I’m sure much of us are having 2016 flashbacks this morning with a sick feeling to our stomachs..

2 of the last 3 elections Democrats have lost to a far right demagogue

Harris didn’t get close in many states to even Biden’s performance. We could very well lose the Presidency, Senate AND House depending on results the next few days…..

What went wrong?
What could’ve been done better?
What can we change in the future to ensure voters are motivated like they were when Obama was elected?

Democrats have no choice but to admit there’s a huge problem with some aspect of their platform— and to do a deep introspection of what’s going wrong..

In 4 battleground states the Democrat won the Senate with roughly the same amount of votes as Kamala while Trump won the state by a comfortable margin. That means people were voting Trump and NOTHING else. People took the time to vote for Trump and leave the rest of the ticket blank.

Once again, the Democrats should look at their messaging and their candidates, but not grossly overreact. This Trump thing is a unique phenomenon in American politics and is unlikely to ever be repeated again. It took us 250 years for this to happen once. You can see by how his cabinet appointments are being derided for THE SAME STUFF TRUMP DOES. Whatever magic it is he has isn't transferrable. He has no coat tails. Cult leaders never do.

Everyone needs to take a deep breath, relax, and take a good look at the data. Its not as bad as it feels.

If they want to win in the future - focus on the economy. Talk about it relentlessly and outline their vision for it and how it will work.

There's a good chance he's going to overstep (which a number of his cabinet nominations suggest that he's going to overstep)... which means he'll flame out quickly. The Democrats will need to have a clear alternative and vision for the future of the country, and they can repeat 1986 (where they took back the House and the Senate after Reagan crushed Mondale in 1984)

On the economy, Democrats need to hammer the message home that "Republicans always crash the economy" and can't be trusted with it. They need to start that now and say over and over again that, "Every Republican president crashes the economy." State it like that fact that it is. "Republicans always increase the deficit." Repeat it over and over until it gets through the thick skull of this electorate and they stop reflectively believing that Republicans are always better for the economy.

I completely agree. They need to do a better job claiming this issue. They have objective facts on their side from a reductive standpoint... and I think they can make a compelling argument on economic theory.

I'm not even a super fan of Democratic economic policy - I just think it's better than what has been Republican policy.

I think it was a mistake not to do Rogan. Yes, he has the intellectually ability of a cactus plant, but he has a wider audience than every news network combined. Heck, if I were Kamala I would have been there as soon as my policy positions were nailed down. It would have been the first and last stop of my campaign.

I know she took one trip to Fox News, but thats not where the rubber meets the road anymore. Take the message about how poorly Republicans handle the economy to common man media and repeat it over and over for the next 4 years. Anyone who wants to run for President in 28 should be making that circuit starting now.

I think one of the biggest screwups looking back was letting the parliamentarian say no on the minimum wage increase.

When the same happened to Republicans. They just fired the guy and got a new one.

I listened to a lot of Ezra Klein post election loss.

He made a great point about all of that. If you think Kamala should have done Rogan or not doesn't matter. What does it say about the party when we were comfortable with the Cheney's but not Joe Rogan? Why are we excluding people like him, but including them?

Democrats can’t be the party of upholding the status quo. They absolutely must be the party of the working class. This election shouldn’t have been close.

Immigration was the key factor for me. Yes, the economy is poor. goods have tripled in price since Biden. But, the benefits given to illegal immigrants was the point of no return for me. The lack of money that goes to our citizens, and to watch medical benefits, housing benefits, etc go to illegall immigrants is sickening. There is an 1990's video of trump on Oprah. He's saying the exact same things he says now. Everyone loved Trump before he ran for president. Now, he's a nazi. Laughable. It's refreshing to see a lot of the country see through that type of talk about Trump.
