I guess it's time to start a thread for this. We know that at least 140 members of Congress have pledged to join the objection. Under federal law, if at least one member of each house (HOR and Senate) objects, each house will adjourn the joint session for their own session (limited at two hours) to take up the objection. If both houses pass a resolution objecting to the EC result, further action can take place. If both houses do not (i.e. if one or neither passes a resolution), the objection is powerless and the college result is certified.

Clearly this is political theater as we know such a resolution will not pass the House, and there's good reason to think it wouldn't pass the Senate either (with or without the two senators from Georgia). The January 6 joint session is traditionally a ceremonial one. This one will not be.

Many traditional pillars of Republican support have condemned the plan as futile and damaging. Certainly the Trump loyalists don't care - and many are likely doing it for fundraising purposes or to carry weight with the fraction of their constituencies that think this is a good idea.

looks like trump has some time to hand out some medals today

    (yes earlier today)

I'm finding it disappointing that so many people can't see what seems so obvious.

I doubt anyone forced Trump to give his speech. I don't doubt it was written for him. I think he chose to gave his speech today, because the only clear message in the speech was to condemn the assault yesterday and on the record say that he did not want what happened yesterday. He did the speech today to create reasonable doubt if he's ever charged with sedition or inciting a riot.

That would be akin to someone who gave you evidence of them killing someone else, and the next day, denouncing the murder as to create reasonable doubt. For anyone not in the cult, that speech doesn't cut it.

Everyone that is resigning right now are not resigning because they think Trump went to far. They all knew this was coming and stuck around. They are resigning, because the seditious assault didn't work. They are resigning in case they are investigated or charged. They are also creating reasonable doubt in case they need it. They can defend themselves by saying "I knew nothing, I saw nothing, I heard nothing and after it happened I quit."
Too little too late. Again, they can say "I knew nothing, I saw nothing, I heard nothing and after it happened I quit" all they want, but the evidence is there.

I was only speaking to the motivation behind Trump's speech today and all of those resigning. I have no idea if it would be effective if it ever gets in front of a judge and jury.

Are there any Prop Bets on who will get the blame on this one, the politicians who riled up the crowd (and have power) or the weak minded (who have no power)?

I saw it too - by accident and it's very unsettling. It wasn't a barricade, it was a window that had been broken, one of those interior wall/door/window features where the door is in the center and wood on each side goes up about halfway, and then there's glass. It was clearly a line of defense for the law enforcement.

And, wrapped in her Trump flag, she climbed up and attempted to be the first to jump through, in to the secure zone where at least six officers waited in position with drawn weapons. One of them fired at close range. It's sad and pathetic that this woman gave her life in such a stupid way.

Now these cretins are "saying her name" in the same way that many Americans mourned Breanna Taylor's tragic and unnecessary death as she slept in her home. I cannot describe how foul that is.

It actually was a make-shift barricade with chairs(?) stacked up around those windows. I agree about comparing this to Breanna. The lady died committing a crime. This may sound horrible, but I have more empathy for the cop who shot her. I took some CJ classes in college. I remember some stat about a decent percentage of cops quit within 5 years of taking life in the line of duty. If you aren't a psychopath that kind of thing has to weigh on you.

This can’t be right. I was told there’s no way the military would follow an illegal order.

And before someone says that a few members of the military does not constitute “the military,” I will again remind you that it’s time to stop being naive. This is evidence of members of the military willing to follow the illegal orders of a president to storm the Capitol.

You don’t have to have all of the military brass on board, or even a majority of the military. If you have enough guys with access to planes, tanks, and ships who are willing to go along for the ride, then congrats, you’ve got a military coup.

It doesn't matter how pathetic their insurrection attempt was, we have to prosecute everyone.

I had doubts that Trump would ever serve jail time, but now i believe that he may be in jail on inauguration day. I believe that the second he is not president he will be arrested.

    Probably a good idea
    ==================
American Airlines will not serve alcohol on flights to and from the Washington, DC area after supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the US Capitol, a spokesperson said.

The airline has also increased staffing at Washington-area airports "as a precautionary measure."..........

On the same day that a police officer died from injuries sustained while defending the capitol, Trump was awarding the Medal of Freedom to 3 golfers.

What did you do to earn your Medal of Freedom from the POTUS?
MOF Winner #1 - "I helped usher in equal rights for an entire race of people"
MOF Winner #2 - "I devoted 47 years of my adult life to public service"
    MOF Winner #3 - "I played golf"

I can't speak about tanks or ships..but I can speak about planes....Even if you are talking about a single seat fighter, to get one armed single seat fighter off the ground would take dozens of individuals (all at the same base) willing to follow an illegal order (and willing to discuss it with others). It's not like the pilot can simply say, I'm gonna go shoot some people to help my guy win the election.
