This election nonsense by Trump may end up splitting up the Republican Party. I just don’t see how the one third (?) who are principled conservatives can stay in the same party with Trump sycophants who are willing to sign onto the TX Supreme Court case.

We also saw the alt right types chanting “destroy the GOP” in Washington today because they didn’t keep Trump in power. I think the Q types will also hold the same ill will toward the traditional Republican Party. In fact its quite possible that all the voters who are really in a Trump personality cult will also blame the GOP for his loss. It’s only a matter of time IMO before Trump himself gets around to blaming the GOP.

There is some discussion of this on Twitter. What do you all think?

Sarah Cascone at least acknowledged the gift shop is no longer affiliated with the White House. Has Cassidy taken the time to clarify the same?

"The White House Gift Shop, which also sells Trump’s signature red “Make America Great Again” hat for $24.95, was founded by President Harry S Truman and the Secret Service in 1946, but has not been affiliated with the US government since 2013. Privately owned and for-profit, it does, however, feature a USA.gov logo on its website."

    /But it's still the same thing, y'all!!!

I think I missed something. When did Cassidy say that it was the Biden administration who was responsible? All I heard him say was that it was the WH gift shop that was putting out the coin.

    Mixed feelings about this.

On the one hand, it is obviously highly inappropriate to want to celebrate the indictment. Even if you think Trump is guilty as sin, it's not a good day for democracy when a former president and current presidential election front runner is indicted.

On the other hand, I'd sure buy a couple.

They're taking pre-orders. Here's what it looks like on there web page:

If I had just seen that cold while searching on the site, I would have thought they must have been hacked, because they wouldn't do something like that. Especially with no picture, that makes it not seem real.

I'm sure Trump did not authorize them, but I don't doubt he'd order some for his friends if they look decent when they come out.
One of the things that bother you is, "On the one hand, it is obviously highly inappropriate to want to celebrate the indictment."

It's not that obviously inappropriate to me. What I see as being inappropriate is a person who tries to decide what is inappropriate for all of us through an act of proclaiming "it" as simple being thus.

What I'm getting at is you loaded your statement with your own RW sentiment that relies on the very conventions in a society of the type that Donald Trump violates daily as a general rule during his daily outrage of the broken conventions that oozes from his oily pores.

Why?, would I ask is it not decent celebrate this indecent person's indictment, when he's the very pinnacle of best bad example of indecent behavior we currently have inflicting our society.

I want there to be bag pipes to celebrate his indictment. I want street dancing for three days and nights. I want there to be merchandised trivia commemorating this high achievement in our society.

For the first time in a long time a rich and powerful super B'ster amoung us is being treated somwhat like the rest of us are treated by "Law and Order."

Did I mention I want bag pipes, I want them, but I also want to see Natalia singing The Sleeping Sun without bagpipes:

Did you get this upset when the WHGS started selling the COVID coin and people criticized it?

The White House Gift Shop Is Now Selling This Absurd Commemorative Coin Honoring President Trump’s Fight Against the Coronavirus

Donald Trump's penchant for over-the-top presidential coins has already inspired contemporary-art parodies.

    Sarah Cascone, April 30, 2020

Why am I even asking? If you are so angry over Cassidy not clarifying that Biden is not in charge of the WHGS, then of course you would have been furious at Sarah Cascone directly blaming Trump for it.

    Right?
i have no doubt the ones who were mad about that assumed the White House was invloved. there are plenty of articles fact checking when that happed explaining that the Giftshop was not run by the white house,
Also, i didn't look, but is the Giftshop selling those ONSITE in the White House, or just Online?
Because if they aren't actually selling them onsite, its even more fail..

This is obviously an opinion. What you do is state “facts” that aren’t true, and then refuse to admit they were your feelings and not facts. And you’ve been been arguing with people here of all political stripes about some of these things for quite some time. Whataboutism seems to be your default mode. It is what it is at this point.

This is such typical predictable behavior by the idiocracy party.....

WASHINGTON (AP) — Venturing back into the nation’s culture wars, the Republican-controlled House has approved legislation that GOP lawmakers say would protect gas stoves from overzealous government regulators.

A bill passed Tuesday would prohibit use of federal money to regulate gas stoves as a hazardous product, while a separate measure endorsed on Wednesday would block an Energy Department rule setting stricter energy efficiency standards for stovetops and ovens.

The White House said the administration “has been clear that it does not support any attempt to ban the use of gas stoves,″ but GOP lawmakers say rules on gas stoves represent classic government overreach.

“It’s not a petty concern to the hard-working Americans who will be impacted,″ said Rep. Tom Cole, R-Okla. “The last thing they need is to have the Biden administration’s Green New Deal regulatory assault reach their kitchen appliances.”…..

To me, the push regarding gas stoves and furnaces is a classic case of the government going after the little guy because the real abusers have deep pockets full of campaign donations.
How about going after the top 100 polluting corporations before you talk about my LaCornue.

The GOP is the party of Trump with a faction of anti Trumpers to large to go away.

But he's 77 now. He's over weight and under indictment. So the interesting question is where does the Party go when he dies. Can the Trump faction keep control or will the Party revert back to the Never Trumpers AKA RINO faction.

IMO the default is that it goes back to the establishment wing, the RINO group. The Trumpets appreciate an outspoken leader that fights for them. Establishment voters have always been content with mealy mouth pols who talk a good game and then knuckle under to Dems at the first negative coverage.

Trump dies, DeSantis could pick up his torch. Could, not will.

    Interesting times.

I think the “push” is a Republican invention. Stricter regulations on gases emitted by stoves are fine, as long as they are actually achievable, but the frenzy about banning gas stoves is just another version of the migrant caravans filled with terrorists and leprosy, IMO. One bureaucrat said that at some point in the future they might consider banning gas stoves, and Rs ran with it like it was an official stated goal. It wasn’t, and the agency said that the guy was just giving his opinion, not policy.

It was low hanging political fruit, and the Rs in Congress jumped at the chance to “solve” a problem that doesn’t exist.

Ending a walkout that held up key bills for six weeks, Republicans showed up for work in the Oregon senate on Thursday after wresting concessions from Democrats on measures covering abortion, transgender healthcare and gun rights.

The lawmakers’ walkout – the longest in state history and the second-longest in the United States – came as several statehouses around the nation have been ideological battlegrounds, including in Montana and Tennessee.

The Republican boycott, which prevented the state senate from reaching a two-thirds quorum needed to pass bills, was prompted by a sweeping measure on abortion and gender-affirming care that Republicans called too extreme. The measure would allow doctors to provide abortions regardless of a patient’s age, with medical providers not required to notify the parents of a minor in certain cases.

As part of the deal to end the walkout, Democrats agreed to change language concerning parental notifications for abortion.

Under the compromise, if an abortion provider believes notifying the parents of a patient under 15 years old would not be in that patient’s best interest, the physician would not have to notify the parents – but would need another provider to concur. However, no second opinion would be needed if involving a parent or guardian would lead to the abuse or neglect of the patient.

Democrats said the measure will still ensure abortion access and protect caregivers from anti-abortion or gender-affirming care measures passed by other states. It will also require that health insurance covers medically necessary gender-affirming care.

Democrats also agreed to drop several amendments on a bill that would punish the manufacturing or transferring of undetectable firearms. The now-removed clauses would have increased the purchasing age from 18 to 21 for semiautomatic rifles and placed more limits on concealed carry.……
