Didn't really see a place for this so I thought I would start a thread about all things LGBTQ since this is a pretty hot topic in our culture right now

• Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in an opinion for a majority of the court that Philadelphia violated the First Amendment by refusing to contract with Catholic Social Services once it learned that the organization would not certify same-sex couples for adoption.

I will admit, I was hopeful for this decision by the SCOTUS but I was surprised by the unanimous decision.

While I don't think there is anything wrong, per se, with same sex couples adopting and raising children (I actually think it is a good thing as it not an abortion) but I also did not want to see the state force a religious institution to bend to a societal norm.

I did not say any of that. But if people want to use those terms, I’m not going to care - nor am I going to call them “groomers” or try to erase their existence. Why do you get so upset about the way people use words?

What if a kindergartner has a gay or trans parent? Are they not allowed to speak of them in school? It would seem that they are not in your world.

Words are how human express reality. That is why they are important.

When I was in kindergarten, I can't remember having discussions with other kids about their parents sexual preferences or to be honest, about their parents at all. Let them be kids. I don't know why this is so controversial. Let them enjoy being a kid, hopefully, like we all did. Why use them as pawns for you political ideology?

You equated children mentioning that they have gay parents as "having discussions with other kids about their parents sexual preferences". If a child mentioning mom and dad is not a discussion of sexual preference, then surely a child mentioning mom and mother is also not a discussion of sexual preference.

Supporters argue the measure is needed to give religious officials, couples and others opposed to gay marriage an option that wouldn’t conflict with their beliefs.

Critics say it’s a deliberate effort to circumvent the Supreme Court’s 2015 ruling legalizing gay marriage and could lead to costly legal battles. Many have noted that the bill initially failed to include a minimum age — an omission that has opened the door to widespread mockery. Some worry the move helped reinforce stereotypes regarding Tennessee as backward.

The bill’s Republican sponsors have downplayed concerns that the age omission would result in a wave of child marriages, but they’ve since introduced an amendment that would incorporate an age requirement of 18 years old or older…….

The Tennessee bill, however, specifically states the contract would only apply to “one man and one woman,”thereby banning same-sex couples from pursuing the option. Opposite-sex couples wouldn’t have to file the contract with the state, meaning county clerks wouldn’t have to recognize the contracts like they do with marriage licenses.

“This legislation has kept me up at night,” Republican Rep. Johnny Garrett told lawmakers earlier this week.

Garrett, who is an attorney, said the lack of state recognition would mean couples would likely be unable to claim benefits and be denied rights typically given to married couples. He also pointed out that there’s nothing prohibiting individuals from entering into multiple contracts.

“We’re going to legalize polygamy in this state,” he warned……..

I am not even 100% sure what Qananon is so I know I can't see the 'thread running through all of this'. Qanon sounds like a liberal conspiracy theory and obviously it is if all conservatives that oppose groomers are part of qanon.

Although, if Qanon is against child sexualization and gender theory in K through 3rd grades, then sign me up, is there a website?

At the time you posted this, my BS meter pegged, lol. You participated in the QAnon thread no less than 10 times and over a bit of time, it’s not like you just popped in one time.

Just at least be honest. You know the “groomer” BS is QAnon, and you’re fine with it.

When I was 19, I had surgery for sex reassignment, or what is now called gender affirmation surgery.

The callow young man who was obsessed with transitioning to womanhood could not have imagined reaching middle age.

But now I’m closer to 50, keeping a watchful eye on my 401(k), and dieting and exercising in the hope that I’ll have a healthy retirement.
In terms of my priorities and interests today, that younger incarnation of myself might as well have been a different person — yet that was the person who committed me to a lifetime set apart from my peers.

There is much debate today about transgender treatment, especially for young people. Others might feel differently about their choices, but I know now that I wasn’t old enough to make that decision.

Given the strong cultural forces today casting a benign light on these matters, I thought it might be helpful for young people, and their parents, to hear what I wish I had known.


I once believed that I would be more successful finding love as a woman than as a man, but in truth, few straight men are interested in having a physical relationship with a person who was born the same sex as them.

In high school, when I experienced crushes on my male classmates, I believed that the only way those feelings could be requited was if I altered my body.

It turned out that several of those crushes were also gay. If I had confessed my interest, what might have developed? Alas, the rampant homophobia in my school during the AIDS crisis smothered any such notions.

Today, I have resigned myself to never finding a partner. That’s tough to admit, but it’s the healthiest thing I can do.

As a teenager, I was repelled by the thought of having biological children, but in my vision of the adult future, I imagined marrying a man and adopting a child. It was easy to sacrifice my ability to reproduce in pursuit of fulfilling my dream.

Years later, I was surprised by the pangs I felt as my friends and younger sister started families of their own.
The sacrifices I made seemed irrelevant to the teenager I was: someone with gender dysphoria, yes, but also anxiety and depression.

The most severe cause of dread came from my own body. I was not prepared for puberty, nor for the strong sexual drive typical for my age and sex.


Surgery unshackled me from my body’s urges, but the destruction of my gonads introduced a different type of bondage. From the day of my surgery, I became a medical patient and will remain one for the rest of my life.

I must choose between the risks of taking exogenous estrogen, which include venous thromboembolism and stroke, or the risks of taking nothing, which includes degeneration of bone health. In either case, my risk of dementia is higher, a side effect of eschewing testosterone……

I shudder to think of how distorting today’s social media is for confused teenagers. I’m also alarmed by how readily authority figures facilitate transition. I had to persuade two therapists, an endocrinologist and a surgeon to give me what I wanted.

None of them were under crushing professional pressure, as they now would be, to “affirm” my choice.
I may well have transitioned even after waiting a few years.

If I hadn’t transitioned, I likely would have suffered from the world in other ways. In other words, I’m still working out how much regret to feel, but I’m comfortable with the ambiguity.


What advice would I pass on to young people seeking transition? Learning to fit in your body is a common struggle. Fad diets, body-shaping clothing and cosmetic surgery are all signs that countless millions of people at some point have a hard time accepting their own reflection.

The prospect of sex can be intimidating. But sex is essential in healthy relationships. Give it a chance before permanently altering your body…….

A few days after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law a bill limiting LGBTQ instruction in the state’s public schools, high school student Will Larkins had an idea.

Larkins, the founder and president of the Queer Student Union at Winter Park High School, just outside Orlando, said he asked his history teacher if he could share a lesson with classmates about the 1969 Stonewall uprising in New York City, widely considered a crucial turning point in the modern LGBTQ rights movement. The teacher agreed, Larkins said.

“She didn’t know what it was,” Larkins said of the Stonewall uprising. “That just speaks to how unfortunate our education system is. They don’t even teach history teachers that. It’s something you really have to go out of your way to learn about.”..........

If you believe doctors/science are infallible, then why wouldn't you get a vaccine?

He also said that doctors almost always gets it right. But I guess you didn't get that part. Why wouldn't the kids that just heard their teacher assume the doctor got it right in their case? And if they kid ask, the parent can just tell them the doctor got it right in their case and the kid can go back to playing video games and forget about it.

A person sharing something about their life in an age appropriate manner it not indoctrination.
