There is a lot of push-back from Trump on voting by mail, but most states allow it, and 1/3 allow it without any excuse. His rationale is that it will lead to vast fraud, but of course that isn't his real reason. His real reason is that he thinks it will be worse for conservatives, but studies have shown that states that have instituted much broader voting by mail haven't had any statistical changes in party voting.

Although, normally voting by mail doesn't affect party votes, I bet it might this year if we have another resurgence of Covid, because I think the right is much more apt to discount the virus than the left. I know that is why Trump is against it.

Whether you're left or right wing, expanding mail in votes is the right thing to do to reduce the likelihood of spreading the virus, to expand voter participation, and to make it easier for those that do show up to stay distant. It will also allow any people with susceptibilities to remain safer. I think voting by mail could be made extremely secure by having people vote using traditional postal mail, coupled with requiring a confirmation either by phone, email or text. If done by phone, then voters can provide confirmation that can include confirming their form number. If done by email or text, it can include a picture of their form, and then confirmation that that was their form. Rather than staffers individually calling people, this can be automated by having voters call the number, text the number, or email the address provided to them on their form. A website can even be created with a database of those that have voted, and perhaps a link to allow people to confirm their vote was correctly registered. For people without computers, a site can include a means to access the database over the phone with some confirmation information. These types of systems are used extensively by banks and other sites that need security, so I think they are mature enough to use. We could even use such a site for people to confirm their vote on the day of the election.

Maybe this has already been posted

I suspect House R's will be tweeting disparaging remarks about Krebs real soon. This type of treachery is not welcomed by trump and his House acolytes.

If the Democrats don’t this to motivate their base for the Georgia runoff elections and any seats they think they can pickup in 2022, they are stupid. Goes lower if they need to. Make sure to let their voters know that they only way to stop this from happening again is to take control of the house, senate, and presidency.

    Stacey Abrams to the rescue.

I can't believe we are talking about this shirt possibly happening in America. I feel sick to my stomach.

If there is nothing wrong, then why stop investigations and litigation that will protect our election integrity? I thought everyone would welcome a chance that Joe won fair and square.
I know this is late and may have been addressed, but...

    1) investigating allegations that have no evidence whatsoever (fraud was rampant enough to change the results of the election) is a waste of time, money, and resources.
    2) where the heck was this sort of thinking from the right when a credible allegation came out against Kavanaugh in his SC confirmation hearing?:unsure:

This is something an ideologue says and you will not goad me into playing low-hanging fruit, left vs right politics. ... I do however love a good ol shirtshow though ...
A Roman Empire metaphor that sums up your posts, you won't get me down into the pit of the Colosseum, but I'll be up in the stands cheering on and being entertained by the bloodbath.

That attitude is the main part of the problem our society is facing. There are too many Cartman wannabes running around tasting tears. Cartman is a arsehole and tragically miserable antagonist. He hates himself which is why he acts the way he does.

The problem with American society is that people actually love others as they love themselves. There's way too much self-hate and self-loathing in our country and it's a direct result of our form of capitalism treating humans as resources to be exploited for personal profit.

Nobody is saying to stop any creditable investigations. There just hasn’t been a single creditable allegation. Can you show us one that you think should be pursued?

The real issue is that there’s nothing that has been shown yet that has any validity. Nothing.
I just learned that creditable is a legitimate alternative to credible, although I've never heard anyone ever say creditable. I've only ever heard people say credible.

Just listening to one of the talking heads on the teevee, who made a good point that after 9/11, the US govt realized the importance of having a smooth transition of power since we are more vulnerable after a new President takes office.. It struck me that if terrorists or another country wanted to do massive harm to America- since it looks like we wont have any semblance of a transfer- the best time to do it would be sometime between Jan 19-21st.
Keep an eye on Putin making a power play in Europe or the Middle East.

So, one potential side-effect that I'm not sure Republicans who are humoring this sort of thing are thinking about -- if as I expect this goes on for another couple of weeks before all the states certify their elections, and none of the lawsuits and so on works. If Trump keeps playing the stolen election card but still leaves - won't that depress Trump supporters future election participation?

Ie, if Trump and those who surround him, don't come out and publicly say that the election was free and fair, then his supporters will not be likely to participate in future elections. Which might sound good to us, but a sizeable portion of the population who does not believe that elections are fair is very, very bad.

I'm not very concerned that Trump is going to just stay in office by any kind of chicanery. But I don't think he's going to acknowledge that the elections were free and fair, and that's going to be bad long term.

I wonder if this is just a strategy to keep him out of jail, after he’s finally and correctly pushed out. Try to overplay the “stealing” of the election and make him look like a victim. Then if he’s prosecuted it makes him look even more like a victim with bad optics to the world that opposition candidates get sent to jail. So to avoid those optics someone lets him off?

If Democrats were half as evil as Republicans, they would put out a huge Facebook advertisement to skip going to the polls for a massive boat parade. I never knew Republicans loved boats so much.
