Why should taxpayers be on the hook to pay for loans to private universities - the schools that are the most ridiculously overpriced?

Or is Warren, and perhaps others, arguing that the loans just be defaulted and never paid back?

I can see changing the rules and allowing school loans to be eligible for discharge in bankruptcy.

Perhaps I could see some sort of loan forgiveness for public institutions (absent some sort of action - we already have loan forgiveness programs in place if the debtor agrees to certain types of jobs). But not taxpayer-funded bailout of loans that went to private institutions.

I haven’t gone and looked, but I do think most of the plans only apply to public schools.

Biden really does seem to have some anger issues. I know security would not allow it, but he could really use a refresher course on why you don't go around poking on people. This guy is worse than the Pope even.

I don't know if I'd call it fixed. They just can't help themselves. They love shiny things. They love drama. They wanted to see these mild mannered nice people fight. It's all about ratings and money.
Sorry, your claims that CNN just likes shiny things and sensationalism doesn't really hold any water after all we've see from CNN this past year.

Do you notice how the Democrats never mention the Universities huge costs and how they are ripping their students off? It's only about forgiving the debt. How about looking at the root problem otherwise we would be back in this same situation in 20 years assuming all the debt was forgiven. They will never talk about how Universities shouldn't be charging as much as they do because they are big Democrat supporters.

You‘re just talking out of your butt here. In this very thread it has been discussed that several democratic candidates have proposals that address the future of college costs. They actually do talk about college costs and public colleges and universities don’t support political candidates.

The proper word is Democratic, btw. You reveal your biases that you like to pretend aren’t there but are painfully obvious to everyone else.

Well, to be fair, I don't watch CNN. I don't have cable.

But can you explain how or why my point doesn't hold water?

Yes, I'm not sure any have been that blunt.

    However...

    The Plan

Buttigieg would spend $500 million to make college affordable for working and middle class families. Public college students from families that earn up to $100,000 would not pay any tuition at either two or four year public colleges. Buttigieg estimates that this figure represents about 80% of those students attending such colleges. The next 10% of families, those earning between $100,000 and$150,000, would have their tuition reduced on a sliding scale.

To keep tuition costs in check, Buttigieg proposes a federal-state partnership: in exchange for receiving federal dollars states would guarantee to invest in their public higher education systems and constrain tuition increases.

Throwing money at the problem doesn't seem like a good way to address the ridiculous cost of college. That's a temporary bandaide. Why won't Congress look at why the costs have went up so much?

Congress has taken recent steps to address the rising costs of college tuition. I would link you but you keep on making assertions that show you’re not doing your homework so I’m not going to do it for you.

The costs went up because we moved to a model where students finance their education. This made it so the cost isn’t even something the customer really thinks about allowing universities to raise prices to create more administrative jobs and spend more on marketing.

At the same time states were able to reduce funding without really changing the number of kids who could “afford” college.

Banks, Universities, and state governments have been abusing this funding model to take from the middle and lower class.

Pete Buttigieg is blowing the dog whistle with "heartland".

The New York Times also had a story the other day about there being racial issues within his campaign. My understanding is that he has distributed questionnaires to uncover the extent to which microagressions are occurring.

You guys have officially jumped the shark. You want to birch about PC and language police, up until the moment you want to become the language police.

When Obama called Ohio the heartland, was he dog whistling too?

You just cannot make this stuff up. 🤣
