I guess it's time to start a thread for this. We know that at least 140 members of Congress have pledged to join the objection. Under federal law, if at least one member of each house (HOR and Senate) objects, each house will adjourn the joint session for their own session (limited at two hours) to take up the objection. If both houses pass a resolution objecting to the EC result, further action can take place. If both houses do not (i.e. if one or neither passes a resolution), the objection is powerless and the college result is certified.

Clearly this is political theater as we know such a resolution will not pass the House, and there's good reason to think it wouldn't pass the Senate either (with or without the two senators from Georgia). The January 6 joint session is traditionally a ceremonial one. This one will not be.

Many traditional pillars of Republican support have condemned the plan as futile and damaging. Certainly the Trump loyalists don't care - and many are likely doing it for fundraising purposes or to carry weight with the fraction of their constituencies that think this is a good idea.

not that there is any humor in all this, but some dumbness to the core is worth laughing at..

(it's even funnier if you know she's the one who put the onion in her towell and was rubbing it in her eyes to make it seem like she was maced..)

In all the ugliness, there were heroes who kept this from being far more tragic.

The conspiracy nuts think that whole sequence was staged and have their own warped explanation for that. My friend who reads those type of sites claims he actually led them to the Senate floor. She said the guy carrying the lectern and the people breaking windows were antifa and she believes the whole thing was set up to make MAGA look bad.

    Entirely predictable from her though.

I’m glad they have arrested him and all, but he’s not (or shouldn’t be) the main concern. I hope the FBI is working on the real terrorists, the guys who came to conduct kidnappings and possibly hangings or mass executions. Someone on Twitter said there are “tourists” and “terrorists” involved. We should definitely arrest and charge the tourists, but we can’t lose sight of the fact that there were also serious people who were attempting to overthrow the government. They had the full backing of the president, and a yet undetermined number of other federal employees and officials. It was pre-planned, and we got pretty damn lucky they didn’t succeed.

This isn’t aimed at you, ward, hope it doesn’t come off that way. Just frustrated that our elected officials don’t seem to be acting fast enough, or with nearly enough unity in the face of this coordinated attack.
    Oh, it's coming.

    They found online plans.

Watching the Sunday shows this morning is infuriating. If I hear one more Republican say “nobody could have seen this coming” I’m going to throw something at the TV. Everyone who didn’t have their heads ear deep in Trump’s anus saw this coming. We’ve been screaming it from the mountain tops since 2012. We’ve been screaming through Jade Helm, birtherism, Q Anon, Sandy Hook conspiracies, and all 4 years of Trump’s rhetoric that you can’t LIE to people and scare them like this and expect them not to react.

A major focus of the media the last 4 years has been the radicalization of the right. State houses were stormed and a plot to kidnap and put a governor on trial was stopped. EVERYONE SAW THIS shirt COMING!
Heck, even we were kind of talking about it a day early in this very thread.

Newly elected representative, Lauren Boebert, tweeted the morning of January 6, “Today is our 1776”. Not only could we see it coming, many wanted it and knew what their rhetoric was stirring; revolution through violence. The election was never going to be overturned, but especially not because people assembled peacefully with signs.

    They knew.

I tuned in Weds to watch the count, and see how circus mode it would go with the objections. I watched it all go down live and I've been nauseated since.

They terrorists are promising more to come, and quite frankly I believe them. I work with people that were amazingly proud of what happened weds and I've been just mentally shut down since. I'm not a religious man, but I pray for my kids sake that nothing happens in the coming weeks. Like one of the earlier articles said, Weds wasn't like a hurricane, where it passes over and it's back to business as usual.

I feel the time line for this country has been altered and I hope that logic and cooler heads can prevail. Being an empath forking sucks.

There's supposed to be no place for this in Congress & there's no "both sides" to this crap either...If the GOP was sincere about their wanting to stop the divisiveness they'd kick any co conspirators out of the Republican Party (House and Senate) and admit to any and all lies spread by the party that they used to stir up the masses. This won't make everything "all good" again but it'll be a start. Sure this would split the current GOP into a party of "conservatives" and a 3rd party of whack-jobs, costing them any shot at a majority for the next few cycles, but this is the cost that needs to be paid for attempting to overthrow the election and install an unelected dictator.

Yeah sounds right but will never happen.

They are power hungry. When you have years of Mitch holding up everything that is not his goal is a prime example

You can never forget that they were so power hungry they allowed Trump in the first place. The democrats would have refused his nomination without full financial transparency. They all did this to us not part of they

I expect the pressure on Cruz to resign to continue to mount because generic Republican beats Beto O'Rourke (or another Dem candidate) in 2024's Senate Race. Ted Cruz would arguably lose that race. It would not surprise me to see the Koch Foundation denounce Cruz effectively ending his political career. Ultimately there is nothing special about Cruz apart from the office he occupies and any other generic Republican can cast the same pro-Koch agenda votes without the controversy.

We're now seeing corporate donors halt financing of these Republicans:

    good luck with that lol
(meanwhile in AZ - apparently still in full support of trump)

Some at a Maricopa County Republican Committee meeting on Saturday wanted to censure Cindy McCain for her support of Democratic President-elect Joe Biden, but the proposal did not move forward, according to Marcus Milam, who was acting secretary at the event.

The county GOP did censure former Sen. Jeff Flake, who did not seek a second term in 2018 and who also endorsed Biden over Republican President Donald Trump.

A video of the meeting shows that Walt Steiner from Arizona's Legislative District 4 proposed to add the widow of six-term Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., to the resolution against Flake. The proposal received cheers and applause from a largely unmasked crowd gathered for the meeting at Dream City Church in Glendale outside Phoenix.

A party member was booed after mentioning McCain's work for the church foundation, the state of Arizona and on the issue of human trafficking.

The resolution eventually passed in a 1,190-to-291 vote, but Milam clarified Saturday night that the censure pertained only to Flake because resolutions cannot be amended.

Well that's the thing, I actually believe that we'd be looking at a 2nd Kaisich term had the Republicans showed some common sense and consolidated around the moderate candidate like the dems did w/ Biden when it looked like the more progressive side was moving towards a win against the fractured majority moderate wing.

The power hungriness came into play after trump won the nomination. They went all in on crazy to win, and now their chickens have come home to roost.

But yeah, what I suggested won't happen because they're not sincere about their calls for "ending the divisiveness", it was IMO the only "falling on the sword" that can get us going in the right direction, problem is they feel like they need the divisiveness to survive...the modern GOP is like a virus, it doesn't care what it destroys in order for itself to survive.

If that is indeed true, my dude needs some sort of Capitol Police equivalent to the MoH...I remember watching that video all pissed off because he didn't put 2 in the Q dude's chest. His actions and calm under duress prevented a calamity of semi-biblical proportions.
