The economy IS NOT great. Yes, unemployment is low, but wages are stagnant, the national debt is ridiculous, part of me hopes Trump gets reelected so he can be in office when the roosters come home to roost. Massive inflation is on the horizon.

Nearly half (44%) of american ADULTS (18-65) are struggling to survive in low wage jobs (median wages less than $20K annually)

30 % of them live 150% below the poverty line.

Despite "record unemployment" and "record stock market performance" more than 1 in 10 adults live in poverty, and 1 in 6 children in america live in poverty.

and before you start with the "they are poor cuz they lazy"over 40% of poverty stricken adults work and are employed, 10% are in school to better their chances of employment, nearly 20% are disabled, and another 6% are retired and over 65.

The economy IS NOT GOOD FOR POOR PEOPLE right now.

The gap between the haves and have nots is widening, and the middle class is shrinking.

unlike the President, I am not just making these things up:

I agree with your points, but unfortunately they are way too nuanced for the average voter to understand.. at the risk of sounding ‘elitist’ (because i’m not, i only have a 4 yr degree from a state school)- we live in a Walmart nation.. Most people are only capable of understanding “Economy - Good’ or ‘Economy- Bad’ and there’s not much room beyond that for anything more complex.

And unfortunately, the economy has always been terrible for poor people, in good times and bad... Which is why i think instead of focusing on ‘The Economy’, the Democrats need to go beyond that, since the *perception* has been that the economy has improved under both Obama and Trump, therefore it really isnt impacted lately by who is in the White House.

There's no way he lost 30 million viewers, and I don't think that's what the article is saying. Says ratings down 25% from last year on OTA networks and cable networks not yet factored in.

    I think.

I think what he meant to say was that the viewers watching the SOTU on CNN was down 30 million... That's more like it.. I am sure all the other Networks were up.. lol

Yeah that is weird that he would have lost more than half of the viewers. But I do think the number will be down this year. I think a lot of people are just turned off by all of it right now.

I have watched every SOTU that I remember going back to at least the last one Reagan gave from start to finish.

I turned this one off when I realized he was giving Rush the medal of freedom on the spot.

It wasn’t about politics, I knew what to expect in that regard. He turned the SOTU into a show.

From the article, he lost 9.62 million viewers form last year. The only network number where up by was on Fox News, and that was only by 300,000 viewers. Every other network lost viewers. Not really surprising in the least. I didn't watch this year, but I did last year.

President Trump's address and the Democratic response averaged 33.67 million viewers from 9 to 10:30 p.m. ET on broadcast networks ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC and cable news channels CNN, Fox News and MSNBC. Viewing on PBS, Univision, Telemundo, Fox Business and CNNe raised the total to 37.17 million, according to Nielsen figures. That's down about 21 percent from the total of 46.79 million in 2019.

Boehlert is from Media Matters so expect him to lie, distort and misrepresent as much as possible.

She shouldn’t have been orchestrating drama at the SOTU.

No one should be orchestrating drama at the STOU.

    Don’t you agree?

Come on now, dont you know that it is only okay to orchestrate drama if you are an orange, ex-reality TV star who decides to bestow a prestigious honor on a right-wing, blowhard piece of s*** who just so happens to be living on borrowed time, basically turning the entire freaking State of the Union into a publicity stunt.. . In that scenario, you are in the clear, and can orchestrate as much drama, and pull as many stunts as you like.

You're so right! Trump is the first President that made the State Of The Union all about himself. What a dictator!

I was responding directly to your assertion that Pelosi was being some sort of drama queen, by pointing out that Trump was the absolute definition of a drama queen and attention whore last night.. And now you want to point out that it’s normal behavior to orchestrate drama at the SOTU?? Then why even post the ‘Nancy tearing paper’ tweet in the first place, if you’re just going to come back and tell me that ‘Oh everyone does stuff like that’?

So again what was the reason Obama gave Ellen the same award?

So again what was the reason Obama gave Ellen the same award?

Ellen was honored for her courage to come out and live her life as an openly gay woman in a time where that risked not only her career but caused her to endure threats to her life and personal safety. Since then, she has been part of bringing a class of Americans that routinely endured prejudice and discrimination to a more accepted place in American society - inspiring young gay Americans that they don't have to live in the closet. The fact that is far more commonplace now may make it easy to forget that it was actually a pretty big deal at the time and especially risky for her to do.

I think it's pretty hard to dispute that account and she hasn't really done or said anything meaningful of generally controversial nature that I can think of.

Is there any way to equate that to Rush's career? A man who has made a living, in part, on haranguing the efforts of marginalized classes to achieve more in America? A man who has made numerous comments that are ostensibly racist and misogynist? I agree that he's been wildly successful and demonstrated a certain prowess in accumulating media power and a voice for a particular demographic in America. I think he belongs in the radio Hall-of-Fame to be sure, and perhaps in other accolades. But the Medal of Freedom? What "especially meritorious contribution" has he made?

I think Obama gave it to way too many entertainers and cultural figures who didn't merit such a high honor. I think there is plenty of room to point out that the recipients haven't always met the intent of the honor. But I do think there's a reasonable case to be made for Ellen.
