Surprised I didn't see it posted anywhere. And to preface -- I know there are too many contextual complexities to name regarding this.

Props to this administration for pushing to get this done. Endless war shouldn't be what American citizens view as 'normal'.

This would be a huge win for Americans and Afghanis if this works out as planned:

The US and Nato allies have agreed to withdraw all troops within 14 months if the militants uphold the deal.

President Trump said it had been a "long and hard journey" in Afghanistan. "It's time after all these years to bring our people back home," he said.

Talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban are due to follow.

Under the agreement, the militants also agreed not to allow al-Qaeda or any other extremist group to operate in the areas they control.

Just confirmed on CBS that there are American casualties.

Quite literally daring the US and NATO to stay past that 8/31 deadline and start another war. We better have been tracking the Taliban by satellite and be ready to bomb them into the stone age after as soon as we get everyone possible out of there. Screw even putting boots on the ground. Just keep pounding them day after day with drone attacks for all I care. They broke the deal Trump negotiated (unless this was part of the deal Trump negotiated.)

Like Trump said, the Taliban will be killing terrorists. He should have asked them to define terrorist before he made the deal.

The Taliban condemned the attack, saying it happened it an area controlled by U.S. forces.

Maybe this is more likely than the theory of the Taliban just looking the other way while it occurs, but make little difference at the moment if it's going to occur regardless

Heard on the radio that US told all American citizens remaining last night to stay away from the airport gates today. So hopefully they all did stay away. Heard there were 13 civilian deaths, presumably all Afghan citizens.

First US service member deaths in Afghanistan since February 2020, I believe.*
Two explosions ripped through crowds of Afghans trying to enter Kabul airport on Thursday, killing at least 13 Afghans and 4 U.S. troops, and disrupting the final push of the U.S.-led evacuation effort.

*There had been no combat deaths of US service members in Afghanistan since February 2020. I'm guessing these deaths today don't count as combat.
