What really annoys me about the Republicans, is that they love to complain and vote against all of the things the Democrats try to pass. However, they hardly do anything to make it better. When they had the Senate, House and Trump was the President, they couldn’t even come up with decent solution to “fix” healthcare. And that’s after campaigning about it for 12 months! Embarrassing!

That's the thing that really kills me, they scream "WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH!!!" every time and when they are given the chance to do so, to no one's surprise they vote NO.

New York State can’t prohibit people from carrying guns at summer camps because — get this — there weren’t any similar restrictions in place at the time the Constitution was written.
Of course, there weren’t any summer camps back then, either.
But such is the blinkered, history-focused approach to gun regulation imposed by the Supreme Court’s conservative majority earlier this year and applied last week by a federal judge to block the state’s new gun law.
Also, New York can’t prohibit guns in subways, train stations or airline terminals. Nor at concerts or sports stadiums, homeless and domestic violence shelters, addiction treatment facilities, libraries, playgrounds or zoos.
Nursery schools and other educational institutions can be deemed gun-free zones — but not day-care centers or other licensed child-care programs. It’s your constitutional right to pack a pistol in crowded Times Square.
Oh, and New York can’t require those applying for concealed carry permits to provide lists of their social media accounts for the previous three years because, said U.S. District Judge Glenn Suddaby, “an insufficient number of historical analogues exists.”
This is originalism as parody…….
But analogous enough is in the eye of the beholder, and many of those beholding are named by Republican presidents.
In the end, how history applies will be up to the justices — and their track record here is distinctly unimpressive:

At least half a dozen sheriffs in New York’s largely conservative upstate region are refusing to enforce a recently passed concealed carry law, the latest blow after both the US Supreme Court and a federal court struck down key pieces of anti-gun violence legislation in the Empire State.
The concealed carry law, passed in July after the high court shredded a century-old New York gun law in June, prevents people from carrying concealed weapons in “sensitive” areas like religious centres, health facilities, schools, subways and stadiums.
Sheriffs in counties across the state have decided to make enforcing the law a low priority, burying violations at the bottom of their list, or are refusing to take action at all against violations, according to an investigation from The New York Times.
“The people who are doing this, a lot of them are New York City legislators and they don’t have a clue,” Madison County sheriff Todd Hood told the paper, adding that “firearms are what made our country great”.
In July, the New York State Sheriffs’ Association called the law a “thoughtless, reactionary action” which would “restrain and punish law-abiding citizens”.
It’s the latest blow for gun control advocates in New York, who have sought to impose new restrictions on firearms after a white supremacist mass shooting in Buffalo killed 10 people in May.
Over the summer, the US Supreme Court struck down New York’s longstanding concealed carry law, which gave officials considerable discretion over awarding concealed carry permits in the state – permits that are often hard to come by.
Writing for the high court’s conservative majority, Justice Clarence Thomas argued, “The government must demonstrate that the regulation is consistent with this nation’s historical tradition of firearm regulation,” a standard legal scholars say is a substantial increase in the bar needed to legally justify new gun regulations. Previously, lower courts only held that a state must show an important government interest.
After the decision, observers predicted challenges to gun rules across the country, and they came swiftly.
In New York, after the state passed its new concealed carry law in response to the high court ruling, a man seeking to carry his gun in church challenged the new state legislation, arguing his Second and 14th Amendment rights were being violated.................

An off-duty police officer was among those killed by the suspect, who police only described as a white, juvenile male. He was arrested around 9:37 p.m., authorities said. His identity and age weren't released.
The gunfire broke out around 5 p.m. along the Neuse River Greenway in a residential area northeast of downtown, Raleigh Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin said. Officers from numerous law enforcement agencies swarmed the area, closing roads and warning residents to stay inside while they searched for the shooter.
Among those slain was an off-duty police officer, authorities said. Two other people, including another police officer, were taken to hospitals. The officer was later released, but the other survivor remained in critical condition.
"Tonight terror has reached our doorstep. The nightmare of every community has come to Raleigh. This is a senseless horrific and infuriating act of violence that has been committed," Gov. Roy Cooper told reporters."

But some Democrats might finally be figuring things out. At a debate of Florida Senate contenders on Tuesday, Rep. Val Demings (D) blasted Sen. Marco Rubio (R) for backtracking on his prior support for raising the age cutoff for buying military-style rifles, saying, “How long will you watch people being gunned down in first grade, fourth grade, high school, college, church, synagogue, a grocery store, a movie theater, a mall and a nightclub — and do nothing?”
More pointedly, Georgia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams directly linked Republican Gov. Brian Kemp’s gun policies to the recent increase in crime in their Monday debate.
After Kemp tossed the expected “defund the police” attack at Abrams, she responded that Kemp “has weakened gun laws in this state, flooded our streets with guns by letting dangerous people get access to these weapons.”
Naturally, Kemp dismisses the idea that more guns on the street could have any effect on crime. He insisted that people are out buying guns “because the criminals are the only ones that do have the guns.”
Which is a rather odd thing to claim, given the reality of Georgia gun laws. Before Kemp was elected four years ago the state had some of the loosest laws in the country, and Kemp has made them looser still.
Most notably, earlier this year he signed a law providing for permitless concealed carry, meaning anyone can carry a gun in public without any license or training.
Yet to watch the debate about crime you would think crime can only be explained by liberal policies imposed from somewhere or other, even in the most Republican places.
Jen Jordan, the Democratic nominee for attorney general in Georgia, is also facing such attacks. In a debate Tuesday, incumbent Republican Christopher M. Carr insisted crime had risen in her state senate district.
When Jordan noted that crime had gone up all across Georgia, a state run from top to bottom by Republicans, Carr scoffed, “The people of Georgia find it humorous to hear a Democrat blame a Republican for crime,” as though that was self-evidently ridiculous; crime can only be Democrats’ fault, even when Republicans are in charge…….

The "Democrat-run cities" argument to defend against red state violence is such a weak argument.
Democrats run cities in both red and blue states. It's not a factor in the discussion. If it were, then Democratic states would have more gun violence because there are more Democrat-run areas in Democrat states.

Not to mention the idiocy of Kemp’s “only criminals have guns”. We have more guns than people in this country. People need to realize that people are people - some more prone to breaking the law than others, but in the right circumstance almost anyone will commit a crime.
Flooding this society with guns inevitably leads to more crime. It just does. Guns embolden people to commit crimes they would not commit otherwise, IMO. The availability of guns will lead to more crimes of opportunity, more crimes of passion, it’s just common sense.

With people running away, officers moved in, service weapons drawn. They put the 26-year-old in handcuffs and confiscated his gun. Tussey was later charged with terroristic threatening, wanton endangerment and disorderly conduct, prosecutors said, and could face up to 20 years in prison.
His lawyer says he “was engaged in perfectly legal behavior” in the incident last year, raising a relatively new legal argument in the United States that now stands before the courts to settle.
That’s because Kentucky made it legal in 2019 to carry a gun in public without a permit, joining what is now a majority of states with similar laws.
Many celebrate the end of the bureaucracy erected around what they consider every American’s constitutional right to carry any firearm they want.
But permitless carry laws have created a dilemma for officers working the streets: They now have to decide, sometimes in seconds, if someone with the right to carry a gun is a danger.
