I’m sure much of us are having 2016 flashbacks this morning with a sick feeling to our stomachs..

2 of the last 3 elections Democrats have lost to a far right demagogue

Harris didn’t get close in many states to even Biden’s performance. We could very well lose the Presidency, Senate AND House depending on results the next few days…..

    What went wrong?
    What could’ve been done better?
What can we change in the future to ensure voters are motivated like they were when Obama was elected?

Democrats have no choice but to admit there’s a huge problem with some aspect of their platform— and to do a deep introspection of what’s going wrong..

Then why the hell did you let them do it? All of t his after-the-fact stuff just makes me trust you even less (but not as much as the current occupant of the White House).

The guy who writes the Richard Nixon social media accounts says the only reason for her to take this stance now is to try to get back in the race. I don’t think there is any appetite there for that. She should find a cause that she cares about and apply herself to that. She’s done.

As much as I might hate myself later for jumping in, I have to ask you this. I watched the video. I didn't see what you see. Can you point out a few of the more egregious things Prof. Wood said, with timestamps, so I can go back and rewatch it?

If you don't hear the racism and misogyny on your own, then there is no use. But I did highlight a few quotes on another post, but replaced black with white, to see if it would "ring a bell"... but all I got was apologetics, moving goal posts, red herrings, strawmen...

But here it is anyway... I don't expect anyone here to concede Wood's racism and misogyny, because of ideology, but imagine someone like David Duke, or Rush Limbaugh, or Donald Trump, saying this... and remember, this is the president of a university .

"As a white man, I want to see particularly our boys and men become more successful in education".

"My focus is to prepare teachers to better teach white boys and men."

"That black teacher will be teaching someone who's very different from them".

"Blackness is an ideology, is a culture, a value system, and what we need to do is eliminate that value system. What I want to do is create an environment that is more collective, that is more value driven, that communicates love to our children, and that flies the absolute opposite of blackness".

Of course non-white people can be racist — but that isn’t what’s happening in this case or in the video you shared. The counselor was clearly talking about the importance of role models,
No, he was not. How's eliminating "whiteness" and claiming whiteness flies in the face of collectivism, values, and love to our children?

And he's not a "counselor". He is the president of Sacramento State University, a university that's > 50% female in enrollment (Wood never mentions women, specifies boys and men), a university that enrolls students of Asian, Hispanic, Native descent (Wood never mentions any other ethnicity but black/AA).

yet you chose to “interpret” a single line as racist and have kept shifting the goalposts ever since.
This is rich, shieldmaiden role model claiming I bash women and accusing me of being afraid of strong women.

I'm still waiting on you, I want to see the quotes.

Nope nope nope. You're smarter than this. If someone asks for a cite and you can't provide anything other than a few quotes plucked from a 15-minute video, altered and stripped of context, then you know full well your position is going to rightfully be dismissed out of hand.

Now, do you have any time stamps I can look at?

    Yes, yes, yes.

The only alteration I made was to interchange white and black, that's it.

I'm not going to waste too much of my time, since I have a feeling you are just going to tell me I am seeing things, but I'll give you one: 10:35

    Yes, yes, yes.

I'm not hearing it. What was said at that time stamp that you find so offensive?

She should have run for governor of California as folks urged her to do.

I understand the points you're making. It's just she's 89. It may very well be prejudice, but it's really formed from recent evidence and experience in Washington. With the exception of Bernie Sanders, most of what I've seen from very old people in Washington leaves a lot to be desired (i.e. Trump, Biden, Feinstein, Schumer, McConnel, RBG, etc.). I'm not saying younger people are necessarily better, but at least they're likely to be able to relate a little better to current challenges, complete full sentences and stay alive. Also, the "passing of the torch" is a natural part of life for all of us. Washington leaders need to learn that leason.
I hear you and understand your reasoning. I speak up about age discrimination, because it is rampant and accepted as normal. It's the one form of discrimination that we, who are not wealthy, will experience in our lives if we live long enough. The discrimination is compounded for the elderly who are not white males, just like everything else.

Even being a "white, straight, cis" male, I've been openly discriminated against in the screenwriting world since I turned 45, which unfortunately was a year after I sold my first script. It was like playing career Chutes and Ladders. Finally climbed up a level, only to step in a chute and slide all the way past the beginning with no more ladders in sight.

There is one very big exception in age discrimination laws - mandatory retirement ages. That's usualy what people want for politicans as well.

I think that's legalized discrimination. Being legal doesn't keep it from being discrimination. Jim Crow laws discriminated against black people.

I think it should be like getting a driver's license. If you can pass the tests, then your age doesn't matter. I'd support mental and psychological evaluation with minimum requirements for everyone who wants to run for state and federal office, regardless of age.

I got let go 2 days before my 64th birthday because my territory wasn’t “growing”. This was in 2020 in the middle of CoVid. My territory was the Northeast which was ground zero for CoVid. Nobody was buying schlitz. I figured they wanted to cut expenses because my salary was fairly high. They did pay me from June through October. Of course, I found out that they took PPP money. Have been working for myself since nobody will hire me and I am not ready to completely retire.

Facepalm for the thinly veiled discrimination against you, but thumbs up for going self-employed.

Fine. I didn't hear anything racist. What was said at that timestamp that you find racist?

I am not going to play this game anymore. You very well know that if Stephen Miller came out and said he wanted to eliminate blackness and listed a number of disparaging things as the definition of blackness, you'll be screaming "WHITE SUPREMACIST!", and rightly so.

The game of... discussing your claim on a discussion board? Cool.

No. That game right there. The comment Luke Wood made is racist, and he clearly shows he cares not about anything else but half his male gene pool. You will defend that, of course.

And why is this pertinent to the thread? Because that's what Dems do, they defend that shirt tooth and nail as long as it doesn't come from the largest voting bloc in the country, because when that happens, they're out in force decrying racism (as rightfully they should).

If Stephen Miller would say he wanted to eliminate blackness in the U.S., would you say that is racist?

I asked you to clarify what you thought was racist because I didn't hear it. You said it started at 10:35, and there is a full 60 seconds of video from that point forward. What does he say in that span that you deem racist? If you don't actually clarify it, I can't address it. So give me the actual quote from that point in the video so I can listen for myself instead of taking your opinion as forking fact.

You're the one who introduced the video to this thread. If it's not pertinent, why the fork did you post it?

How about you post the real thing that was said that struck you as racist instead of playing with hypotheticals. And before you get all huffy, remember that your hypothetical is just that, and what was actually said has context.
