I guess it's time to start a thread for this. We know that at least 140 members of Congress have pledged to join the objection. Under federal law, if at least one member of each house (HOR and Senate) objects, each house will adjourn the joint session for their own session (limited at two hours) to take up the objection. If both houses pass a resolution objecting to the EC result, further action can take place. If both houses do not (i.e. if one or neither passes a resolution), the objection is powerless and the college result is certified.

Clearly this is political theater as we know such a resolution will not pass the House, and there's good reason to think it wouldn't pass the Senate either (with or without the two senators from Georgia). The January 6 joint session is traditionally a ceremonial one. This one will not be.

Many traditional pillars of Republican support have condemned the plan as futile and damaging. Certainly the Trump loyalists don't care - and many are likely doing it for fundraising purposes or to carry weight with the fraction of their constituencies that think this is a good idea.

I expect the pressure on Cruz to resign to continue to mount because generic Republican beats Beto O'Rourke (or another Dem candidate) in 2024's Senate Race. Ted Cruz would arguably lose that race. It would not surprise me to see the Koch Foundation denounce Cruz effectively ending his political career. Ultimately there is nothing special about Cruz apart from the office he occupies and any other generic Republican can cast the same pro-Koch agenda votes without the controversy.

We're now seeing corporate donors halt financing of these Republicans:

This was mentioned elsewhere. The surefire way to end the careers of Cruz, Hawley, et al is to introduce them going forward as "proud supporter of the attempted coup and seditionist senator".

I almost don't expect that particular sentiment of his to last through tomorrow lol.. and he did say it to me on the phone and he didn't expect me to out him on the internet lol! but there's been definite progress for sure. Which has been nice.

He thought the election was really over awhile back so he wasn't completely bonkers which is different than a lot of them.. but I also do get the broader feeling that there is this significant segment out there that is breaking rather hard from Trump with how this is unfolding.

C'mon, where's the crap they do where they throw murder charges on the assailant when the accomplice gets killed. Hell, they ALL (by all I mean everyone who stormed the capitol) should get 5 murder charges for each of the 5 people killed during this siege.

the charges they are arrested for are not necessarily the charges they will be tried on. probably easier to get a warrant for a lesser charge, then upgrade to a higher one once more investigations are done.
