This election nonsense by Trump may end up splitting up the Republican Party. I just don’t see how the one third (?) who are principled conservatives can stay in the same party with Trump sycophants who are willing to sign onto the TX Supreme Court case.

We also saw the alt right types chanting “destroy the GOP” in Washington today because they didn’t keep Trump in power. I think the Q types will also hold the same ill will toward the traditional Republican Party. In fact its quite possible that all the voters who are really in a Trump personality cult will also blame the GOP for his loss. It’s only a matter of time IMO before Trump himself gets around to blaming the GOP.

There is some discussion of this on Twitter. What do you all think?

I think there's going to be a push among the GOP's true power center to move on from Trump as a candidate with too much baggage - with Desantis looking like an obvious choice.

Get your popcorn because we all know how Trump responds being rejected.

yes, but he doesnt have that weird cult thing like Trump does...

Which is why I’m not sure how DeSantis would do on a National level

Look at all the Trump swag at his rallies

    Trump as Rambo

    Trump as the Hulk

    Trump as Jesus

Trump riding a T-Rex shooting machine guns (really)

Can you imagine any of that with DeSantis’ face?

Anything that destroys and degrades government. Corruption, incompetence, underfunding...whatever it takes for maximum anarchy because anarchy=lower taxes and fewer regulations.

I think that the president elected in 24 is going to face challenges beyond anything previously experienced unfortunately and Trump/DeSantis would be completely unable to meet those challenges. Look at what is happening with global warming right now and how quickly the situation is deteriorating. Mass ocean deaths, temperatures at certain places approaching a level where humans cant really exists. Unprecedented natural disasters - storms, floods and droughts at levels never seen before.

I'm affraid that if a republican president is elected in 24 that whoever gets the job will do a "Trump" - "it is not so bad, it will go away on its own" Covid 19 response to those challenges as well

Nope it is this simple. Trump wants his own network and take a cut of that pie Rupert has all of. They will push who is not potentially a threat to his money. That is DeSantis by a mile. If any of trump social media did not flop he already would have a network and would be eating Rupert's pie.

Stop pushing Trump because it is good for them financially. These things are always about money.

President Biden quoted liberal icon Franklin Delano Roosevelt when he first addressed Congress last year, laying out a policy plan with New Deal-sized ambition: curb climate change, reduce college and drug costs, raise corporate taxes, subsidize child care and continue tax rebates for parents, among other initiatives.

Fourteen months later — despite unified Democratic control of the House, Senate and White House — none of that has passed into law.

At the same time, the conservative rebellion birthed in response to Roosevelt’s legacy notched major public policy victories in the courts and in states across the country.

The conservative Supreme Court’s landmark victories this week on abortion and guns capped a year-long string of victories on the right, especially in 23 states, including giants like Texas and Florida, where conservatives control all branches of elected government.

Republicans have expanded school choice, reformed school curriculums, curbed voting access, lowered taxes and launched a new wave of culture wars against gay, lesbian and transgender Americans.

With the court overturning Roe v. Wade and the constitutional right to an abortion on Friday and curtailing restrictions on gun ownership on Thursday, conservative activists have had reasons to celebrate amid growing hopes for retaking the House and Senate this fall.

“You don’t plant and reap at the same time. And this has been a long process. The fruit of yesterday has been a long time coming,” Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, a Christian conservative group, said Saturday. “There were times that I didn’t even think we would get to this point.”……..

This is why so many of us hold the DNC in contempt. It's not that they're bad people or pushing bad policy, it's that they're so effing ineffectual.

Listen up, you spineless, disorganized sacks of ugly water, you will never get a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, so figure the fork out how to get things done without it. The GOP sure can.

The democrats are probably never going to be as effective as Rs at mudslinging. They’re not a monolith, they don’t insist on ideological purity, they aren’t as good at twisting issues and lying about the opposition, although on that one they are gaining ground. 🤞🏻

All the Dems really need right now is a little message discipline. Keep the radical actions of the Rs in the spotlight. Stress that they have no plans to help people, just to police people’s private lives. They voted against health care, cheaper insulin, infrastructure, and veterans benefits. They want to increase your taxes, take away birth control, and same sex marriage. They want to take away Medicare, Social Security and Medicaid. They want abusive people to have ready access to guns.

Mudslinging and messaging are just parts.
The Ds need to learn how to play hardball again. How to get shirt done.
Dear DNC. Just what the fork do you actually want? Do you want all 3 branches? Ain't gonna happen. Do you want a 67-33 advantage in the Senate?
What would you do if by some miracle you got it? Would we get Mitt Romney's idea of single-payer healthcare?
Would we get Mitch McConnell's idea of paid family leave?
Maybe Tommy Tubberville's plan for climate change?
It's not that the DNC has "moved too far left". It's that they don't deliver on the wildly popular center-left items they promise.

And that's because the party's attempt to expand the tent is so wide it can't agree on a single message. It either goes too far (Sinema/Manchin) or it doesn't go far enough (AOC/Bernie).

Agree-can you imagine if the Dems had elected someone as unqualified as Trump and he lost his second term and tried to stay in power anyway, and then Dem politicians said they would vote for him again? They would be drummed out of the party! Dems would have impeached the Trump person too, though. But not Rs-party over country for the vast majority.
