Didn't really see a place for this so I thought I would start a thread about all things LGBTQ since this is a pretty hot topic in our culture right now

    https://www.cnbc.com/2021/06/17/sup...y-that-refuses-to-work-with-lgbt-couples.html

    • The Supreme Court on Thursday delivered a unanimous defeat to LGBT couples in a high-profile case over whether Philadelphia could refuse to contract with a Roman Catholic adoption agency that says its religious beliefs prevent it from working with same-sex foster parents.
    • Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in an opinion for a majority of the court that Philadelphia violated the First Amendment by refusing to contract with Catholic Social Services once it learned that the organization would not certify same-sex couples for adoption.

I will admit, I was hopeful for this decision by the SCOTUS but I was surprised by the unanimous decision.

While I don't think there is anything wrong, per se, with same sex couples adopting and raising children (I actually think it is a good thing as it not an abortion) but I also did not want to see the state force a religious institution to bend to a societal norm.

For any of our lawyers: how close is DeSantis to violating the First Amendment with Disney? It sure seems to me he is using government to punish Disney for stating opposition to his “hate” law.

Oh, and edited to add this: all this cancel culture and woke stuff is just so much BS. We see immediately that DeSantis is very much in favor of cancel culture and making a company regulate its speech is the same thing these goombahs say they object to in being “woke”. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

Disclaimer: I don’t know if this is real or not. Moms for Liberty is a far right wing group that really pushed for the FL bill that outlaws speech about gender identity in grades K-3.

Not in the sense of being property, no, in the sense of being part of:
Do you think parents should have a say in the education curriculum for their kids, or rely on the professionals?

So you find it creepy because you have an unfounded theory?
Sure. I also think a man hitting a woman is creepy and gross. Not as much as adults condoning children mutilating their bodies due to the confusion that is part of the human condition during adolescence.

    Unfounded, no. Theory, absolutely.

I think Ron DeSantis is becoming even more dangerous than Donald Trump. He's full tilt authoritarian willing to use the full power of the state to silence any and all political dissent.
I am glad a conservative has finally learned how to play the left's game.

DeSantis is more dangerous because he actually has more than two brain cells to rub together unlike Trump.
I agree 100%. If Trump is smart, he will back away and play the 'king maker' role and let DeSantis loose.

What age do they 'support' that? 27% in elementary? This is where the anti-groomer bill is designed for.

Weren't you just complaining about "don't say gay"? then you jump right into "anti-groomer bill"

What exactly is allowing children knowing that gays and transgendered people exist and that's okay grooming them for?

It's not unfounded? Then you can surely provide evidence of "adults condoning children mutilating their bodies".

The left and right don't play the same game. The right game is to restrict Americans rights and force them to live in accordance with draconian Christian morality. The lefts game is promote inclusion and equaity of marginalized groups and govern.

Also, the right has been playing their game for ever and are much more underhanded and conniving about their goals.

    That's not an 'or'.

Unless they're homeschooling and completely independently developing their own curriculum, parents naturally rely on teachers and other education professionals to define a suitable curriculum.

Parents also have a say in that through a lot of different ways (the extent of each varying by area, state, country): direct interaction, school boards, choices of schools, local and national elections, etc.

And that said, if some parents choose to use that say to demand that their children are taught an inappropriate curriculum that includes falsehoods, misrepresentations, and bigotry, I fully support the professionals in not doing that.

    Good but sad read
    ===============
On March 2, a Child Protective Services worker visited my home. Because my wife, Amber, and I are the supportive parents of a transgender boy, we had been accused of child abuse.

About a week earlier, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) had issued an order requiring that citizens report parents such as us and that authorities investigate our cases.

Later that same day, the University of North Texas, where I teach, hosted a talk by Jeff Younger, a candidate for the Texas House of Representatives. Younger is a prime advocate of the “trans health care is child abuse” myth — the “tip of the spear,” as he describes himself.

In 2019, as he began an ultimately unsuccessful fight for custody of his own transgender child (whom he persistently misgenders), he whipped up a right-wing frenzy — a crusade to “save” children by depriving them of care. Texas legislators failed to pass such a law in 2021. Younger wants to help them succeed in 2023.

In short, a person responsible for the attacks on my family was to speak at my university on the same day that the state launched its effort to tear us apart.

Let me be clear: This is harm fueled by ignorance and hatred. Families such as mine are already terrorized. If the zealots succeed, we will be broken. I shudder to think what they would do to our son if they got their claws into him.

I decided to attend Younger’s talk. As a parent under investigation, I wanted to keep an eye on the enemy. As an educator, I wanted to listen to what he had to say. I came as two people: a father draped in the transgender flag and a professor with a notebook, resolved to silently protest while honing my counterarguments…….
