.

This woman is going to get re-elected. She won her primaries against 5 others which I assume were people (but I have my doubts).
I feel the same about the 'squad'. All are pandering to their bases and are dumb as rocks but they are politicians so to be expected.

Explain the British colonial era tactic of propaganda?
To create schism and play up differences in colonial societies to get the factions fighting among themselves so that a smaller group of colonist could rule.

So because there is a problem in a protected class community, any attempts to point it out is met with homophobia and transphobia?

It's more of an attempt to weaken the LGBTQ community and it's political power/social influence by amplifying very small stories that drive division and separation within the LGBTQ community and turning LGBTQ people into disenchanted/disinterested voters.

    Interesting story

And definitely proof of love is love and love conquers all

How many of us would still be with our spouse/SO if we or they came out as trans?
    ======================================================

"Let's go shopping," my wife, Stefanie, said one Sunday afternoon. "I need a dress!" I barely recognized the blond woman smiling at me in the crowded outlet store.

After more than a decade of marriage, my husband, Stefan, came out as a trans woman and transitioned to become my wife, Stefanie. It has been almost a year now, and I'm no longer surprised by the changes in her physical appearance — she's gorgeous — but I'm still in shock about the personality changes.

My husband hated clothes shopping with our two daughters, ages 9 and 2. My wife had a blast.

    We're both happy

Stefanie luxuriated in the swish of silky fabrics, the feathery tickle of cashmere, and the clinking of beads. I'd never seen her so happy as she reinvented herself, one burgundy tunic and one silver bracelet at a time. I was also surprised when she offered to push the toddler's stroller so I could shop unencumbered.

As Stefanie transitions into a body that fits her, I'm finding more joy in everyday life, too.

I'd never heard of the expression "gender euphoria" before my wife came out. The media loves to emphasize the negative sides of trans people's lives, but the flip side of gender dysphoria — the euphoria — deserves attention, too.

Stefanie's coming out has improved both her life and our family life. Our children barely blinked the first time they saw their father in a dress. But they've definitely noticed that Stefanie takes them to the zoo and trampoline park more.

I don't want to minimize the pain in Stefanie's 42 years of wrestling with gender. But that journey is her own story to tell. We need more stories written by trans people that capture all the colors of this experience, not just the darker shades.

We also need trans family stories.

Stefanie has emerged from dark clouds as a dazzlingly bright sun. I'm basking in her glow. Having my partner come out as trans was one of the best things to happen to me.............

So, you are saying the Brits were the first to institute identity politics? So, just so I am correct on what you think, identity politics is a bad thing when the ruling class did it in the 1700s but in our current society, it is to be celebrated?

Replace LGTBQ with 'conservative' or 'Christian' or 'white' or 'right' or 'straight' and your statement reads exactly the same.
You are essentially discussing the evils of identity politics, but you can only see it from your side I am sure. Do you not see that?

If you as the spouse, don't consider that betrayal, then your marriage was a sham from the very beginning.

MARION, Ohio — Public outrage ensued following a Friday graduation ceremony in Ohio where an alumni speaker condemned homosexual relationships in his commencement speech.

Jim McGuire encouraged the graduates of River Valley High School to pursue the "Biblical principles" of only romantic relationships between a man and a woman.

After opening his speech by encouraging the graduates of the public school in Ohio's Marion County to spend time "learning God's word," McGuire made the following comment about relationships:

"Choose a spouse, I suggest. I also strongly suggest to make sure to choose Biblical principles, you know, a male with a female and female with a male," he said...........

Funny how this thought that was common throughout human history, across every culture on earth now sparks 'outrage'.
Obviously, I applaud the young man for standing up for what he believes in.

Lol, I've never championed identity politics. You love to go on tangents when your original argument isn't going well.

But also, this is different. This is more a tactic of creating schism in a group that shares the same identity with the purpose of weakening said group.

Slavery was common throughout most cultures in history.

If you can't come up with something better than that's how it's always been to justify something, then you aren't really justifying it.
