There are some Christian churches that are hurtling themselves back in time. The SBC just voted to expel all churches who have woman pastors because they believe that women must never be in a position considered to have any authority over men. Some of them say that should be the case in society at large. No woman should have a job where she has any authority over any man. This isn’t a fringe part of the Christian religion. Women biblical scholars were literally told to go home and have babies.

This at a time where the SBC is having sexual abuse scandal after scandal, and struggling to hold the abusers accountable. There is a strong tide of this type of radicalism taking hold in some very large sections of Christianity in this country and it’s very concerning. I see the similarities between radical Muslims and radical Christians.

Eh, the SBC isn't hurtling back in time. They've always been stuck in the past. Sheet like this is typical for them.

Well, some were evolving as evidenced by the number of churches who had women pastors and were summarily expelled. I guess that’s what I meant by going backwards.

True dat. I was thinking more SBC leadership. But look at the vote totals. 80+%. Those votes are church leaders. Sure seems like not many SBC churches welcome the idea of women pastors.

This thread is the best fit I could find for this. Sharing it because it made me chuckle:

I was raised Southern Baptist. They sicken me but I give them credit for actually making an attempt to follow one of the inconvenient rules.

    One Timothy 2:12

12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

There's a lot of other inconvenient rules that they should be following as well. The cherry picking is one of the things that made me question the whole thing.

Good old Paul, pissing and moaning. Of course about 50% of the letters attributed to Paul weren’t written by him which is irrelevant to the misogyny.

Reading that without context is dangerous to the lives of women.

Evidently Muse and Rogan are harassing a prominent doctor and scientist because he (so far) won’t agree to debate RFK, Jr. on Rogan’s podcast. They’re not serious people and aren’t interested in the truth, only entertainment. When one has a moral duty to tell the truth it’s hard to compete with someone who is free to say anything regardless of truth. I don‘t think Hotez should debate, for same reason you don’t fight with a pig. The pig is already covered in mud and likes it, but will drag you down into the mud as well. I am sure I really messed up the saying, lol.

The only correction I would make for Dr. Marino is not that Joe Rogan isn’t smart. It is that Joe Rogan is stupid.

That's a really unfair comparison. Pigs are a lot more pleasant than Muse and Rogan.

I agree with you. Muse, Rogan and their ilk never challenge someone to a debate on neutral ground with a neutral moderator. They know how foolish they'd look if they did that. So they challenge people to debate them on their turf and by their rules.

They do that to setup two things. If the person does debate them on their terms, they use their control over the discussion to play "gotcha" the whole time. If the person declines their offer, they crow about how it proves the person knows that "I'm right and they're wrong."

I'd like to see people counter The Muse's and Rogan's of the world offers by offering to debate them on neutral ground with a neutral moderator. Most of them would refuse, because they know how the BS they spew would collapse like a house of cards under those conditions.

He admits he’s stupid, but IMO that’s just a ploy to avoid lawsuits. He acts like he thinks he’s smart.
If someone wants to get serious insight into who and how Joe Rogan is, then watch every episode of NewsRadio focusing on the character Joe who is played by Joe Rogan. He, the cast, and some of the writers acknowledged at the time that he was being himself and not actually playing another character.

If you watch the show knowing that he was being himself and seeing what he's doing now, it's prophetic and obvious that Joe Rogan was going to end up doing exactly what he's doing.

Gonna be honest, the main thing keeping me from rewatching the show is that Rogan was terrible on it.

I can appreciate that. I laughed at him back then because he's such an overcompensating twit. I re-watched it again last year and laughed even harder at him. The other characters were always talking down to his character, literally and figuratively, and he's clueless about it.
