This election nonsense by Trump may end up splitting up the Republican Party. I just don’t see how the one third (?) who are principled conservatives can stay in the same party with Trump sycophants who are willing to sign onto the TX Supreme Court case.

We also saw the alt right types chanting “destroy the GOP” in Washington today because they didn’t keep Trump in power. I think the Q types will also hold the same ill will toward the traditional Republican Party. In fact its quite possible that all the voters who are really in a Trump personality cult will also blame the GOP for his loss. It’s only a matter of time IMO before Trump himself gets around to blaming the GOP.

There is some discussion of this on Twitter. What do you all think?

Apparently it's a dire warning about just how dangerous another Trump presidency would be. Essentially she says our democracy wouldn't hold this time.
    From the book said:
“Trump has told us that he thinks the Constitution can and should be suspended when necessary, that what happened on Jan. 6 was justified, that in a second Trump presidency he would seek retribution,” Cheney writes. “The assumption that our institutions will protect themselves is purely wishful thinking by people who prefer to look the other way.”

This online article presents predictions that Trump will already be convicted just before the Republican National Convention. HOW will this historically unfortunate situation play out then?
I don’t know. But it seems the default GOP position is do whatever Trump wants them to do. They will have to prove to me they can take their party back from him. Let’s just say I will be pleasantly surprised if Trump isn’t the nominee, conviction or not.

I’m surprised that I haven’t seen much about Kissinger’s death.
Yeah, it will be interesting to see how much play it gets. The guy was probably the most powerful secretary of state in this country's history, or close to it. Some say Dean Acheson was.

If Trump gets enough votes to win the nomination and the nomination is not confirmed by the Republican Convention, then the Republicans have no chance of winning the presidency in the general election. That's why the Republican Convention will confirm Trump as the nominee, no matter what Trump has done or will have done.

I think the problem that the Republican party doesn't realize, is that if Trump doesn't get the votes to win the nomination, he's going to do to Republican Convention what he did to the whole country on Jan 6th, 2021. The people speculating on how another Republican candidate could win the nomination over Trump never seem to consider the destruction that Trump will cause if that happens.

Trumpism is a huge problem for the country regardless of whether or not Trump ever wins another election. His devotees have committed violence in his name more than once, they will do it again.

i would love to see another Jan 6th situation happen, but on the hands of MAGA vs Republican. That would be great, it would harm the Republican party for years to come.

Hmmm. How is he going to determine which officers are “woke”? Easy, peasy - female - woke! POC - woke! Let’s watch and see, lol.

Liz Cheney, whose opposition to Donald Trump’s presidency alienated her from her fellow Republicans, has said she would prefer Democrats to win in the 2024 elections over members of her own party because she feared the US was “sleepwalking into dictatorship”.

In an interview with CBS on Sunday, Cheney suggested a Republican congressional majority that would be subservient to another Trump White House presented a tangible “threat” to American democracy.

“I believe very strongly in those principles and ideals that have defined the Republican party, but the Republican party of today has made a choice, and they haven’t chosen the constitution,” the former Wyoming congresswoman said when asked if she was rooting for Democratic victories in the 2024 election cycle. “And so I do think it presents a threat if the Republicans are in the majority in January 2025.”……..
