Is there a trade deal with China? Is it really a deal or just a pull-back to status quo ante? Is Trump advancing US interests in this well-executed trade battle plan or was this poorly conceived from the start . . . and harmful?

I think the jury's still out, but I haven't seen that the Chinese are offering much in compromise - and it's not even clear if there's going to be an agreement. But it's clear they are working on something and I'm sure Trump will sell it as the greatest trade deal ever. The proof will be in the details.

I don’t think a pickup is impractical at all, depending on what you do. Maybe someone hauls a lot of material, pulls a trailer, landscaping, camping, etc. I’ve owned many.

But yeah, I also think it’s a weird status symbol too among young guys or dudes who just want to have people stare as they drive down the road. So it’s more “street cred” to have the biggest, loudest, most belligerent coal roller out there so you can watch as people stare.

Often times accompanied by large stickers of colleges people didn’t go to or punisher skulls. It’s uh…neat lol

Back the Blue-themed Punisher skulls always make me laugh. Like, clearly these people never read a Punisher comic.

Trump doesn’t have the savvy to negotiate trade deals. His Canada-Mexico-U.S. deal was laughed at in Canada. It did basically nothing different long term than NAFTA.

    Trump Trade War 2.0

This will be in the running for the "Dumbest Thing He Did" Award! He's going to open up a trade war with Mexico and Canada when he is the father of the trade deal with Mexico and Canada (USMCA). :freak7:

I am certain that it will face some heavy competition as time goes by. :lurk:

So, I note that the Dow is up about 395 points.

When and if the tariffs hit I would expect some fairly large drops.

I read that the indexes are up because they have heard (received off the record assurances) that Trump won’t be implementing his full tariff policies. Whether that is speculation or not, I don’t know. Wall Street seems to think cooler heads will prevail.

Maybe but highly unlikely. Trump will run rampant until, if ever, “cooler heads” prevail.

Yeah, not saying I agree with Wall Street, just repeating what I read.

I seem to remember the price of eggs being a big complaint about Biden.

So did we, until the bird flu problems we've been having the past six years or so.
If the US doesn’t take this seriously, the rest of the world will undoubtedly feel the consequences before long.

I can’t shake the feeling that we’re on the brink of a “pandemic 2.0.”

Having studied agronomy with a focus on genetics for three years at university, I’ve seen how crucial it is to act decisively in these situations. In Denmark, we took these threats very seriously during COVID. The mass culling of mink populations was heartbreaking, but it was necessary to control the spread. While I wasn’t a fan of the killings, I was relieved to see mink farming—a practice with appalling animal welfare conditions—come to an end.

But what’s happening in the US is deeply alarming. Continuing to allow the sale of unpasteurized milk, especially now that bird flu has proven capable of crossing over into cows and infecting humans through contaminated milk, is an outright rejection of both science and public safety. When a virus jumps between two species in such a short timeframe, it’s a clear warning: human-to-human transmission isn’t far off.

Combine this with Trump’s withdrawal of the US from the WHO and his decision to appoint a vaccine denier and raw milk advocate to head the Department of Health, and the situation becomes a recipe for disaster. Ignoring science in the face of a looming threat is a gamble with lives, and it’s a gamble the world can’t afford

I don’t think we have an AI thread specifically, or not one that is being used. This is sorta about AI but is more of a pretty good explanation of the way our society is set up currently and why AI is going to cause huge upheavals in our society. Electing Trump is the opposite way we needed to go.
