    This election nonsense by Trump may end up splitting up the Republican Party. I just don’t see how the one third (?) who are principled conservatives can stay in the same party with Trump sycophants who are willing to sign onto the TX Supreme Court case.

    We also saw the alt right types chanting “destroy the GOP” in Washington today because they didn’t keep Trump in power. I think the Q types will also hold the same ill will toward the traditional Republican Party. In fact its quite possible that all the voters who are really in a Trump personality cult will also blame the GOP for his loss. It’s only a matter of time IMO before Trump himself gets around to blaming the GOP.

    There is some discussion of this on Twitter. What do you all think?

    Putting this here even though it’s more about democrats than republicans
    ======================

    Another set of GOP primaries takes place Tuesday, most notably in Georgia, where incumbent Gov. Brian Kemp will likely hold off a challenge from former senator David Perdue, whose campaign is largely based on the idea that Kemp failed to help President Donald Trump steal the 2020 election.

    But in the race for secretary of state, Trump-backed Rep. Jody Hice could win, and could end up overseeing the 2024 election in this vital swing state.

    And in other secretary of state primaries Tuesday, such as in Arkansas and Alabama, Republicans might nominate Trump loyalists who pose a genuine threat to our ability to conduct fair elections and have our votes counted.
Yet

    Democrats have yet to convince the public to take the threat seriously enough.

    A new set of focus groups run by Democratic pollster David Binder from May 10 to May 12 illustrates the point.

    The research raises a question: Are Democrats getting their criticism of the GOP abandonment of democracy right?

    Binder conducted four focus groups in Georgia and two in Michigan, mostly with suburban voters, independents and moderates who have voted for candidates in both parties.

    The groups were commissioned by the Democratic-aligned voting rights organization IVote to determine what voters want to hear from Democratic candidates for secretary of state.

    The results are worrying when it comes to democracy — but also suggest a way forward for Democrats…….

    After seeing Kemp beat Perdue, the right has to hope that her re-election is far from a sure thing (like the rest of us hope).
    It's not that surprising that Kemp would win a state-wide vote in a primary system where a Democrat can choose to vote in a Republican primary. Greene is isolated to her own wacky district and handily defeated her GOP challengers. The Democrat there will get crushed in the general election.

    Yeah, that's a done deal.

    according to plan I suppose. From what I gather, the maps were junk, the (R) refused to do anything, let the time expire, forcing judges to choose one of the unconstitutional maps

    Ah, yes. Once again my state looks like a collection of idiots. Thanks Republicans.

    Wasn't sure if this should go here, or the Jan 6th Big Lie thread or the voting thread

    These fraud claims are getting even more ridiculous and dangerous
    ========================================================

    By now, the trend is abundantly clear: No matter the election, no matter the evidence and sometimes no matter whether his side wins or not, former president Donald Trump is going to claim or suggest widespread voter fraud. It happened in 2012 and 2016. It happened in 2020. And it happened in two of the highest-profile elections since 2020: the California recall and the Pennsylvania primary.

    It’s always baseless, and often someone has already debunked either his exact claim or a version of it. But rarely is it as dubious as the latest iteration.

    In an email from his political action committee Tuesday, Trump promoted an analysis that suggested former senator David Perdue’s loss in the Georgia governor’s primary, by 74 percent to 22 percent, somehow was the result of voter fraud.

    Among the claims made in the piece the former president sought to promote:

    • It’s inexplicable Trump’s candidates lost by so much in Georgia because his endorsement has been so successful elsewhere. This ignores that his endorsement has failed plenty, including in high-profile races in Idaho, Nebraska and North Carolina. The vast majority of Trump’s endorsees win, but that’s because most of them face only token opposition; when it’s actually a competitive race, he’s much closer to 50-50.
    • Nobody in any election in America gets 74% of the votes. Ever. It doesn’t happen.” It does indeed. In fact, a 2009 study found that only around 1 in 10 Senate incumbents took less than 75 percent of the vote in their primaries. Many faced token or no opposition, but it does happen — very regularly. Trump also got at least 74 percent of the vote in nearly 1,100 counties in the 2020 general election. Combined, they accounted for more than 8 million of the votes he received, about 11 percent of his vote total.
    • Trump’s endorsed candidate for insurance commissioner somehow “got the same percentage of votes in 122 out of 159 counties in Georgia.” If true, that would be suspicious! It is not true.............

    It is bad enough the [MOD EDIT - PARTISAN TRIGGER] Trump spouts this stuff. What is worse is that the base believes it. And what is worse than that is the Republican Party does not confront him and repudiate it. That undermines the core principle of democracy which is the people’s voice is heard via the ballot. Destroy that, damage that enough and the other institutions built upon that foundation are much more likely to crumble.

    That leads to charlatans especially those that would be worse than Trump.

    Chaos follows after.

    What's new with the Pennsylvania Dr Oz situation? Did that ever get resolved?

    According to this, recounts were supposed to have begun by yesterday and are supposed to be finished by the 7th, with results submitted by the 8th.
