It’s so repulsive to see people cheering for what is basically 80% the same thing as the Holocaust - different end result but otherwise very similar.

Economists have said it would tank the economy and cause inflation - notwithstanding the cost.

Is it going to actually happen or is this Build The Wall 2.0?

The idea of learning from history here is that you recognise the path and sound the alarm before it reaches the "final solution starts here" sign.
Oh! So do you feel that soon we'll see the gas chambers, the ovens, the piles of bodies, the mass executions, the mass graves... ? Carried out by the U.S. armed forces?

It wasn’t the regular German army that carried out the atrocities in the camps. And yet, we already see individuals linked to groups like the Proud Boys joining ICE, eager to "help" catch and deport "illegals." Some have even been accused of harassing American citizens. Putting known racists in positions of power over the “unwanted” in detention camps is a recipe for disaster.
And we’re only one month into this presidency. It took the Nazis four to five months to establish the first camps—and years before the mass killings began.

Awareness of history and the willingness to speak out—early and often—are crucial in preventing history from repeating itself. Complacency and silence allow dangerous ideologies to take root, but vigilance and resistance can make all the difference.

This is kind of funny when you think about Gitmo. We already got caught torturing people at that camp.
Yes, in the form of waterboarding, sleep deprivation, physical/psychological abuse... but waterboarding, sleep depravation, physical/psychological abuse, that's not in the same universe as piles of emaciated dead bodies, mass gassings, mass executions, piles of gold teeth, shoes, glasses...

I already got a week ban once for posting holocaust pictures; I want to say you were one of the highly offended, but the posts have been since deleted. Maybe I should get another ban just to remind all of you what the holocaust actually was.

Systemshock - "Yeah, but this is a different group of brown people. I need to see it again."
Very cute. But you do you.

No, I mean, the only way that happens again is if people say it'll never happen again and insist no comparisons should be made to anything that led up to it until it's already happened. And it's not like anyone is doing that, is it?

Cute. So, you Do think we'll see the gassings, the crematory ovens (probably solar powered by Tesla), the piles of gold teeth, the piles of shoes, the executions of entire families? All carried out by the U.S. armed forces?

Not all of them, no, and maybe not specifically the army... but the majority were part of the armed forces. So were the death squads operating in Eastern Europe.

The atrocities in the camps and on the eastern front were carried out by the SS, particularly the Einsatzgruppen, who were tasked with targeting Jews, political dissidents, and other so-called "undesirables." They were not part of the regular Wehrmacht but rather a paramilitary force loyal to Nazi ideology, specifically trained and deployed for mass executions and other brutal operations.

This distinction is important because it underscores how authoritarian regimes often create special units, separate from the regular military, to carry out their most extreme policies—something that should serve as a warning when we see similar patterns emerging today.

More details.

“PANAMA CITY, Feb 19 (Reuters) - A group of nearly 100 migrants deported from the U.S. to Panama last week has been moved from a hotel in the capital to the Darien jungle region in the south of the country, Panama's government said on Wednesday.
In a statement, Panama's security ministry said of the 299 migrants deported from the U.S. in recent days, 13 had been repatriated to their countries of origin while another 175 remained in the hotel in Panama City awaiting onward journeys after agreeing to return home.”

The migrants have been staying at the hotel under the protection of local authorities and with the financial support of the United States through the U.N.-related International Organization for Migration and the U.N. refugee agency, according to the Panamanian government.
The migrants include people from Afghanistan, China, India, Iran, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Uzbekistan and Vietnam, according to Panama's president, Jose Raul Mulino, who has agreed with the U.S. to receive non-Panamanian deportees.

The deportation of non-Panamanian migrants to Panama is part of the Trump administration's attempt to ramp up deportations of migrants living in the U.S. illegally.
One of the challenges of Trump's plan is that some migrants come from countries that refuse to accept U.S. deportation flights due to strained diplomatic relations or other reasons.
The arrangement with Panama allows the U.S. to deport these nationalities and makes it Panama's responsibility to organize their repatriation.
The process has been criticized by human rights groups that worry migrants could be mistreated and also fear for their safety if they are ultimately returned to violent or war-torn countries of origin, such as Afghanistan.”

The story does not mention if those who are deported to Panama had active asylum claims in the US.. If they did then according to the law AFAIK it is not legal to deport them before their claims has been processed.
There are 1.4 million with court ordered deportation orders so I expect they are a prime target. Or they were caught recently at the border and immediately removed.

You're focusing on only one aspect of the killings. In the first five years, most victims were either worked to death or executed by gunfire. The so-called "Final Solution" was developed not only because mass shootings were inefficient but also because even hardened SS officers struggled with the psychological toll of repeatedly killing people face-to-face. The gas chambers were seen as a way to make mass murder more systematic—and more detached.

How far down the road do we have to get to start making the comparisons to Nazi Germany? I don't think we'll ever get to the oven stage (or at least I sincerely hope we never do), but I don't want to find out where it's going to go next. We are already further down this road than anybody should be comfortable with. I mean they're flying people to Guantanamo and Panama to escape scrutiny and judicial review and to hide what they're doing. This is scary stuff and it's the exact time to take those comparisons to Nazi Germany seriously so that public pressure builds and we do an about face and stop this progression.

So you think missing the point and just repeating yourself will achieve something?

For more information, please reread.

I am not excusing anything, but I do have an issue with the Nazi comparison. When I see piles of emaciated dead bodies, gold teeth, shoes, mothers asked to hold babies to their chest so the executioner uses only one bullet to kill them both... then I'll be the first to make the comparison to Nazis.
Oh, I get it. But I also think the comparisons to early Nazi Germany are striking and shouldn’t be ignored. Trump is following the same playbook that Hitler followed, really it’s the same that all authoritarians follow.

We are already taking people, including children, out of this country and stashing them in a camp in another country, rather than deporting them to their country of origin. And sending folks to Gitmo with no evidence of criminal activity. From reports, they have taken people who are following the law when they show up for their immigration hearings.

What will happen when the camps are full? The Nazis didn’t come up with the final solution right away.

It may be premature, but I would rather not wait to see mass murder before sounding the alarm.

Providing details.
That group reportedly includes children. It also reportedly includes people in the process of applying for asylum.

And Trump is making Panama take them basically by threatening Panama. What could go wrong?

There could very well be deaths, even if inadvertent. We shouldn’t trust that Panama will treat these people they were forced to take humanely.

This shouldn’t be okay with anyone.

An Arizona lawmaker has proposed a bill that would give state and local police agencies a $2,500 “bounty” for each deportation of an unauthorized migrant they help secure.

The proposal, Senate Bill 1111, would tax international remittance payments made from inside the state and use this money to fund the bounty program.

“What we don’t want are criminal illegal aliens on our streets. So in line with the wildly popular mass deportation that President Trump is currently engaging in, we are going to ensure that our law enforcement is doing its job to support that effort and make sure our streets are safe,” the bill’s Republican sponsor, Senator Jake Hoffman, told KPHO.

Migrant advocates have warned that the proposal could cause even lawful migrants to fear engaging with police, and Arizona’s Democratic governor Katie Hobbs has said she will not sign the bill.……

To add: we should be following our own immigration laws here rather than what Trump is doing.

He doesn’t appear to be following established immigration law. And yet “conservatives” will be okay with what he is doing. Why is that?
