Is there a trade deal with China? Is it really a deal or just a pull-back to status quo ante? Is Trump advancing US interests in this well-executed trade battle plan or was this poorly conceived from the start . . . and harmful?

I think the jury's still out, but I haven't seen that the Chinese are offering much in compromise - and it's not even clear if there's going to be an agreement. But it's clear they are working on something and I'm sure Trump will sell it as the greatest trade deal ever. The proof will be in the details.

Found it. Prices of gas is the lowest it's been in 3 years. Yet this kid cannot shake it. It's baked in and there's no critical thought involved. He's repeating a narrow maga talking point that simply isn't based in reality.

Also, if he doesn't want to pay $90 a to fill up his tank, don't drive a big as truck. Get a small fuel efficient or electric car. He's in college playing baseball, what does he need a truck for?

    Compensation...

This is happening because the market knows that Trump economic policy is inflationary.

Meh, this is gonna be an issue for me. I want to sell my house and move to another. Only problem is I got my current place at a much lower rate. If they start climbing again significantly, I'm probably not gonna be able to do anything unless I get a much better paying job.

My brother-in-law drives a big azz truck (his license plate is “BIG A TRK”) because he hauls a three horse trailer. He knows what diesel costs and simply accepts it because he chose to have horses. Staunch Democrat btw. He has an everyday car and uses the truck when he needs to. On a side note, he keeps a spreadsheet and can tell you to the nickel how much money he has spent on horses.

Trump annonces tariffs on China, Mexico, and Canada “on day 1”.

    And yes, that means inflation

These folks just insist on shooting themselves in the foot..and then doing the same to all of us.. because politics has become a stupid football rivalry where everyone is essentially the same but we treat each other like shirte so we can feel special with flags and bumper stickers

This would be disastrous. And it’s just day 1…

To convince himself he has a bigger weewee
The whole pickup truck thing is intriguing to me. My brother-in-law owns one because he hauls horses. Yet how many people just own one as some sort of status symbol?

How many people drive 4wD vehicles and never get off road or drive in ice and snow? Amazing how many jeeps you see in Florida.

I drive a big truck. I haul a trailer. I grew up driving trucks. It’s common in small southern towns. It is the most practical vehicle you can own. However, they don’t pass many gas stations. I get 19 on the hwy without pulling a load and 9 when I’m hauling a trailer. It cost a butt load to fill up a 36 gallon tank. And it’s difficult to impossible to park in a small car lot and forget about most parking garages. Thank god for backup cameras but I still hit more things in reverse than I have ever hit in drive.

Still I can’t explain it other than to say I grew up driving a 64 Chevy three speed on the column and I don’t feel at home driving anything but a truck.

My wife drives a mini cooper. If opposites attract then we are the perfect couple.

it was posted in the other thread that Canadian oil is refined in the US and provides a lot of the gasoline consumed in the entire middle of the country. So because he added Canada to the tariff list and at the same rate as Mexico, we will see higher gas prices.

True - but I think this is one of those things we have to believe it when we see it. Trump can say he’s gonna do that and hope to gain concessions and call it a victory even if it isn’t really meaningful.

Oh, sure. Many people drive SUVs that shouldn’t. It never ceases to amaze me when there is a big snow storm and some guy in an SUV goes blowing by everybody. You just know you will see him off in the median. AWD does not stop sliding on slick surfaces caused by snow and ice. Snow gets packed down, AWD becomes useless.

I think that trucks are useful in rural areas and, obviously, for businesses that need them. Too often they become status symbols like the SUVs.

Back up cameras are great. Mrs. Bird loves the one on her car because her back surgery made it hard to turn enough to look.

Keystone XL will ship tar sands “oil” to be processed on the gulf. It will then be sent overseas.

I don’t think a pickup is impractical at all, depending on what you do. Maybe someone hauls a lot of material, pulls a trailer, landscaping, camping, etc. I’ve owned many.

But yeah, I also think it’s a weird status symbol too among young guys or dudes who just want to have people stare as they drive down the road. So it’s more “street cred” to have the biggest, loudest, most belligerent coal roller out there so you can watch as people stare.

Often times accompanied by large stickers of colleges people didn’t go to or punisher skulls. It’s uh…neat lol
