Here’s an explainer on his declaration of “energy emergency”. Basically it’s a power grab. It will allow oil and gas companies to ignore all environmental regulations and will allow the federal government to use eminent domain wherever they want. They seem to specifically be targeting CA.

Oh, and wind and solar are no longer defined as part of our “energy” resources, and the declaration of emergency has no stated goal or end date. It’s open season, apparently.

Trump is pushing limits that I didn’t hear anyone predict. I assume the courts will be jammed dealing with the lawsuits. I assume petty crimes will find it hard to get time in the courts. So much for the right being advocates for state’s rights.

Interesting. There is no energy emergency. We are producing more oil and natural gas than basically we ever have. Since the oil & gas industry if driven by profit prices have to be high enough to make production profitable. This also means selling crude on the open market and selling refined product on the open market. If prices drop enough they will cut production and refining. Or will the idiot try to nationalize the industry or guarantee profit through subsides which will drive more debt?

Lawsuits need to be filed by the hundreds against everything this fool is doing and planning to do.

They are only advocates of states’ rights when it comes to things that they hate being done on the federal level.

This could be its own thread.

I'm getting conflicted info on if this will only apply to kids born starting in Feb or if retroactive.

But it still leads me to wonder about the administrative burden on proving this. What's the burden of proof? Lets use the example of citizen parents. Do parents need to bring in their birth certificates? Is that enough? Are the hospitals certifying that the child is a citizen born of lawfully present parents? Or do they do the same thing, but now folks need to go to the state department to get some sort of proof of citizenship?

If a birth certificate isnt enough... What about Real ID? What about Passports?

However, I can't see this surviving court due to the 14th ammendment.

Chuck has the clause, "and subject to the jurisdiction thereof" been interpreted or defined to mean something other than US territories / embassies? I.e. if an undocumented/illegal person had a kid here, are they potentially not subject to the US jurisdiction? Id imagine anyone here is subject to our jurisdiction. Otherwise criminals whonarent citizens could argue our laws don't apply. (OK, im digressing).

And yet there’s a non zero chance this SCOTUS will manufacture something. We already have 3 justices itching to do it. Alito, Thomas and Barrett. I’m guessing they could convince kavanaugh fairly easily. Gorsuch is another possibility. Then it’s done.
