I guess it's time to start a thread for this. We know that at least 140 members of Congress have pledged to join the objection. Under federal law, if at least one member of each house (HOR and Senate) objects, each house will adjourn the joint session for their own session (limited at two hours) to take up the objection. If both houses pass a resolution objecting to the EC result, further action can take place. If both houses do not (i.e. if one or neither passes a resolution), the objection is powerless and the college result is certified.

Clearly this is political theater as we know such a resolution will not pass the House, and there's good reason to think it wouldn't pass the Senate either (with or without the two senators from Georgia). The January 6 joint session is traditionally a ceremonial one. This one will not be.

Many traditional pillars of Republican support have condemned the plan as futile and damaging. Certainly the Trump loyalists don't care - and many are likely doing it for fundraising purposes or to carry weight with the fraction of their constituencies that think this is a good idea.

Roofie has the benefit of living in the UK where people aren't obsessed with guns, religion, and conspiracy theories. Most polls show Labor beating the Tories in the next general election (which is still several years off) and then you have sub-parties like the SNP, Lib Dems, and Greens that act as buffers and a check on the two major parties.

Never mind the Conservative Party in the UK is absolutely nothing like what the GOP is now in the U.S. It's basically a hybrid of Joe Biden/Manchin. Also, in general, the UK population has a greater sense of decorum and civic mindedness than the U.S. All of that is to say Roofie can't really understand how bad things have gotten here because his own country is far more sane.

Damn, this thread was nearing the bottom of the page. Been a while since there wasn't any news on this, I guess. But, today, this happened:

Well, you can't argue with that logic. he's suffered enough
    =======================================

A Capitol riot defendant claims he was barred from Airbnb and Lyft, and lost his TSA precheck pass after his arrest, according to a legal filing.

Justin McAuliffe pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge of parading, picketing, or demonstrating inside Capitol grounds in November last year.

He is due to be sentenced on Friday, and in a formal request to the court for leniency his lawyers described how the plea has already disrupted his life as an accountant living on Bellmore, Long Island.

McAuliffe lost clients and investment partnerships, the request said. He was, per the document, also banned from working as a Lyft driver and using Airbnb, and also lost his TSA-precheck pass, the filing said...........

Man, I love bacon, but i never want to see pigs treated that way.

It did make me wish that before Don Jr. goes to prison, that they would grease him up and let a bunch of trans women chase him and stuff him into a barrel though.
Listening to that last pig squeal for its life with grown arse people chasing it and flopping on top of it to catch it and then stick it in a 55 gallon drum really makes me wish the pigs had a chance for a role reversal.

Gonna sound harsh but I love bacon, smoked sausage, pork chops, pork ribs, chitterlings, pork butt and pork loin. Does it really matter how the pig is treated if you ultimately eat it? What is worst for the pig; being greased up, chased and put in a barrel or being fattened up, slaughtered and then having it's own meat stuffed in it's own guts and smoked? I think if the pig had a choice, it would take being greased up and chased.

    Yea, but not both.

I doubt those pigs died of natural causes, unless bacon is considered a natural cause for pigs.

Actually, yes, it does matter how the pig's life was lived. Not caring about how the food we kill and eat lives its life is how we ended up with corporate feed lots of cows that spend their whole lives covered in their own shirt, being force-fed corn, which isn't natural for them to eat, never seeing grass from birth to death. Or pigs kept in pens so small that they never even manage to make a 360 in their entire lives? There is meat from about 1000 cows in your average fast food beef patty, after it's run through ammonia, before it's shipped cross-country. Chickens so hopped up on steroids that they drag their breasts on the ground to the point of bleeding until they're ultimately slaughtered? You are what you eat.

I'd much prefer be able to kill the cow myself knowing it lived a decent life and then eat it than anything above. It's the Buddhist in me.

So you're saying that the chickens we eat would be banned from competitive cockfighting for PEDs.
