Maybe the mother and father are already married, used protections during sex, already have 3 kids and can't afford to have another one, and do not believe that a fetus is a person. I'd argue it was founded on freedom from religion, as clearly stated on the first sentence of the 1st Amendment.

The whole anti-abortion thing comes from a passage in the Bible that's not even about abortion - and for the record, this is not my opinion; it has been stated by many theologians/apologists. Jeremiah 1:5 says - allegedly Yahweh speaking - “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” So, the reasoning goes something like, your soul exists before egg and sperm meet, and therefore you are even before conception, and you must be born to proselytize. Abortion kills that cycle. It also prevents the person from being born and being baptized, which means your soul will not return to heaven because, you know, as soon as that egg and sperm meet, you are a wretched sinner, and you must be submerged in water (or water poured on your forehead if you are Catholic) for you to be "born again", you know, a clean birth, without the horrible sex/pregnancy part.

Of note, Jeremiah is a book in the Old Testament, the one Christians distance themselves from when anyone mentions the genocide, child abuse, condoning of slavery, the treatment of women, etc., in the Old Testament.

Come to think of it, why aren't churches baptizing zygotes and fetuses before abortions? Their souls will go straight to heaven, to rejoice forever with God in paradise. Or forget abortions; it should be done as soon as a woman is declared medically pregnant, just in case of a miscarriage, considering how frequent they actually are.

Knowing now how relatively common miscarriages are, and that in many occasions the woman doesn't even know she was pregnant, you have to feel sorry for all of the millions (if not billions) of souls who have been miscarried throughout the ages without anyone knowing, and gone straight to limbo for eternity.

I like that they use that one, and not the verse that deals with the death of a unborn child. It seems to be a much better fit. That's Exodus 21:22-25 "When, in the course of a brawl, a man knocks against a pregnant woman so that she has a miscarriage but suffers no further injury, then the offender must pay whatever fine the woman's husband demands after assessment. But where injury ensues, you are to give life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, bruise for bruise, wound for wound."

This is the old testament. This enlightened document is treating the unborn child essentially as property.

That's not the left's first go to at all. The left's (alt-left, whatever that is) go to is to provide comprehensive sex education in school, to provide contraception and family planning free of cost to women and men, to provide universal health care and open pathways for adoption, and to provide child care to families. All of which have been proven to reduce unwanted pregnancies and reduce the need for abortion. But the right wing doesn't want to join the left in doing any of that.

Too bad the right wings first and only go to is to demonize women and force their religious beliefs on others.

Also, as a Catholic you should know that getting clipped or tied is against your religious doctrine and is a mortal sin. Your only recourse for avoiding pregnancy as a Catholic is Natural Family Planning.

That's a great first step. We should also make all forms of birth control free and easily accessible, including Plan B. While we are at it, comprehensive, mandatory, and age-appropriate health and sex-ed classes should be taught in every public school from middle school through senior year. That should drastically decrease unwanted pregnancies. Are you on board?

I have a second cousin who has gone through pregnancy and given birth.

He changed his name, but before he changed his name, his name was Cathy.

So if you listened to him tell his story, the story you would hear is pretty much the usual story about that.

It's usually kind of gross, and when I heard his story it was as usually gross as is usual.
