This election nonsense by Trump may end up splitting up the Republican Party. I just don’t see how the one third (?) who are principled conservatives can stay in the same party with Trump sycophants who are willing to sign onto the TX Supreme Court case.

We also saw the alt right types chanting “destroy the GOP” in Washington today because they didn’t keep Trump in power. I think the Q types will also hold the same ill will toward the traditional Republican Party. In fact its quite possible that all the voters who are really in a Trump personality cult will also blame the GOP for his loss. It’s only a matter of time IMO before Trump himself gets around to blaming the GOP.

There is some discussion of this on Twitter. What do you all think?

Tonight the an RNC draft 'resolution to censure Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger' was posted in which they accuse the two of standing against Trump . . . and the resolution has apparently been passed/approved effectively confirming that the RNC's official position is supportive of Donald Trump as leader of the Republican Party and resisting any meaningful attempt by Republicans to reject January 6.

They don’t like cancel culture? Lol

I'm not going to pretend like Cassidy hasn't been playing both sides of this since he's got 6 years to not have to worry about reelection now and will probably just retire after this term anyway, but it's nice to see a deep south Republican senator saying something (anything) in support of the 1/6 committee. And he's been consistent since 1/6 in his stance too, unless I missed something.

The only time it might have been a possibility was the few days right after the insurrection. At that time some (Rs) were saying things like (paraphrased) "now is a time to heal from this". There should have been a great pressure and effort from the public, from everywhere, to get them to do SOMETHING about what just happened. But that "time to heal" faded quickly, then maybe a week or so later the (Rs) started to pivot to making it seem like it wasn't as bad as it really was.

It’s going to be interesting to see how, decades from now, all this is explained
    =======================

In recent days, we’ve learned that Donald Trump fully intended to get the 2020 election “overturned,” that he suggested law enforcement agencies could seize voting machines, and that, if elected in 2024, he might pardon those who violently attacked our seat of government, resulting in five dead and scores wounded.

So how is the GOP’s central committee responding to these developments?

With new efforts to punish the two Republicans who most prominently think this conduct should be disqualifying to lead their party and should call forth a serious national reckoning and institutional response in defense of U.S. democracy.

On Friday, the Republican National Committee is expected to censure Reps. Liz Cheney (Wyo.) and Adam Kinzinger (Ill.) for their roles on the House select committee examining the Jan. 6 insurrection incited by Trump…….

^ yeah what a difference a year makes.

"The Conference must not be sabotaged by Representatives Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, who have demonstrated, with actions and words, that they support Democrat efforts to destroy President Trump more than they support winning back a Republican majority in 2022," the resolution said

Here is a comment by Romney

the party (with a few notable exceptions) has gone full on bat shirt crazy.....I hope it destroys itself at this point....
Sadly, the pathetic Democrats will cede power forever this November.
    Welcome to one-party rule, tovarisch.

Laura and I are watching the scenes of mayhem unfolding at the seat of our Nation’s government in disbelief and dismay. It is a sickening and heartbreaking sight. This is how election results are disputed in a banana republic – not our democratic republic. I am appalled by the reckless behavior of some political leaders since the election and by the lack of respect shown today for our institutions, our traditions, and our law enforcement. The violent assault on the Capitol – and disruption of a Constitutionally-mandated meeting of Congress – was undertaken by people whose passions have been inflamed by falsehoods and false hopes. Insurrection could do grave damage to our Nation and reputation. In the United States of America, it is the fundamental responsibility of every patriotic citizen to support the rule of law. To those who are disappointed in the results of the election: Our country is more important than the politics of the moment. Let the officials elected by the people fulfill their duties and represent our voices in peace and safety. May God continue to bless the United States of America.

    -- President George Bush
